Pakistan president meets Prince Rahim Aga Khan V, condoles over death of his ‘visionary' father
The late Aga Khan IV, who led the global Ismaili community for nearly seven decades, passed away last week at the age of 88. His death was announced by the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) and the Ismaili religious community.
A private funeral service took place at the Ismaili community center in Lisbon on Saturday, attended by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Spanish King Juan Carlos, Portugal's President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and Pakistan's Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb. He was laid to rest on Sunday at a private ceremony in Aswan, Egypt.
Following the late Aga Khan's passing, his eldest son, Prince Rahim Al-Hussaini, 53, was named the Aga Khan V, the 50th hereditary Imam of the Ismaili community, in accordance with his father's will.
'Remembering the late Aga Khan as a visionary leader and humanitarian, the President praised his exceptional contributions to education, health care, and poverty alleviation,' the Pakistani foreign ministry said.
'He highlighted the Aga Khan Development Network's (AKDN) lasting impact, including its vital role in Pakistan's progress, particularly in underserved regions.'
Founded by the late Ismaili leader, the AKDN has been instrumental in various development projects in Pakistan, particularly in Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral regions.
Initiatives such as the Aga Khan Rural Support Program have focused on poverty alleviation, health care, education and cultural preservation, significantly contributing to the socio-economic development of these areas. The Ismaili community in Pakistan, numbering in hundreds of thousands, has benefited from these initiatives, which have also had a positive impact on the national economy through improved infrastructure and human development.
During Monday's meeting, Prince Rahim Aga Khan V thanked the Pakistan president for his condolences and reaffirmed his family's commitment to continuing the mission of service and development, according to the Pakistani foreign ministry.
Zardari will also meet his Portuguese counterpart during his trip to the country, according to Pakistani state media.

Spain Urges UN to Stop Cooperating with Israel In June, Sanchez called on the European Union to immediately suspend its cooperation deal with Israel. These remarks represent Sanchez's strongest condemnation to date after a lot of critical statements against Israel and its genocide in Gaza. The Spanish PM shed light on a recent human rights report by the EU's diplomatic service which tackled 'the catastrophic situation of genocide unfolding in Gaza.' Importantly, the report mentioned 'indications' that Israel was breaching its human rights obligations under the deal, which forms the basis for trade ties. Sanchez said it was 'more than obvious' that Israel was violating its obligations and that the bloc should suspend the cooperation deal 'immediately.' Furthermore, the report tackled Israel's blockade of humanitarian aid, the high number of civilian casualties, attacks on journalists and the massive displacement and destruction caused by the war. Sanchez added that 'it makes no sense' that the bloc has imposed 18 rounds of sanctions on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine but, 'in a double standard, is not even capable of suspending an association deal.' India denies it was pressured into ending conflict with Pakistan
KOCHI — India's defencs ministry has rejected US President Donald Trump's claim of ending its conflict with Pakistan in May, saying the country had not responded to pressure from anyone. Rajnath Singh was speaking at the opening of a parliamentary debate on the 22 April attack in Pahalgam, in Indian-administered Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 tourists. India blamed Pakistan for the attack - which it denied - and launched a series of strikes, named "Operation Sindoor", on its neighbour, leading to four days of intense military action from both sides. Trump has frequently claimed that the ceasefire between the two nuclear-armed neighbours was brokered by the US - which India has denied. On Monday, Singh reiterated that it was "completely incorrect and baseless to say that the military action was stopped because of pressure". "India halted its operation because all the political and military objectives studied before and during the conflict had been fully achieved," he told the Lok Sabha, the lower house of parliament. He also claimed the decision was taken after a request from Pakistan's Director General of Military Operations (DGMO), who "pleaded for relief". "It was only after this that the Indian Armed Forces decided to pause operations," he added. Islamabad has not commented on Singh's claims. The escalation in May was the worst military confrontation between India and Pakistan in decades, with dozens of people killed in the four-day fighting, before Trump announced a ceasefire between them. Singh said the purpose of India's military action was "to destroy the terror nurseries raised by Pakistan over the years". He said over 100 "terrorists, their trainers, handlers and associates" were killed in coordinated strikes on nine "terror infrastructure targets" in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered-Kashmir in an operation that lasted 22 minutes. "The objective was to provide justice to the families who lost their loved ones in the Pahalgam terror attack," he said. During the proceedings, opposition leaders questioned the government about Islamabad's claim that it shot down five Indian fighter jets and a drone during the conflict. Singh denied this and said India's defence systems had intercepted all incoming projectiles and missiles, adding that no Indian military establishment suffered any damage. He also said the Indian armed forces could resume military action if there was any further "misadventure" from the Pakistan side. Earlier in the day, the Indian army said that it had killed "three terrorists" in a gun battle in Indian-administered Kashmir. Canada Condemns Israel over Gaza's ‘Humanitarian Disaster'
Canada has condemned Israel's failure to put an end to the unthinkable humanitarian conditions in Gaza after almost 21 months of war, according to Al Arabiya.
