David Beckham's furious reaction when he thought I'd insulted Brooklyn exposes Nicola's role in devastating family feud

The Sun04-05-2025
BROOKLYN 'Buster' Beckham has hero-worshipped his dad since the day he was born.
His first ever tattoo, eight years ago, was dedicated to Becks, and just six months ago the aspiring chef excitedly launched his Cloud 23 condiment range - a nod to his talented father's Real Madrid shirt number.

A lot, then, can happen in half a year.
Today the once seemingly unbreakable father/son bond has been smashed to smithereens. And with it, David's heart.
As a showbiz reporter covering the Beckhams for 20 years, I know first-hand how much this rift is hurting a devoted family man: a chap who would readily trade in every medal and trophy for the health and happiness of his inner circle.
About six years ago, I wrote a story about David explaining some of the unpleasant online rumours circulating to the then 20-year-old Brooklyn.
David was FURIOUS. How DARE I drag his son into this?
His former publicist rang me one Sunday, sounding equally furious.
I was on a train to Bath, and he told me: 'David is very, very angry.
'I've not really heard him like this before.
'He's asked for your telephone number and wants to call you now, and give you a piece of his mind.
'I'm trying to persuade him not to but he seems pretty adamant.'
It's fair to say I was bricking it; not aided by a series of tunnels from Paddington to Bath meaning I kept losing signal and Wi-Fi.
The call never came.
David, apparently, had calmed down. (Or Britain's pathetic rail service saved me; we shall never know).
But in a world of media advisers and social media, I was impressed.
He clearly cared, and was absolutely resolute in defence of his family.
It was the reaction of a truly loving, loyal, passionate dad.
We would all want a David Beckham in our corner in that situation.
In the intervening years, we completely and utterly patched things up.
David has gone on to do wonderfully kind things with The Sun's Who Cares Wins teams, selflessly giving up him time to make a legion of kids' dreams come true.
He has been a joy to work with, looks and smells incredible, and for the past two years I've received Christmas cards from him and the dogs.
After helping me with a charity campaign - he and middle son Romeo, another wonderfully polite, endearingly shy boy - helped coach an incredible young Down's Syndrome football team called the Penguins, he sent me a huge bunch of beautiful flowers to say thank you. (Romeo quietly went on to become an Ambassador, a move he did off his own back.)

David and his kids are as kind as they are generous, and old-school thoughtful.
I have genuinely never met someone with a bad word to stay against any of them.
Which perhaps explains why pals are laying the blame squarely on the shoulders of Brooklyn's glamorous American wife, Nicola Peltz, for this latest feud.
Fiercely ambitious - no bad thing - she wants to be one half of an influencing power couple.
And by its very definition, a 'couple' means two people - there isn't room for David and Victoria and co.
To her credit, she has never sponged financially off her in-laws - indeed, her parents are the real fiscal powerhouses, and billionaires - but it's clear infatuated Brooklyn is choosing his wife over his parents.
As many young men do.
I mean, look at Prince Harry …
Hopefully this is a rift that will mend - but for now, it's a hammer to the heart of the Beckhams' greatest patriarch.

Hollywood star under fire for 'sick' comments on Colbert cancellation

Sandra Oh's (pictured) strong words against CBS & Paramount raised eyebrows in the wake of their cancellation of The Late Show hosted by Stephen Colbert. The Killing Eve actress, 54, garnered controversy after making a number of strong comments on Tuesday's edition of the late night series on the network, with one prominent CBS commentator saying her sentiments were misguided. The Canadian-American star expressed her anger and frustration with Colbert's cancellation this month , after a 10-season run. 'Like probably everyone here and everyone who is so supportive outside wants to say that I am so sorry and saddened and properly outraged for the cancellation of late-night here,' the Emmy-winning actress said. Oh, a two-time Golden Globe winner, said that the decision made on the corporate level - which many say had political undertones - was a game-changer for standards in the U.S. amid President Donald Trump's second term. 'Not only for yourself and for this entire family who are here, but for what it means, of what it means where we are in our culture and what it means for free speech,' said the Sideways actress. Oh, who played Dr. Cristina Yang on ABC's Grey's Anatomy from 2005 until 2014, made strong wishes against the companies that were behind the move. 'So I just want to say, sorry, and also if I can have your hand,' she told the host, 'to CBS and Paramount - a plague on both of your houses.' Colbert said he was 'very grateful' as he wagged his finger, adding, 'I think they've been great partners.' Oh, who portrayed the role of Eve Polastri on the drama Killing Eve, garnered a number of strong responses via social media following the appearance - with some people saying she took things too far. Tony Dokoupil (pictured) of CBS Mornings said Oh had things pegged wrong in blaming Colbert's show ending on politics, amid a changing economic landscape in late night TV - and culture. 'The business is broken,' Dokoupil said. 'And what no one seems to acknowledge is that the politics also changed. 'The business changed and so did the politics, and it got way more one-sided than anything Johnny Carson was ever doing.' (Carson, who died in 2005, famously was one to steer clear of going too far left or right so as not to put off a chunk of his audience.) Dokoupil added, 'I think we should reflect on those changes as well - it's been a big shift culturally in that regard also.' Others applauded The Sympathizer star's strong support for the embattled Colbert, with one Instagram user declaring, 'I love a good Shakespearean insult.' Another user on the platform said: 'I know Stephen is really really sad mostly because he knows 200 people will also be out of work. He's a good man and he feels responsible. By the way, I love Sandra Oh!' A user responded of Oh: 'Technically she used their own platform against them, Colbert's show.' Said one X/Twitter user: 'sandra oh wishing a plague on cbs and paramount on steven colbert's show she's everything.' Another added, 'I'm screamingggg she's too funny.' The move to ax Colbert was a controversial one within some circles of Hollywood, as the late night host has received words of public support from the genre's elder statesman, David Letterman ; as well as former host of The Daily Show, Jon Stewart. Stewart lashed out amid news of the cancelation, linking it to the $8 billion merger between Paramount and Skydance Media, which needed to be OK'ed by the Federal Communications Commission under Trump's administration. 'The shows that you now seek to cancel, censor and control, a not insignificant portion of that $8 billion value came from those [expletive] shows,' Stewart said. Dokoupil said that while he understood 'the emotional views' Stewart expressed, they weren't square with good business tactics. 'I don't have an MBA but he's not right that the merger, the $8 billion, is based on reruns of a comedy show, no,' he said. 'People are buying the movies and the sitcoms and the sports. They're not based on reruns of [CBS Mornings] either, so I think it's wrong.'

Ellie Goulding, 38, jets off on romantic summer holiday with actor lover, 28

Ellie Goulding is heating up the summer as she shared a string of sultry bikini snaps from a lavish holiday in Italy, fresh off the rumoured reveal of her new romance. The 38-year-old singer left fans swooning with a series of Instagram photos posted Thursday, showing off her gym-honed figure and golden tan while soaking up the Mediterranean sun with her new beau, US actor Beau Minniear, 28. The photo dump included Ellie posing in bathing suits, catching rays with a book in hand, and later switching to a green two-piece. In another shot, the pop star cradled a coconut while modelling a Fenty bikini, before turning up the glam with polished mirror selfies and breezy summer daywear. She captioned the carousel simply: 'Carbs.' The sun-soaked snaps come just days after Goulding reportedly made her new relationship with actor Beau Minniear public. According to The Sun, the pair debuted their romance during a high-profile night out at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, attending the heavyweight clash between Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois. It marks Ellie's first known romance since a brief fling with 29-year-old surf instructor Armando Perez, following her split f from husband Caspar Jopling, 33, with whom she shares four-year-old son Arthur. Ellie and Jopling, an art dealer, quietly separated last year after five years of marriage. Ellie told fans she had been left with 'no choice' but to publicly announce that they had been separated for 'some time.' 'In light of recent stories, I feel I have been left with no choice but to let you all know that Caspar and I privately separated some time ago,' she wrote at the time. 'We remain the closest of friends and have been successfully co-parenting with our son's best interests at heart.' Rumours of a spark between Ellie and Beau began swirling earlier this month after she shared a since-deleted TikTok video showing her stroking a mystery man's arm. More Trending Eagle-eyed fans matched the watch he was wearing to one Beau frequently sports in his own Instagram posts. Both also posted images from the same luxe hotel in Florence, further fuelling speculation. A source told The Sun: 'Ellie is into Beau and they have a lot of shared interests like exercise and art. They've been having fun together and they certainly make for an attractive couple.' Minniear has appeared in a handful of TV and film roles in the US, including Night at the Eagle Inn (2021), The Thieves of Motor City, and Bad Haircut. Got a story? 'I lost the best friend I ever had': Kelly Osbourne pays tribute to dad Ozzy

Kelly Osbourne said she has lost her 'best friend' following the death of her father, Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne. The rock legend was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2019 and died at the age of 76 on Tuesday morning, surrounded by his family. In a heartfelt message posted to her Instagram stories on Thursday, Kelly shared lyrics from the Black Sabbath song Changes, a track she famously re-recorded with her father. 'I feel unhappy I am so sad. I lost the best friend I ever had,' she wrote next to an emoji of a broken heart. Released in 2003, their reimagined duet hit number one on the UK Singles chart. The duo became only the second father-daughter act to top the chart, following Nancy and Frank Sinatra in 1967. Osbourne's death came a few weeks after he reunited with his Black Sabbath bandmates on July 5 to play a farewell gig at Villa Park – a stone's throw from where the band was formed in 1968. After the live performance, Osbourne and his wife Sharon celebrated Kelly's engagement with her long-term partner Sid Wilson, a member of the heavy metal band Slipknot. PA Media The day after the gig, Kelly thanked her father's fans for attending his last live performance. She wrote on Instagram: 'To say that yesterday was magic was an understatement! 'Thank you to everyone who came to support my dad. Thank you to the fans who without we are nothing! 'My dad got his moment in the sun! He was able to say thank you and good bye in the most beautiful way!' Tributes to Osbourne were led by his Black Sabbath bandmates, including Terence 'Geezer' Butler, Tony Iommi and Bill Ward, along with celebrity friends including Kiss star Gene Simmons and Queen guitarist Sir Brian May. PA Media Earlier on Thursday, Status Quo frontman Francis Rossi spoke on ITV's Good Morning Britain and described Osbourne as 'wild'. He said: 'He was a great young guy. And then obviously, American success got to him, I think. And it gets to a lot of us. You get carried away with all that stuff that one shouldn't. I did and I'm over it.' Osbourne was also described by the Lord mayor of Birmingham, Zafar Iqbal, as a 'proud Brummie' who helped put the city 'on the world map'. Mr Iqbal met the founding members of the heavy metal band, formed in the city in 1968, when they were presented with the freedom of Birmingham in June. He told the PA news agency: 'He (Osbourne) was very important and he was a proud Brummie. He loved the city. He will be much missed, I think, and he was loved by so many people in the city.' Other stars have also honoured the 'Prince of Darkness' by paying tribute to him during live concert performances, including Lady Gaga, Coldplay and Alice Cooper, who praised him for performing until he 'couldn't do it any more'.
