Defending champions MI Cape Town get their title defence underway with a blockbuster clash against Durban's Super Giants on Friday, December 26, 2025 at the picturesque Newlands, as SA20 announced its fixtures for Season 4. South Africa's premier franchise T20 league will usher in the holiday season with a bumper Boxing Day opener, promising high-octane action that's set to thrill fans across India, South Africa, and around the world. Defending champions MI Cape Town will kickstart season 4 of the SA20(SA20)
December 27, Saturday, marks the first double-header of Season 4, with Centurion hosting a special derby between Pretoria Capitals and Joburg Super Kings while Paarl Royals and Sunrisers Eastern Cape clash at Boland Park in Paarl. Kingsmead, home of Durban's Super Giants, will be a hive of activity in the week leading up to the New Year, with the east coast venue welcoming both MI Cape Town (December 28) and Joburg Super Kings (30 December) within the space of a couple of days.
Fans will have the opportunity to toast in the New Year in style with another cracking double-header set for Gqeberha and Cape Town on December 31, 2025. Two-time champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape will welcome the Paarl Royals at an always-jovial St. George's Park, with the excitement building up for MI Cape Town and Pretoria Capitals at Newlands later in the day (2100 hrs IST).
The festivities will continue on New Year's Day when Joburg Super Kings and Durban's Super Giants look to start 2026 on a high note at the Wanderers.
'Announcing the fixtures is always a major milestone for us and signals that we are well on our way to another incredible season. Season 4 of the SA20 will be unique. We have carefully planned the fixtures to make the most of the festive season and school holidays. We want SA20 to be a part of the holiday season festivities in our once-off window for this year. We're also excited to host New Year's Eve and New Year's Day fixtures for the first time, we can't wait to be a part of the New Year's celebrations with the fans,' League Commissioner, Graeme Smith said.
Elaborating on the reception SA20 has received in India, he explained, 'It's been phenomenal to witness how SA20 has struck a chord with fans in a vibrant cricket market like India. What's truly heart-warming is seeing Indian fans follow emerging SA20 talents like Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Wiaan Mulder, and many others who've honed their skills in the competition. India remains a key market for SA20, and we'd love to see more fans travel to South Africa for the matches. They certainly won't be disappointed.'
'The franchises are hard at work behind the scenes strategising around their squads which will be confirmed at the auction on September 9. It's all systems go to welcome the best international and local players to our stage.'
The action continues on January 2nd, 2026, which will be celebrated in style at Boland Park with a mouth-watering Cape derby between Paarl Royals and neighbours MI Cape Town.
Paarl Royals will be looking to continue their impressive record at home, after winning all five of their home matches last season. Incredibly, MI Cape Town achieved the same feat at Newlands in the same season. The SA20 carnival moves up north to the Highveld for a 'Super Saturday' double bout on 3 January when Joburg Super Kings and Sunrisers Eastern Cape trade punches at the Wanderers before Pretoria Capitals and Durban's Super Giants go head-to-head at Centurion.
The final of the competition will take place on 25 January, with Qualifier 1 scheduled for January 21, the Eliminator on January 22 and Qualifier 2 on January 23. Venues for the Final and the Playoffs will be confirmed on a later date.

The beauty and quirks of being Mohammed Siraj

The fifth India vs England Test at the Oval is Mohammed Siraj's 41st for India. He has been a skilful, courageous, tireless and passionate bowler for India across these 41 Tests. Siraj came into Test cricket at the end of 2020, debuting in India's stirring Border-Gavaskar Trophy win in Australia. At the time he emerged, he looked like the natural successor in what had become a great Indian pace attack. From 2018 onwards, India had Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma forming a terrific trio, with Umesh Yadav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar having had their moments too. But three years on, age and form were catching up with a few of them. That is when Siraj entered the scene, and made rapid strides in international cricket. For someone joining an illustrious band of pacers, a quirky stat has emerged about Siraj: his bowling stats with Bumrah in the team versus without. You would normally assume that the presence of a champion like Bumrah lifts the rest of the attack, because the opposition will find themselves in weaker situations when he's around. However, in 25 Tests alongside Bumrah, Siraj has taken 74 wickets at an average of 35.00, and a strike rate of 57.3. In 16 Tests without Bumrah - including the ongoing fifth Test vs England - Siraj has 44 wickets at 25.6, and a strike rate of 45.2. When both Bumrah and Shami are not there, Siraj has 38 wickets in 13 Tests, averaging 23.1 and striking at 41.8 - absolutely elite numbers. There is no cricketing reason. There could be a psychological reason. Perhaps Siraj thrives when he has to step up as the main man, and discovers a new layer in his game. He has the ability to bowl the magic ball that swings sharply at pace or seams wickedly. But when he has to be the leader of the attack, he seems to find consistency too.. Essentially, it is what Bumrah does. Bumrah's magic balls are the ones that stick in memory, but the pressure he builds is by bowling in the channel and at the lengths that batsmen find most awkward. In Bumrah's absence, Siraj dons that mantle. 'When I get responsibility, I feel very proud. When you are the leader of the attack for your country, it feels very good. And performing in that situation makes me feel really good,' Siraj had reflected during this England series, when the stat was put to him. But eventually, these numbers are more of a curiosity than a pattern. The number that should be focused on with Siraj is more concrete. Since his debut on Boxing Day in 2020, no Indian pacer has bowled more balls than Siraj has. He has sent down 6238 balls, and remarkably, each of those has been bowled with the same intensity. Some might have been bowled with greater control, some with greater nous - but there has been no lack of effort from Ball 1 to Ball 6238. Worldwide, Siraj has the fifth highest workload of all among pacers since his debut. Only Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Tim Southee and James Anderson have bowled more in Tests - and two of them are now retired. And no Indian has played more than the 41 Tests Siraj has played in that time period. He has combined that with 43 ODIs, and 13 T20Is, not to forget a full IPL season every year. It's a workload that is heavier than almost anyone else in international cricket. It's a tribute to Siraj's fitness, his natural strength, his will - and the fluidity of his action too. Without any of these, it would have been impossible to shoulder the kind of burden he has. All of these qualities were on show on Day 2 of the fifth Test. England had the perfect morning, bowling India out in a jiffy and then seeing Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley blast runs. At lunch, England were 109 for 1 in 16 overs. The second session is what turned things around for India, and the heart of that turnaround was an eight-over spell by Siraj during which he took out Ollie Pope, Joe Root and Jacob Bethel. Siraj showed what a handful he could be when his rhythm was right, he bowled some beautiful deliveries without losing his lengths, and he did it for a very long spell. If he can bottle that rhythm and consistency and deploy it more often, India could see some very special moments from Siraj.

Rishabh Pant arrives at Old Trafford on crutches as India fight for survival, suspense around him batting deepens

The mystery around Rishabh Pant batting on the final day of the Manchester Test deepened after the wicketkeeper-batter arrived at Old Trafford on crutches. The southpaw arrived at the venue one hour after play resumed on Day 5 of the fourth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. India's batting coach Sitanshu Kotak had earlier confirmed that the left-handed batter would come out in the middle on the final day as India look to survive and play out a draw. Rishabh Pant arrived at Old Trafford on crutches on the final day of the Manchester Test(Lucknow Super Giants - X) However, Pant's arrival at the stadium on crutches leaves a lot of ambiguity, and one needs to wait to see whether Pant comes out to bat if the need arises. Rishabh Pant was also spotted wearing a moon boot as he entered the stadium to watch his teammates fight it out and grind it out in the middle as they look to keep England at bay. The Indian vice-captain got hit on his foot after he inside-edged a reverse sweep onto his foot off the bowling of Chris Woakes on Day 1 of the Manchester Test. He was batting on 37 when the incident happened. Pant was in immediate pain, and there was bleeding and swelling. After being treated by the physios on the field, the batter walked off in a gold-cart-like vehicle. He then went for subsequent scans, and the reports revealed a fractured toe. Also Read: 'Rishabh Pant has only himself to blame': Geoffrey Boycott's scathing remark on India star's 'silly' shot for injury Pant has now been advised six weeks of rest and has been ruled out of the final Test at the Oval, London. Earlier, Pant had resumed his innings on Day 2 as he came out to the middle even with a fractured foot. He scored a half-century before being dismissed by Jofra Archer. India fight for survival Shubman Gill and KL Rahul resumed India's fight for survival on Day 5 of the Manchester Test. The 188-run stand between the two finally came to an end in the 71st over as Ben Stokes stood up for England, dismissing Rahul for 90. Shubman Gill then brought up his century, his fourth of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. However, right on the cusp of the lunch break, he lost his wicket to Jofra Archer for 103 runs. At Lunch break on Day 5, India's score read 223/4, still trailing the hosts by 88 runs. Rain is expected to play spoilsport on the final day and the Indian camp would hope for heavens to open up and offer some respite. On the other hand, England would look to bowl the full quota of overs as they try to win in Manchester to take an unassailable lead in the series.
