Public Service DG tells civil servants to ‘be more cautious' after Education Ministry's flag gaffe
Public Service director-general Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz said the Jalur Gemilang is a symbol of national pride that should be proudly hoisted with care.
'It is as if this matter is continuing... before this was a newspaper, now the Ministry of Education (MoE).
'So, my advice to civil servants is that we should be more cautious of matters (that) are sensitive to our country, such as the flag or anything that touches on the 3R (race, religion and the royal institution)... I hope such incidents do not recur,' he said.
He told reporters this after the launch of the Public Service Department (PSD) Madani Adopted Village and Madani Adopted School and Madani Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations with the residents of Kampung Seri Menanti here today.
Also present were the chairperson of the PSD branch of the Wives of Civil Servants and Women Civil Servants Association (Puspanita), Puan Sri Dr Azlifah Bahari and Negeri Sembilan State Secretary Datuk Mohd Zafir Ibrahim.
On Thursday (April 24), Chief Secretary to the Government (KSN) Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said that appropriate action would be taken over the error in the display of the Jalur Gemilang in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) Examination Results Analysis Report once the full report on the matter is received.
Shamsul Azri added that MoE secretary-general Datuk Dr Aminuddin Hassim had been instructed to prepare a comprehensive report on the incident.
In another development, Wan Ahmad Dahlan said the decision regarding the implementation of weekly rest days (HRM) for firefighters would be finalised after holding engagement sessions with the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) and the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM).
'The PSD has just received this proposal from KPKT and we will first identify what can be done to assist with their application. If the application has a solid and clear basis, there is no reason not to approve it,' he said.
Wan Ahmad Dahlan also urged all parties to be patient as matters involving new policies need comprehensive scrutiny before being implemented. — Bernama

The Ministry of Economy (MOE) said that using the data from Padu enabled the government to identify target groups for intervention programmes, including subsidy distribution. 'In principle, the government has proposed to change the method of identifying target groups from the B40, M40, and T20 household income categories to using net disposable income (NDI). 'This measures household income based on the difference between disposable income and the Basic Expenditure of Decent Living (PAKW), which refers to the total monthly expenses required by a household or individual to achieve a decent standard of living,' the ministry posted on the Parliament's website. MOE was responding to a question from Kamal Ashaari (PN-Kuala Krau) regarding the effectiveness of the Padu system in assisting with the fair and accurate distribution of subsidies. It said that sharing Padu data can improve policy planning and the implementation of programmes or projects while optimising the use of government resources. Merdeka Jalur Gemilang Convoy 2025 to cover 2,500km across Sabah

Sabah Information Director Jainisah Mohd Noor stated that the launch of KMJG 2025, organized by the Sabah Department of Information (JAPEN), will be officiated by the Sabah Chief Minister. The convoy aims to engage communities directly in this year's National Day and Sabah Day celebrations. 'The KMJG 2025 launch will take place on Friday, August 1 2, starting at 7:30am at the Kota Kinabalu Community Hall. Twenty vehicles and 60 participants from various departments and strategic partner agencies will join the convoy,' she said after an interview session for the 'Kami Bah Ini' (KBI) program at RTM TV Studio on Monday. 'This year's convoy emphasizes the special theme 'Malaysia MADANI: Caring for the People,' with program content focused on serving communities through direct agency services, community activities, skills workshops, and strategic multi-stakeholder involvement. KMJG 2025 features engaging activities such as the People's Feast, MADANI Spirit, Info Busking, National Day Mural Painting, Wayang Pacak (street screenings), and skills workshops – all highlighting inclusivity and public participation,' she added. Jainisah also announced that convoy participants will continue the '1 House 1 Jalur Gemilang' (1 House 1 Malaysian Flag) initiative, encouraging all citizens to fly the national flag at homes, offices, government buildings, private vehicles, and government premises. The initiative targets seven key clusters: education, higher education, health, security, community, industry, and government agencies.
