The Pixel 9 once again enjoying a tempting $200 discount at Amazon

Phone Arena14 hours ago
Amazon is feeling especially generous toward some Pixel phones right now, and the latest promo we're bringing to your attention is this superb $200 discount on the Pixel 9. That brings all 128GB variants just under the $600 mark, which is a solid drop from their original ~$800 asking price.
$200 off (25%)
Amazon is once again giving you a big Pixel 9 discount that makes the smartphone way more attractive. Right now, you can get the device for $200 off in both 128GB and 256GB variants, making it way more affordable than usual. Get yours and save big while it lasts. Buy at Amazon Sure, we've come across bigger discounts in the past, including a massive $250 discount during last month's Prime Day. Nevertheless, this one is still worth checking out, as it brings a fantastic compact phone at a much more affordable price. In our Pixel 9 review, we've emphasized just how good the display looks. Its 6.3-inch OLED touchscreen offers impressive visuals, gets incredibly bright, and supports a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. What more could you need?
It's not just the screen that looks gorgeous, though. This handset has a premium design, and its stock Android interface is a joy to use. What about performance? The Google phone comes with a Tensor G4 chip under the hood. That makes it a bit faster than the Pixel 8, but it still lags behind models like the Galaxy S24. Even though it might not crush the benchmark tests, the Pixel 9 delivers a smooth daily performance. You won't notice any hiccups or lag that may hinder your experience, which is always a plus. The Tensor G4 SoC also unlocks all the lovely AI features that elevate your experience even further.
The Android phone is a winner on the camera front as well. It features two cameras on the back: a 50MP main and a 48MP ultra-wide, plus a 10.5MP selfie sensor. Expect photos with excellent detail, lifelike colors, and great dynamic range — more than good enough for its current asking price.
At the end of the day, the Pixel 9 might have been cheaper in the past, but it's well worth it at $200 off. Keep in mind that some colors might not stay at that discount for a short while, so you might want to jump on it before it vanishes.

Does today's Pixel update exterminate the bug you've been praying that Google would fix?

The Android 16 monthly update for August has been released by Google and can be installed on compatible Pixel phones. Which models are those? Glad you asked. Those models include the Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel Tablet, Pixel Fold, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 8a, Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro , Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, and Pixel 9a. If you have one of those devices, go to Settings > System > Software update . I have yet to receive the update on my Pixel 6 Pro running the latest Android 16 QPR1 Beta release. If your Pixel does have the August 1st update, it will mention the three vulnerabilities fixed with the 2025-08-01 security patch. The three vulnerabilities include two deemed to be high in severity, while one is listed as critical. Three new Android vulnerabilities are patched by the Android Security Update. | Image credit-Google The most severe vulnerability among this group could lead to "the local escalation of privilege with no additional execution privileges needed. User interaction is needed for exploitation." This means that the attacker needs to have access to the device through a malicious app you've installed, or even a file you downloaded on your device. If successful in getting you to download the app or files, the attacker can raise his level of control over your device to a higher level than initially granted. For example, an app might have the ability to see your photos but, by raising its privilege level the attacker could end up being able to steal your data or even install other malware. The attacker can start at an unprivileged level, and raise it by exploiting the flaw. The vulnerability cannot be exploited without the phone user taking some action to get the ball rolling. Such action could include: Clicking on a malicious link. Opening a PDF, an image file, or another crafted file. Installing a malicious app. The vulnerability rated critical can be exploited remotely over a network like the Internet. The attacker does not need to have physical control of your phone or trick you into installing a malicious app. With code execution, the bad actor can run his own code on your device, allowing him to steal your personal data, install malware, and take control of your device. The attacker must exploit at least one other bug to successfully execute this plan. That makes it harder to pull off. SYSTEM All Pixel models, including the Pixel 6 and later, will see "General improvements for system stability and performance in certain conditions." USER INTERFACE All Pixel models, including the Pixel 6 and later, get a fix for an issue where the scheduled dark theme wasn't working under certain conditions. All Pixel models, including the Pixel 6 and later, get a fix for issues involving the 3-button and gesture navigation options in certain conditions. If you're wondering when the next Pixel Feature Drop is coming, one rumored date is Wednesday, September 3rd. That could be when Google drops the next Quarterly Platform Release (QPR). So if you are currently running the Android 16 QPR1 Beta and want to return to the stable version of Android without having to wipe your data, you'll be able to do that when Google releases Android 16 QPR1. On September 3rd, or whatever the date is when Google does release Android 16 QPR1, go to the Android Beta for Pixel website by tapping on this link or directing your browser to Click on the box that says "View your eligible devices," and you'll be sent to a part of the site that shows a picture of your Pixel model. Underneath that will be a box prompting you to exit the Beta by tapping on it. Do that and check for a software update that will arrive within the next 24 hours. Install the update and you'll be back on the stable Android track. You must wait until the Android 16 QPR1 update has been released, or else you'll be in for a nasty surprise! (Your apps and personal data will be wiped from your phone).

OnePlus 15 to come with a radical design change

Vlad, 06 August 2025 The upcoming OnePlus 15 will massively switch things up in the design department compared to its predecessor, the OnePlus 13. That is the latest rumor out of China, which is claiming that the next flagship OnePlus will give up on the huge circular camera island. Instead, the OnePlus 15 will have a rounded-corner rectangle-shaped island, positioned in the top left part of its rear. Thus, it will be very similar to the island employed by the recently launched OnePlus 13T and OnePlus 13s. OnePlus 13s The OnePlus 15 is also rumored to give up on the Hasselblad co-branding, and feature a lower-resolution screen than its predecessor. It will still be a good panel with LIPO tech and very thin bezels, but it will only have "1.5K" resolution. The OnePlus 15 will have a 50 MP main camera, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 SoC at the helm, and a 7,000-7,500 mAh battery with support for 100W wired charging. Those are all the details leaked right now, but undoubtedly more stuff will be outed in the future, so stay tuned. The global tablet market is booming again, but not thanks to Apple or Samsung

While global smartphone shipments continue to fluctuate from quarter to quarter due to many different reasons ranging from complex macroeconomic issues to tariff volatility and the industry's general lack of innovation over the last few years, the tablet market is amazingly posting year-on-year growth for the sixth quarter in a row. Of course, worldwide tablet sales aren't exactly doubling from year to year, but a 9 percent increase in the market's Q2 numbers compared to the same period of 2024 is certainly nothing to sneeze at either. That's a very positive trend for the global tablet market. Surprisingly enough, this latest healthy progress is not primarily owed to the largest vendor out there... or even the industry's second-biggest player. Instead, it's the companies ranked third, fourth, and fifth between April and June 2025 that shined brightest in terms of year-on-year growth. Yes, Huawei managed to jump from 2.5 million unit shipments in Q2 2024 to a little over 3.2 million now, extending its previously very fragile lead over Lenovo and consolidating its place on the podium with an 8.3 percent slice of the global pie (up from 7 percent). Lenovo's 24.7 percent rise from under 2.5 million unit shipments to more than 3 million is also not too shabby, keeping the China-based brand in fourth place for yet another quarter, but Xiaomi is closing in on both Lenovo and Huawei fast after improving its Q2 tally by no less than 42.3 percent between 2024 and 2025. Should Apple fear Huawei, Lenovo, and Xiaomi's rise? Probably not. At least not yet. It pretty much goes without saying that the flourishing numbers of all three of these vendors are derived mainly from China, which means that one of the key reasons why Apple and Samsung are unable to keep up with those scores right now might be their weak presence in Huawei, Lenovo, and Xiaomi's huge domestic market. At the end of the day, however, Apple is still the global tablet market's top dog, with more than 14 million unit shipments and 36.1 percent share in Q2 2025. One of those numbers is actually (slightly) higher than how the company ended Q2 2024, which is not what we can say about Samsung. The industry's silver medalist remains miles ahead of Huawei, but both its quarterly shipments and market share are down from last year's April to June timeframe, which can't be viewed as a positive thing for the world's number one smartphone vendor.
