IN PICTURES: Albany marks WA Day long weekend with free family festival at WA Museum of the Great Southern
A colourful cast of diverse community characters at the museum provided free, fun-filled entertainment for visitors of all ages.
The Brig Amity was free to board all day, with volunteers on board to tell the tales of the ship to visitors, and the museum's discovery centre also opened free of charge.
Stalls covered the precinct with lawn games, face painting, Menang toolmaking, messy play for children, environmental education, and arts and crafts throughout the day.
Albany volunteer firefighters brought out all the gear, inviting visitors to climb up into the fire engine and don a yellow fire jacket and helmet.
Vintage cars, similar to those seen racing around Albany's town centre on Sunday in the iconic Albany Classic motorsport event, were lined up for visitors to admire.
Live performances provided a soundtrack to the day's fun, with the Mt Lockyer Primary School Choir and the Bird on a Wire Choir taking to the stage, as well as a host of local acts.

Karratha set for WA Day finale celebration with live entertainment, sideshow alley and dazzling drone show
Karratha is set to mark the conclusion of Western Australia's month-long WA Day celebrations with a large-scale community event at Bulgarra Oval on Sunday, June 22. From 4pm-8.30pm, the free event will feature live music, rides, food trucks, and a drone light show, transforming the oval into a vibrant celebration. The entertainment line-up includes local artists James Wilson, and Gemma Luxton and The Highway Boys – a country-rock band known for their crowd-pleasing mix of tunes. Sideshow alley will provide a variety of attractions for all ages, including family-friendly rides such as the Dreamland Tracked Train and Tropical Island Combo and high-adrenaline options like the Zipper. A range of food vendors will also be on-site, offering diverse dining options throughout the event. The evening will conclude with a drone show lighting up the night sky in a visual tribute to the people and culture of Western Australia. The event is presented by Rio Tinto and Woodside, with support from the State Government and Lotterywest, as part of the WA Day Festival – a Statewide program celebrating Western Australia's heritage, diversity and community spirit.

Thousands attend fun-filled Pinjarra festival
More than 20,000 people visited Pinjarra during the WA Day long weekend to join in the festivities at the 2025 Pinjarra Festival. Held in the Edenvale Heritage Precinct, the festival featured market stalls, free kids' activities, workshops, amusements, vintage cars and machinery displays, arts displays, and a plethora of food and drink options. The festival had lots of entertainment options for both children and adults. Credit: Supplied Musical acts Mel and the Misfits, Michael Ward Music, Midnight Rose, Applejack and Moonshine, and Alex Wayne Music all performed across the weekend alongside roving entertainment. 'Each year the Pinjarra Festival gets bigger and better,' he said. The festival started in 1999 and has grown each year since.
