Survey of IIT-B seniors reveals many prefer the job market over further studies
The survey was completed by 282 students, a subset of the 2,400 graduating student population. Of these, 183 said that they had used AI tools and online learning platforms to take additional courses beyond their coursework.
This is the first year that AI related questions have featured in the survey. One of the chief editors of Insight, Shivam Agarwal, said, 'The use of ChatGPT and AI has increased immensely in the last year.' However, he added that the survey had no other purpose than to capture the thoughts of graduating students.
As per the results of the survey, among the respondents, very few students are choosing to go for their higher studies. Only 35 students plan to pursue a master's degree or a PhD, and 5 plan to do a masters in business administration. The remaining students intend to start working immediately.
From 278 students who responded to a question about the importance of attending classes, 128 said that attending classes was important if 'the professor and the course are interesting'. 16 students felt that they did not need to attend classes since there was enough material available online.
Regarding how well IIT-B had prepared students for life after college, 151 students claimed that IIT-B has prepared them well, 'ready to rock', and 33 said that they feel exceptionally well prepared, 'master of the universe level'.
In questions pertaining to their social lifestyles, 27% of respondents said that they had used dating apps for fun.

2018 Bhima Koregaon violence: Inquiry commission gets 3-month extension
The Maharashtra government has given a fresh three-month extension to the inquiry commission probing the violence that took place on January 1, 2018 at Koregaon Bhima village in Pune district. The earlier extension granted to the Koregaon Bhima Inquiry Commission was till July 31. The comission has now been given extension till October 31 to submit its report, officials said. Violence had broken out near the Koregaon Bhima war memorial in Pune district on January 1, 2018, a day after the Elgar Parishad conclave was held in Pune. Dalits visit the memorial in large numbers as it commemorates the victory of British forces, which included Dalit soldiers, over the army of the Brahmin Peshwa rulers of Pune in 1818. The two-member commission, comprising retired chief justice of Calcutta High Court J N Patel and former Maharashtra chief secretary Sumit Mullick, is probing the circumstances that triggered the riots.

Koregaon Bhima violence: Sharad Pawar seeks six weeks time to reply on Ambedkar's application
Senior politician and NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar recently sought six weeks from the Koregaon Bhima Commission of Inquiry for replying to an application filed by Dalit leader Prakash Ambedkar in connection with a letter that he had given to former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray in January 2020. In his application before the commission filed in February this year, Ambedkar claimed that on January 24, 2020, Sharad Pawar had given a letter to then Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray stating that the violence that broke out in Koregaon Bhima was a conspiracy hatched by the previous government under the leadership of Devendra Fadnavis. Along with his application, Ambedkar had attached a news report, which stated that Pawar's letter to Uddhav Thackeray demanded the formation of a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the Koregaon-Bhima violence and accused the Fadnavis government of protecting the conspirators. Ambedkar had requested the commission to pass an order asking Pawar to submit a copy of this letter that he had given to Uddhav Thackeray, along with related documents. Ambedkar had also requested the commission that if required, Pawar should be called again to depose as a witness. On April 23 this year, advocate Kiran Kadam, on behalf of Ambedkar, filed an application at the Commission, with a request to issue a notice to Pawar for producing the documents related to the letter. The commission had then twice sent a letter to Pawar, requesting him to submit the 'documents in question', either personally or through his attorney. When contacted, V V Palnitkar, commission's secretary, confirmed that on July 24, Pawar had through his lawyer sought six weeks time to file his reply in this matter. Special Public Prosecutor Shishir Hiray had opposed Ambedkar's application to call Pawar again for deposing as a witness. Hiray had claimed this was an attempt (by Ambedkar) to create 'sensationalisation' for political purposes and delay the commission's work. Hiray stated that Sharad Pawar had deposed before the Commission in Mumbai on May 5, 2022, and was examined by different lawyers. Hiray also said that Pawar had himself never mentioned about a letter that was sent to Uddhav Thackeray — as claimed by Ambedkar — before the commission. Meanwhile, the state government has granted yet another extension to the Commission till October 31 this year. An order in this regard was passed by Chetan Nikam, deputy secretary, state home department, on July 30. This is the 19th extension given to the two member commission led by retired high court justice J N Patel. The commission was formed for probing the Koregaon Bhima violence of January 1, 2018, in which one person died and several others were injured. The Commission's tenure had to be repeatedly extended to allow it to complete its work. The commission would now conduct its hearings in Pune around August 25. Man gets life term for raping Dalit woman, sharing obscene photos
Agra: A 38-year-old man was sentenced to life imprisonment for raping a Dalit woman and circulating her obscene photos to her relatives. The SC/ST court in Agra, presided over by Judge Pushkar Upadhyay, also imposed a fine of ₹90,000 on the convict. Additional district govt counsel (ADGC) Hemant Dixit said on Saturday that the 30-year-old woman's mother, a farmer, had filed a police complaint against the accused in March 2022. "My daughter and the man were friends and used to speak regularly. After her engagement, we asked her to stop talking to him. But around Jan 2021, he convinced her to meet him one last time. During that meeting, he took obscene photos of her and forcefully did wrong things. My daughter returned home and told me everything. Out of shame, we didn't report it and got her married," the mother told the court during the trial. She added, "After the wedding, the man began sending my daughter's obscene photos to our relatives, including to the mobile phone of my brother-in-law's son-in-law. The pictures were sent to many relatives."
