Inter Milan pushing for Giovanni Leoni after Ange-Yoan Bonny deal

Inter Milan are looking to sign Parma's young defender Giovanni Leoni during the summer transfer window (h/t La Gazzetta dello Sport). The Nerazzurri have reached an agreement worth up to €26 million for the signing of Parma striker Ange Yoan-Bonny, who is expected to have his medicals tomorrow. Advertisement They have now set their sights on his Parma team-mate Leoni. Having worked with the 18-year-old at Parma, Inter manager Cristian Chivu is looking to reunite with Leoni at San Siro. The Italian centre-back emerged as one of the best young talents in Serie A last season, playing a pivotal role in Parma's escape from relegation. His impressive performances have also caught the attention of fellow Italian giants AC Milan and Juventus. But the Nerazzurri will have the edge in the transfer race due to Chivu's presence. They are ready to spend up to €30 million for Leoni. Chivu has identified the Italian prodigy as a top target to reinforce their ageing backline. Advertisement Francesco Acerbi has entered the final year of his contract, although Inter have the option to terminate his deal this summer. The Italian giants are also open to selling the German centre-back Yann Aurel Bisseck. They look to reinvest the proceeds from his sale in Leoni. The former Padova star has the potential to succeed at Inter and form a great partnership with his compatriot Alessandro Bastoni. Leoni can also enhance his chances of a senior team call-up from Italy by sealing a move to Inter. The Nerazzurri have already signed Petar Sucic and Luis Henrique this summer.

Leeds close to signing Sebastiaan Bornauw from Wolfsburg

Leeds United are close to completing the signing of defender Sebastiaan Bornauw from German side Wolfsburg. The two clubs have agreed a €6million (£5.13m) fee for the centre-back and he is set to undergo a medical on Monday. His Wolfsburg contract is set to expire next summer. A deal for Bornauw would see him become Leeds' third signing of the summer after fellow defender Jaka Bijol joined from Udinese in a £15m transfer and forward Lukas Nmecha arrived as a free agent. Nmecha was a team-mate of Bornauw's at Wolfsburg for the previous four seasons. Advertisement Bornauw only played 16 games last term as Wolfsburg finished 11th in the Bundesliga after injuries and illness caused him to miss 18 matches. He has appeared 96 times for Wolfsburg in total, scoring four goals. The Belgian came through the academy at Anderlecht in his homeland, featuring 29 times for the senior team before joining German side Koln in August 2019. Bornauw played 57 games for Koln before signing for Wolfsburg in 2021. He has been capped four times by the Belgian senior side after making his debut in October 2020. Leeds have also been targeting a left-back signing, with Lille's Gabriel Gudmundsson of interest. The Athletic reported earlier this month that Leeds have made a bid for Fulham striker Rodrigo Muniz. An initial offer of £26million ($34.9m) plus £6m ($8.1m) in add-ons was rejected earlier in the window. Analysis from German football correspondent Sebastian Stafford-Bloor Bornauw had a terrible time with injury in 2024-25 and much like VfL's season as a whole, just couldn't seem to gain any momentum or confidence; he played fewer than 800 Bundesliga minutes. With the squad in transition and now, after the sacking of Ralph Hasenhuttl, under new management, it's not a surprise that — with a year left on his contract — he's likely to leave. Look beyond Bornauw's recent injury difficulties, though. Fit and healthy, he is an obelisk-like centre-back. Not fancy, not likely to carry the ball past a pressing attacker or arrow a perfect ball onto a winger's instep from 50 yards, but a cornerstone piece who seems to enjoy the physical aspects of the game and should have few issues competing in Premier League penalty boxes.
