Five arrests after police hit by stones and eggs in protest at house in Fife

Yahoo6 hours ago
FIVE people were arrested after a protest involving about 100 people at a house in Fife where police officers were pelted with eggs.
A crowd of between 80 and 100 people gathered outside a property on Pirnie Street, Methilhill, for a protest at about 4.40pm on Sunday, according to Police Scotland.
The crowd became abusive towards police, throwing eggs and stones, leading to public order officers joining uniformed police.
The Courier has reported that the group was protesting over the presence of Buckhaven, Methil and Wemyss Villages Labour councillor David Graham, 43, who was found guilty of engaging in sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl last month.
It was the second protest in the space of 48 hours following a previous demonstration on Friday night.
Police Scotland warned that anyone 'taking part in disorder, or inciting or encouraging others' would be identified and potentially prosecuted.

The force said it was 'concerning' that there were a 'number of children present' and warned that 'strong feelings' were 'no excuse for violence'.
The gathering was described as a protest and disturbance, and no-one required hospital treatment.
Video footage on social media showed members of the public remonstrating with officers.
A 15-year-old girl and a 36-year-old woman and have been charged in connection with vandalising property.
Two men, aged 22 and 47, were arrested and charged in connection with disorder while a 38-year-old man was also arrested and charged in connection with assault and disorder.
The men were all released on an undertaking to appear at court at a later date.
Chief Superintendent Derek McEwan said: 'Violence towards officers while carrying out their duties will not be tolerated and the behaviour they faced last night was unacceptable. Police officers are also members of the community and it is fortunate someone was not seriously injured.
'We understand there are strong feelings in the local area but that is no excuse for violence or disorder. We are particularly concerned with the number of children present last night.
'Officers continue to carry out inquiries, including reviewing video footage of the event to identify those who were involved.
'There was a protest at the same property on Friday August 1 2025 and officers are also carrying out inquiries in relation to this incident.
'My message is that anyone taking part in disorder, or inciting or encouraging others to be involved, should expect to be identified and charged accordingly.'

Molly Mersereau, a teacher employed by the Santa Rosa County School District, was arrested on July 29 and charged with multiple felony offenses, including engagement in a romantic relationship with a student by a school authority, the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office said in a Facebook post. Mersereau is also facing charges of criminal solicitation, using a two-way communication device to facilitate a felony, and a misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, per the post. Online inmate records show Mersereau was released from jail custody on July 30 after posting a combined $41,000 bail. It's unclear if she has entered a plea or retained an attorney to speak on her behalf. "The Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office takes all allegations involving the welfare of minors and the integrity of public trust seriously," the post reads. According to an arrest report obtained by the Pensacola News Journal, Mersereau had been the subject of an internal investigation during the 2024-2025 school year after administration at Gulf Breeze High School became aware she had been texting a student and giving them rides in her personal vehicle — which was against school policy. Mersereau's arrest came after the teacher's friend told Gulf Breeze police that Mersereau allegedly admitted to "having sex" with a student, the outlet reported, citing the arrest report. The student claimed to investigators with the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office that they did not have a sexual relationship with Mersereau. During a search of Mersereau's home, investigators found purported love notes similar to ones they found in the alleged victim's home, per the report. The student's phone allegedly contained "text messages and group notes shared or exchanged by Molly and (the student) which were of an intimate nature, text messages exhibiting grooming speech from Molly directed toward (the student), photographs of Molly and (the student) on outings outside of the school," and more, the News Journal reported, citing the report.
