Brewers send pitcher Tobias Myers back to the minors as he tries to regain his 2024 form

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Tobias Myers is going back to the minors as he continues to struggle to match the success he enjoyed as a rookie last year.
The Brewers optioned Myers to Triple-A Nashville on Sunday while selecting right-handed pitcher Easton McGee from Triple-A and transferring left-handed pitcher Connor Thomas to the 60-day injured list.

Myers is 1-1 with a 4.95 ERA in six appearances, including five starts. He allowed four runs over 3 2/3 innings in a 7-0 loss to the Minnesota Twins on Saturday.
The right-hander had gone 9-6 with a 3.00 ERA last season and was selected the Brewers' most valuable pitcher by the Milwaukee chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America. He closed that season by pitching five scoreless innings in the decisive Game 3 of the NL Wild Card Series against the New York Mets, a game the Brewers lost 4-2 by allowing four runs in the ninth.
'I love the kid, man,' Brewers manager Pat Murphy said after Saturday's game. 'You saw it in Game 3, that's in there. So we've got to get back to that.'
The Brewers had optioned Myers to Nashville a week ago, but he didn't actually pitch there before rejoining the big-league club after left-hander José Quintana went on the injured list with a left shoulder issue. Now he's heading back to Nashville.

Myers entered Saturday having walked 10 batters over 16 1/3 innings. He didn't walk anyone Saturday, but gave up a career-high 11 hits.
'My goal was to fill the zone up and kind of get away from the walks I've been dealing with,' Myers said after the game. 'I think I just filled it up a little too much.'
McGee went 1-0 with a 3.44 ERA and 20 strikeouts over 18 1/3 innings in 13 relief appearances with Nashville.
McGee appeared in one game for Tampa Bay in 2022 and one game for Seattle in 2023. In the only two games he has pitched in the big leagues, McGee has allowed just one unearned run over 9 2/3 innings while striking out three and allowing five hits and one walk.

'The stuff he sent him didn't make any sense, so he didn't tell me,' Traylor said. 'He was just being nice to his buddy. It got blown out of context in my opinion.' McCown threw for 3,424 yards and 25 touchdowns with 10 interceptions in 13 games last season, his first as the Roadrunners starter. They finished 7-6 and beat Coastal Carolina in the Myrtle Beach Bowl. Jaguars DE Josh Hines-Allen says his 7-year-old son Wesley is recovering from leukemia
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Josh Hines-Allen announced Friday that his 7-year-old son, Wesley, is recovering from cancer. Hines-Allen and his wife, Kaitlyn, provided the news in a three-minute video released on social media. They said the diagnosis of acute promyelocytic leukemia came after Wesley spiked a fever and started bleeding from a tooth days before last year's season finale, which Hines-Allen missed for personal reasons. 'It just kind of like hit me, and then nothing else mattered after that,' Hines-Allen said in the video. Wesley underwent chemotherapy for six months. He has a few treatments remaining before he gets to ring the bell next month at Nemours Children's Health in Jacksonville. 'Wesley is doing great," Kaitlyn said in the video. "He's swimming every day. He's running around. He's playing sports.' Added Hines-Allen: 'He's got back to being the big brother that he is.' Hines-Allen and his wife also announced Friday that their nonprofit foundation, Four One For All, will launch a season-long campaign called "Four One For Hope" to give back to four cancer-focused non-profits each month of the NFL regular season. Yankees acquire third baseman Ryan McMahon from the Rockies for prospects, AP source says
DENVER (AP) — The New York Yankees acquired third baseman Ryan McMahon from the Colorado Rockies on Friday for prospects, a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the trade is pending physicals. was first to report the agreement. McMahon leaves the last-place Rockies for a Yankees team that's in the thick of a playoff chase. The slick-fielding 30-year-old infielder is hitting .217 with 16 homers and 35 RBIs this season. McMahon is owed about $36.2 million from the remainder of a $70 million, six-year contract through 2027. New York is searching for some stability at third after All-Star infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. was moved back to second base. He took the place of DJ LeMahieu, who was cut by the team. Oswald Peraza and Jorbit Vivas have recently been spending time at the hot corner. McMahon was a second-round pick in 2013 by the Rockies out of Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California. An All-Star in 2024, McMahon is a lifetime .240 batter with 140 homers over parts of nine seasons. He's appeared in four career playoff games — all in 2018. McMahon is due $4,193,548 for the remaining portion of his $12 million salary this year and $16 million in each of the next two seasons. ___
