Iraq's oil exports to India decline by 4%

Baghdad ( – Official figures indicated on Saturday that Iraqi crude oil supplies to India fell by four percent in the first half of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024. From January to June 2025, Iraq's crude oil shipments to India averaged 860,000 barrels per day, compared to 900,000 barrels per day in 2024, Shafaq News reported. Russia remained the top supplier of crude oil to India, with 1.67 million barrels per day, followed by Iraq and Saudi Arabia. India's imports of Iraqi oil fell by 28,000 barrels per day, decreasing from 959,000 barrels per day in May 2024 to 931,000 barrels per day. In early 2025, Indian refineries switched to non-Russian oil after the government informed them about US sanctions weeks before they were publicized. China and India continue to be major importers of Iraqi oil during May, according to customs data analysis from the two countries. Last month, China's imports of Iraqi oil grew by more than 22,000 barrels per day on an annual basis, to 1.11 million barrels per day, compared to 1.08 million barrels per day in the same month in 2024. During the first five months of 2025, Iraq's crude oil exports averaged approximately 3.33 million barrels per day, compared to 3.45 million barrels per day during the same period in 2024. President Barzani: Salary resolution benefits all Iraqis

Shafaq News – Baghdad/Erbil On Sunday, Kudish President Nechirvan Barzani stated that a comprehensive solution to the salary crisis would benefit all Iraqis, urging continued legal dialogue and mutual understanding, according to a statement. Barzani further expressed optimism about efforts to establish a 'roadmap' for resolving outstanding issues with Baghdad, emphasizing the need for constitutional cooperation and depoliticized handling of salary payments as a "national priority". The statement follows agreement between Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani and Barzani on initial steps to address the Region's salary crisis. "Viable proposals were identified, and Parliament will support any agreement that ensures consistent salary distribution through coordination with the executive branch," al-Mashhadani added. Earlier in the day, the federal delegation held meetings with Kurdish Leader Masoud Barzani and Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, who both reiterated the importance of separating salary disbursement from political disputes and urged the federal government to take tangible action. Salary payments remain a core dispute between Baghdad and Erbil, alongside broader disagreements over oil revenues, constitutional authority, and federal budget allocations. The Kurdistan Regional Government maintains it has fulfilled its obligations—exporting crude via the state-run SOMO company and transferring proceeds to the federal treasury—while accusing Baghdad of withholding salaries in violation of prior agreements.

$250M monthly oil trade: Kurdistan pushes for federal revenue deal

Shafaq News – Al-Sulaymaniyah Kurdistan's domestic trade in oil products is valued at approximately $250M per month, a senior Kurdish official said on Sunday, urging Baghdad to finalize a revenue-sharing mechanism to resolve longstanding salary disputes. Ali Hama Saleh, rapporteur of the National Stance Movement in Kurdistan, proposed that the federal government pay $16 per barrel to companies operating in the Region. "Federal authorities have expressed readiness to provide Kurdistan with refined fuels, including gasoline, under the same conditions as other provinces," he claimed, describing the move a 'golden opportunity' to guarantee public-sector salary payments. In response, the Kurdistan Regional Government is pushing to retain 100,000 barrels per day to meet local demand and integrate more closely into Iraq's national fuel supply chain. Last week, the KRG renewed calls for Baghdad to release public salaries, accusing the federal government of maintaining a 'policy of deprivation' despite regional compliance with national directives. Baghdad and Erbil have long been at odds over oil revenue management. While the Kurdistan Region previously exported crude independently, recent legal and financial pressures have pushed it to coordinate more closely with the federal government, particularly through Iraq's state-run oil marketing company, SOMO.
