The US drayage market seems to be rebalancing for the rest of 2025, and that can create a positive shift in the shipping industry, ITS Logistics said. The US drayage market saw a 1.8-per cent MoM rise in June imports, a notable contrast to typical mid-summer trends. A mixed performance highlights ongoing shifts in port routing and regional demand as tariff volatility continues to shape the market.

The top gateways for Chinese imports, particularly the Port of Los Angeles, also saw major volume increases, while East Coast and secondary ports experienced significant declines in activity.
The mixed performance highlights ongoing shifts in port routing and regional demand as tariff volatility continues to shape the national drayage market, a release from the company said.
'Ultimately, the full economic effects of recent tariffs are beginning to manifest, with potential disruptions in trade flows and increased costs for businesses and consumers,' said Josh Allen, chief commercial officer at ITS Logistics, said in a company release.
'This comes just as the industry prepares to combat hurricane season and the trucking market continues to see marginal shifts in both spot and contract rates during peak season,' he added.
Although much of the industry is experiencing supply chain disruptions of significant magnitude, whether due to administrative decisions from the White House with tariffs or the intensifying hurricane season, the warehousing market shows a glimpse of hope for change.
The producer price index for warehousing and storage declined 1.4 per cent from May's 155.4 to 153.1 in June 2025, marking a continued downtrend from March and signaling reduced pricing leverage for warehousing providers.

US-China trade talks end without deal as tariff deadline nears
Trade talks between the United States and China ended on Tuesday without a deal to extend a temporary pause on steep tariffs, raising concerns that high duties could return from 12 August. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Trade Ambassador Jamieson Greer met Chinese officials in Stockholm over two days to discuss the way forward, but no agreement was reached. The talks were described as 'constructive' by both sides, and officials said discussions would continue. Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Bessent said: 'We just haven't been given that signoff.' He added that President Donald Trump would have to make the final decision on whether to extend the current truce. 'The meetings were very productive,' Bessent said, according to CNN. Greer echoed that view, saying: 'With respect to a potential pause, we're going to head back to Washington, DC, and we're going to talk to the president about whether that's something that he wants to do. It's certainly something that's under discussion.' Without a deal, the United States and China could reinstate heavy tariffs that were previously in place before the current 90-day pause. Greer told CNN that tariffs on Chinese goods could rise by around 34 percent, although still below the peak rate of 145 percent seen earlier. In May, China had lowered tariffs on American goods from 125 percent to 10 percent, while the US reduced its tariffs on Chinese goods from 145 percent to 30 percent. China's International Trade Representative, Li Chenggang, said both countries would 'continue to push for the scheduled extension,' according to Chinese state broadcaster CCTV. However, Bessent disputed the suggestion that anything had been finalised. 'The Chinese deputy minister did say that we had agreed on a pause. We have not. Nothing is agreed until we speak with President Trump,' he said, as quoted by CNN. Greer also clarified that 'the president has discretion to change the rate depending on the circumstances that we have.' Speaking separately aboard Air Force One, President Trump told reporters he had just spoken with Bessent, who reported 'a very good meeting with China.' Trump added, 'He felt very good about the meeting, better than he felt yesterday,' according to Reuters. Trump also said he expects to be briefed on the talks on Wednesday and would then decide whether to extend the tariff pause. He said he hoped to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping before the end of the year. When asked about a possible trade deal with India, Trump said no agreement had been reached. He added, 'India has higher tariffs than almost any country,' Reuters reported. As of now, no breakthrough has been made, and both sides remain under pressure to find a solution before the mid-August deadline.

Billionaire Elon Musk-led satellite communications company Starlink will be limited to a maximum of 20 lakh connections in India, Union Minister Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar said on Monday, downplaying concerns over its impact on state-run BSNL and other telecom operators. The Minister of State for Telecom made the remarks while speaking on the sidelines of a BSNL review meeting. 'Starlink can have only 20 lakh customers in India and offer up to 200 Mbps speed. That won't affect telecom services,' the minister said. What Will Satcom Services Do? Satcom services are expected to target rural and remote areas where BSNL is known to have a significant presence..A government official mentioned that the limit on Starlink connections is due to its existing capacity. The minister said that the upfront cost for satcom services will be too high and the monthly cost may be around Rs 3,000. The minister also said that BSNL 4G rollout is complete and it does not plan to increase tariffs as of now. 'We want market first. There are no tariff hikes planned,' he said. What Minister Said On BSNL Future Plans? The minister said that BSNL has seen a 20-30 per cent increase in revenue in the first quarter of the current fiscal year due to the rollout of 4G services and technology is settling down. 'Earlier, there were some technical issues but over 90 per cent of them have been sorted out. There were issues around power stations. 30,000 power stations have been replaced with an expenditure of around Rs 600-700 crore,' Pemmasani said, adding that improvement in power supplies has resulted in higher uptime for BSNL networks and enhanced customer's experience. 'Each circle is being given individual targets in terms of increasing subscriber base,' he said, adding that BSNL has had a lot of legacy issues that are being resolved now. When asked about the status of Chinese equipment in BSNL, the minister said that the government plans to continue using indigenous technologies in the state-run firm and it will gradually phase out 2G and 3G equipment and do away with the need for maintenance of that equipment.
