Gone Girl star Rosamund Pike has said her return to the stage after more than a decade is 'frightening'.
The Saltburn actress, 46, is to make her National Theatre debut this year in the play Inter Alia – an examination of modern masculinity and motherhood from the mind of Prima Facie writer Suzie Miller.
Pike was last seen on stage in Henrik Ibsen's Hedda Gabler at the Theatre Royal Bath in 2010 and has also been in productions of Madame De Sade, Gaslight, Summer And Smoke, and Hitchcock Blonde.
The perfect line-up to send us into the weekend! 🫶
A huge thanks to tonight's guests, Rosamund Pike, Kris Marshall, Zahra Ahmadi and Olivia Dean ✨

'All through my 20s I was on stage a lot and it felt sort of natural and right, and now it's frightening,' she told BBC's The One Show.
'I'm playing a judge in a play by Suzie Miller, who wrote Prima Facie. It's a very exciting project.
'It's also about a mother raising a son, and I have two sons, so that's very close to my heart.
'And it's really about the juggle of life, and when you've given your life over to the law, is the law enough when things start to get rough? So it's challenging and exciting.'
In the play the British actress plays High Court judge Jessica Parks, who has 'to reckon her professional life and role as wife, mother, friend and feminist'.
It is directed by Justin Martin, who also worked on Olivier Award-winning Prima Facie, about a criminal defence lawyer who is sexually assaulted.
The Golden Globe-winning actress also appeared on the show to speak about series three of epic fantasy show The Wheel Of Time.
She said: 'We're very proud of it. We're a very close cast. We've weathered a lot together, and this is definitely our most elaborate and complex (series).
'And I think it's the offering we're most proud of. It's the most ambitious, and it's beautiful.'
National Theatre Live is set to broadcast Inter Alia live to cinemas around the UK on September 4 2025.
The play is being staged between July 10 and September 13 2025 at the Lyttelton Theatre on the South Bank.

It's Feminism vs. a Mother's Instinct on a London Stage

By day, Jessica Parks is a formidable judge in a London court, handing down sentences to drug-dealers, sex offenders and domestic abusers. By night, she's a floundering parent to a teenage son who is being bullied at school. When he is accused of raping a female classmate, Jessica's maternal instincts butt up against her feminist politics. She has always argued that victims must be believed, but her son protests his innocence, and she feels duty bound to stand by him. That's the gist of 'Inter Alia,' written by Suzie Miller and directed by Justin Martin, a successor to the pair's 2023 Olivier and Tony Award-winning 'Prima Facie.' In that play, a defense attorney known for her uncompromising cross-examinations of rape victims is herself subjected to a sexual assault. This follow-up, which runs at the National Theater in London through Sept. 13, essentially inverts the plotline: Whereas in 'Prima Facie' the criminal justice system was on trial, in 'Inter Alia,' the family unit is in the dock. Rosamund Pike, of 'Saltburn' fame, is vibrantly engaging as the embattled heroine, and her commanding stage presence carries an otherwise pedestrian production. Jessica is indefatigably energetic, whether declaiming from atop a table or belting out karaoke numbers. And she's sassy: Regaling us about a conversation with her lawyer husband, Michael, as she irons her son's shirt, she archly points the iron upward and emits a puff of steam when she speaks his parts to indicate her disdain. We are invited to note the contrast between her strong, capable persona and the vulnerable human being underneath it; on several occasions, Jessica remarks on the need to modulate between her 'stern voice' and a softer register — all life is a performance, whether in the courtroom or the living room. Jamie Glover plays Michael with a perfunctory insouciance that befits the role: He is mildly envious of his wife's superior professional status, while she resents him for abdicating the 'emotional lifting' of parenthood. Jasper Talbot as the couple's son, Harry, looks a bit older than the character he's playing, but makes up for it with a sulky bearing and listless, waddling gait. Both these male roles, as written, are somewhat wooden — they are essentially props in what feels, for large swaths, like a one-woman show. Want all of The Times? Subscribe.

Emily Ratajkowski flaunts summer body during poolside fashion moment

Emily Ratajkowski spent the weekend soaking up the summer sun. The 34-year-old model gave fans a glimpse into her time by the pool. Ratajkowski posed in a plunging black swimsuit from her own line while vacationing near the Adriatic Sea. Ratajkowski referenced her vacation with her caption, writing: "adriaticcc." She wore her hair down as she gave the camera a pout for the photos. Fans were quick to flood the comment section of her post with fire and heart emojis. "How do I send in my marriage application?" one user asked. Another fan commented, "Wow girl youre awesomely gorgeous and sexy but I guess you already. Know that." "I have to say you're my all-time favorite so beautiful," one fan wrote. Ratajkowski launched her own swimwear line, Inamorata, in 2017. At the time, the model confirmed her project was "self-funded." "I have basically a consultant and an assistant and then it's all me," the former actress told Vogue. "It's been really, really fun. I've been doing different things with different people, but to have complete control is really special and exciting." Ratajkowski took on the endeavor after turning her back on Hollywood. She landed her first big role in 2014 as Ben Affleck's mistress in the psychological thriller film "Gone Girl." Following the role, Ratajkowski set out to prove she was a "serious actress with longevity." "But I didn't feel like, 'Oh, I'm an artist performing and this is my outlet.' I felt like a piece of meat who people were judging, saying, 'Does she have anything else other than her [breasts]?'" Ratajkowski previously told the Los Angeles Times. After starring in films such as "We Are Your Friends," "I Feel Pretty" and "Lying and Stealing," she chose to turn her back on Hollywood. Ratajkowski grew tired of making herself "digestible to powerful men in Hollywood" and fired her agent, manager and commercial rep in early 2020. "I didn't trust them," the model told the outlet. "I was like, 'I can handle receiving phone calls. I'm gonna make these decisions. None of you have my best interest at heart. And you all hate women.'"

Ben Affleck And Gwyneth Paltrow Relationship Details In New Book

This post contains brief discussions of alcohol addiction. Thinking about it today, Ben Affleck and Gwyneth Paltrow might seem like an oddly matched couple, but in the '90s, they were pretty loved up. In late 1997, a few months after her split from Brad Pitt, Gwyneth met a guy named Ben at a Miramax party. Ben was on the rise at the time, preparing to release Good Will Hunting, and he and Gwyneth hit it off. The pair dated on and off for three years before splitting in 2000. If there's one thing we know about Gwyneth, it's that she's pretty good at maintaining good relationships with her exes, which seems to be the case with her and Ben. In 2015, she told Howard Stern that he's 'super intelligent and really, really talented,' but that their relationship didn't work out because 'he wasn't in a good place in his life to have a girlfriend.' Now, thanks to some newly released excerpts from a forthcoming biography all about Gwyneth's life and career, we have some new insight into the struggles that these two faced during their romance. In the new book, Gwyneth: The Biography, author Amy Odell writes that though Gwyneth and Ben were a good intellectual match, the Gone Girl star had 'demons.' 'Affleck was struggling with alcoholism and a gambling habit around the time he met Gwyneth,' she alleges. 'Her friends had reservations about him because he didn't always reciprocate her affection. He at times seemed more interested in playing video games with the guys at his house than being with Gwyneth.' Despite this, Gwyneth and Ben apparently had great sexual chemistry, and she 'spoke openly about how much she enjoyed their sex life.' 'She told [her friend makeup artist Kevyn] Aucoin one day that she loved when Affleck [engaged in a certain sex act],' Odell writes in the book. This kinda tracks, given that Gwyneth said on the Call Her Daddy podcast in 2023 that Ben was 'technically excellent' in bed… However, no amount of physical chemistry could outweigh 'his self-destructive impulses,' the book suggests, 'which may have even included cheating on her.' They split in 1998, shortly after the opening of their movie, Shakespeare in Love, which won Gwyneth an Oscar for Best Actress in 1999. Ben and Gwyneth did get back together for a while, although the relationship was apparently strained in October 2000 when 'Affleck's addiction issues resurfaced,' causing them to split for good. 'While he had been turning to alcohol, she was practicing Ashtanga yoga six times a week, meditating daily, and watching her diet,' Odell writes. Ben has talked openly about his past struggles with alcohol misuse, and first went to rehab for alcoholism in 2001. He sought treatment for alcohol addiction on subsequent occasions in 2017 and 2018, and is now happily sober. As for his love life, Ben was engaged to Jennifer Lopez from 2002 to 2004, and after their split, he married Jennifer Garner in 2005. He and Jen Garner welcomed three children during their marriage, before separating in 2015. In 2021, he got back together with and they tied the knot in 2022. However, they ultimately got divorced after just over two years of marriage in 2024. Meanwhile, Gwyneth met Chris Martin in 2002, and the pair were married by the following year. Chris and Gwyneth welcomed two children together, Apple and Moses, before announcing their split (or 'conscious uncoupling') in March 2014. Today, she is married to Brad Falchuk, whom she began dating in 2014. Gwyneth: The Biography by Amy Odell hits shelves on July 29 and is available for pre-order here.
