James Worthy is bullish on Lakers' acquisition of Jake LaRavia
But they also got forward Jake LaRavia to agree to a two-year, $12 million contract. This move has flown somewhat under the radar, but there are some in the NBA community who feel he may turn out to be a gem for the team.
James Worthy, the Lakers Hall of Famer from their Showtime squads of the 1980s, seems bullish on LaRavia. He said during the "Lake Show" podcast that the 23-year-old will thrive offensively in L.A.
'I like him,' Worthy said. 'Coming to play for JJ Redick, who encourages you to take the three when you open.
'Playing with the biggest magnet in the game, Luka [Doncic], eight out of 10 plays he gets into the paint, there are four players that are collapsing around him, he's going to be able to find those guys if you can move to the level and get in eyesight.'
Worthy also pointed out that L.A.'s two other main stars will help LaRavia get good shots.
'I think he'll find some shots. LeBron is another guy that breaks down the defence, Austin Reaves, he can break down the defense.
'So if you're a savvy guy that knows how to drop down to the level of the ball, and be in sight, you are going to benefit from that.'
LaRavia hit 42.3% of his 3-point attempts this past season, and that is a skill the Lakers definitely need more of, especially since it looks like Redick wants them to be a high-volume 3-point shooting team. He can also attack the basket off the dribble a bit, and he may be an underrated defender, especially when it comes to getting steals and deflections.
During the 2024-25 season, LaRavia averaged 12.2 points, 6.9 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.7 steals per 36 minutes.

Luka Doncic Is Determined To Get Back At The Mavericks For Betraying Him After Blockbuster Trade
Luka Doncic Is Determined To Get Back At The Mavericks For Betraying Him After Blockbuster Trade originally appeared on Fadeaway World. Lakers star Luka Doncic is in the middle of a critical offseason as he nears the start of his first full season in Los Angeles. Months after the trade that paired him with LeBron James, Doncic is doing whatever it takes to keep himself in shape and is using the words from his former team to help him push through his most transformative summer yet. Advertisement 'Doncic remains motivated by how the Dallas Mavericks treated him in the aftermath of the trade and how the Lakers' season ended, and has committed to an offseason training and nutrition program," sources told ESPN's Dave McMenamin. In the aftermath of their shocking decision, the Mavericks were looking for any reason to justify the trade and called out his work ethic and conditioning as the primary reasons for his departure. According to the Mavericks, Doncic struggled to stay in shape and hold himself up to a higher standard. Now, Luka is using those words to help inspire him to greatness. Besides elite talent and a solid support system, Doncic will also have every resource available to help him reach new heights in his training and physical fitness journey. "Doncic will also have a direct conduit to the Lakers' coaching staff with him this summer. Lakers assistant coach Greg St. Jean will serve as an assistant coach with the Slovenian national team, sources told ESPN, as Doncic competes for his home country in the FIBA EuroBasket tournament." Advertisement Like the rest of us, Doncic was blindsided by his trade to the Lakers. He thought he'd be in Dallas for a long time, especially after leading them to the NBA Finals in 2024. So it's no surprise that he felt betrayed when the Mavs decided to send him to Los Angeles completely out of the blue. The betrayal increased tenfold when the Mavs blamed his character as part of the reason. To this day, Doncic's reputation has yet to recover, and it's something he's actively seeking to rectify. Sadly, even with averages of 28.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 7.7 assists per game last season, it wasn't enough for Doncic to silence the haters. The only way to prove them wrong and restore his reputation is to win it all with the Lakers while keeping himself in the best shape of his career. Thanks to the Mavericks' harsh betrayal of Luka, he's going to be playing with a chip on his shoulder and some added motivation to show that the Mavs made a huge mistake in letting him go. Already, fans have noticed Doncic looking exceptionally slimmer, and he hasn't even started playing in this year's EuroBasket tournament. If he continues this trajectory, Doncic could be in store for a career-high season, and the Lakers will need every bit of it to challenge NBA elites such as the Thunder, Timberwolves, Nuggets, and Rockets. Advertisement As for the Mavericks, Nico Harrison doesn't yet have any regrets over making the trade, and he believes his team is primed for success in the years to come. But if Luka makes a run and proves that he's capable of being a champion, it will forever make them look foolish for giving him up so easily. NBA Insider Rips Lakers For Focusing On 2027 Instead Of Going All-In With LeBron And Luka
NBA Insider Rips Lakers For Focusing On 2027 Instead Of Going All-In With LeBron And Luka originally appeared on Fadeaway World. The Los Angeles Lakers have lost Dorian Finney-Smith in free agency, and it appears the franchise isn't interested in going all-in. The Lakers reportedly want to preserve cap space for 2027, and Yahoo Sports' Kevin O'Connor has ripped them for this approach when they have LeBron James and Luka Doncic on the roster. Advertisement "2027? You mean…two summers from now…for a player they may or may not be able to get? Is Rob Pelinka insane? You have Luka Doncic and LeBron James on your team today!" O'Connor wouldn't have been the only one to have had that kind of reaction. Very rarely do you see a team have two players as great as James and Doncic on their roster, and instead of maximizing the chances to win now, the Lakers are prioritizing the future. Here is what ESPN's Dave McMenamin reported about the situation. "Though Finney-Smith was a popular locker room figure and helped the Lakers to a 14-6 record in the 20 games he started in the regular season, L.A. exercised discipline in its negotiations to preserve cap space for 2027, when the team expects to have space to sign a max-salary free agent." This is so incredibly bizarre. To go with O'Connor's comments, the very best players in the NBA rarely hit free agency in this age of supermax contracts. When we do see a superstar change teams, it's almost always via a trade. Advertisement So, why would the Lakers even want to create cap space for a max contract in 2027? There's no guarantee whatsoever that a big name will be available then. Even if a star is entering the market, do we think they will be better than James, even at this stage of his career? James averaged 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, 8.2 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game in 2024-25 to make the All-NBA Second Team. There is a very slim chance that Doncic will get to play alongside someone this good in the future, and so, the Lakers need to try to win now. If the Lakers are so focused on the future that they don't want to give Finney-Smith a deal comparable to what the Houston Rockets gave him (four years, $53 million), they can kiss their chances of winning a title with this James-Doncic duo goodbye. This was, by no means, a deal that could potentially doom them in a couple of years. You usually can't fault a team for keeping an eye on the future, but the Lakers are in a unique situation. They have two superstars who are playing at a high level, but one of them will be gone in a year or two. Advertisement This approach from the Lakers could be why there have been suggestions that James could leave. The 40-year-old picked up his $52.4 million player option for 2025-26, but all we've heard since then is that he could potentially ask out. NBA insider Shams Charania reported that James could leave the Lakers if they can't compete for a title. The 21-time All-Star understands that they are prioritizing the future in a lot of ways, but he wants to win another championship before he walks away from the game. LeBron James And The Lakers Are Drifting Apart After Seven Years Together
LeBron James And The Lakers Are Drifting Apart After Seven Years Together originally appeared on Fadeaway World. When LeBron James first signed with the Lakers in 2018, he likely imagined it would be the final stop of his NBA career. But after seven seasons with the Purple and Gold, it seems the relationship between LeBron and the Lakers organization has deteriorated beyond what anyone thought possible. According to ESPN's Brian Windhorst, the Lakers are now in the early stages of a dramatic breakup with the King. Advertisement "One thing I feel pretty good about today, although things can pivot, is that LeBron's time with the Lakers is beginning to come to an end, you know? They are beginning to move apart," said Windhorst. "You can actually argue that that started when they traded for Luka [Doncic]." For years, LeBron had complete control and autonomy over the Lakers. He was at the center of every move they made and their vocal leader both on and off the court. Since the trade for Luka Doncic in February, however, things have changed for LeBron. As Windhorst explained, that blockbuster trade took LeBron off guard and put him in unfamiliar territory. 'I know that everybody thought that LeBron was in on that. And I know I said at the time I didn't believe that. LeBron was not in on it. I don't know what to tell you. He was not in on it. He wasn't against it, you know? I think he was shocked that they traded Anthony Davis. But LeBron was not in part of that decision process. I know that there are people who believe that he's a general manager and you can't talk them out of it, so I will not try. But that was a move that was away from LeBron as the center of the team.' Every NBA team has a pecking order, and LeBron has been at the top for pretty much his entire career. With the Cavaliers, Heat, and Lakers, he was the star of the show and the leading voice of reason. Luka Doncic's arrival, however, has shifted the balance of power. Advertisement For the first time in his career, LeBron is no longer the most important member of his team. He's being treated as an expiring contract while the Lakers are focusing everything around Luka's game. After 22 seasons, the Lakers know that James' days in the league are numbered, and it's why he's become an afterthought in their team-building plans. Unfortunately for LeBron, this arrangement is less than ideal, considering he's still in the business of winning a title. Even at 40 years old, James wants to compete at the highest level, and he's growing impatient with the current situation in Los Angeles. As his future grows more and more unstable, teams across the league are already preparing for his potential availability. With averages of 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists per game last season, LeBron can still deliver at an elite level, and leaving the Lakers now would change the NBA hierarchy for years to come. Regardless of what happens, the Lakers are Luka's team now, and if James doesn't want to get with that program, he'll be better off somewhere else to spend the rest of his career.
