Monsoon session of Madhya Pradesh Assembly set to begin tomorrow
With a packed 12-day calendar comprising 10 sittings, the session is poised to witness pointed debates on pressing issues as the opposition prepares to challenge the government over the power crisis, rising inflation, transfer policies, and farmers' grievances, including fertiliser shortage in various areas.
According to Principal Secretary AP Singh, the Assembly Secretariat has received a total of 3,377 questions—1,718 starred and 1,659 unstarred—many submitted online, reflecting increased digital engagement by legislators. In addition, members have filed 226 call attention motions, one adjournment motion, 23 private resolutions, 65 Zero Hour notices, and a single Rule 139 notice.
The government plans to introduce three Bills during the session.
Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar, after inspecting the Assembly premises on Sunday, emphasised that arrangements had been made for smooth and orderly conduct. 'No new restrictions have been imposed,' he stated, referring to recent directives prohibiting protests and sloganeering within the Assembly precincts—an order that has been sharply criticised by the opposition Congress party as an attempt to suppress democratic dissent.
The Speaker declined to comment on specific limitations regarding access within the premises.
Political dynamics are expected to intensify as opposition parties sharpen their strategy to hold the ruling establishment accountable on key governance challenges. In response, the government has readied its counter-narrative, highlighting its schemes and achievements.
Betul MLA Hemant Khandelwal, recently appointed as the new state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party, will occupy a seat in the front row—symbolising his elevated role in both party and legislative affairs.
Security protocols have also been tightened. The Assembly Secretariat has issued a directive barring unauthorised entry into the premises and lobby areas, warning members against bringing individuals without prior permission, either on foot or by vehicle.
As the session opens, all eyes will be on the evolving battle of narratives between the treasury and opposition benches, with issues of governance, accountability, and public welfare taking centre stage.

Bihar draft electoral roll: No demands yet to add or drop names, says EC
As Bihar prepares for the Assembly election in 2025, the Election Commission (EC) on Sunday said that no political party has so far approached it to request any changes—either additions or deletions—to the draft electoral roll released on 1 August. Between 3 pm on 1 August and 3 pm on 3 August, the EC said it did not receive any official requests from political parties under the claims and objections process. However, over 3,200 first-time voters applied for inclusion during this period. 'No booth-level agent (BLA) of any political party has submitted a single case to booth-level officers (BLOs) in the past 24 hours, despite all BLAs having agreed to carefully review the boothwise draft lists shared with them on 1 August,' the EC said. However, individual voters have started to respond. The commission confirmed that 941 claims and objections have been submitted so far by citizens. These include requests to add names to the list and to remove names that voters believe are incorrect or ineligible. Political parties and the general public still have time to submit their requests. The voter list is being updated through a process called Special Intensive Revision (SIR). It is part of the EC's regular effort to ensure that the electoral roll is accurate before upcoming elections. Recently, some opposition parties have criticised the EC, claiming that the ongoing revision could leave out many eligible voters due to document-related issues. Parties have also alleged that this may affect crores of people, especially those from poor or marginalised backgrounds. In response, the Election Commission has assured the public that no eligible voter will be left out. Officials have said they are taking every step to ensure that the final voter list is fair and complete. The EC also reminded people that the draft roll is open for public review, and encouraged both voters and political parties to take part in the process.

Congress seeks CEO's help to dig out old letter
Ahead of Congress party's planned protest on August 5 over alleged manipulation of electoral rolls in Bengaluru's Mahadevapura constituency, former minister H Nagesh has written to the Chief Electoral Officer, Karnataka seeking copy of a complaint he claims was submitted in April 2023, accusing forged entries in voters' the CEO's office has denied receiving any such a letter dated July 31, Nagesh stated, "We had earlier during April 2023 submitted a list containing details of alleged forged entries in the voters list pertaining to our constituency 174-Mahadevapura. This issue is of grave concern as it affects the transparency and fairness of the electoral process." He admitted that Congress did not have a copy of the submitted document."We have misplaced the list of documents. We do not have a copy of the submitted document for our records. We kindly request you to share a copy of the document which we had submitted," he said. Responding to this, Joint Chief Electoral Officer Yogeshwar S, in a letter dated August 2, wrote: "With reference to your letter dated 31st July 2025, I am hereby directed to inform you that this office does not have records of any such letter received from you during April 2023 on the issue of electoral rolls with a list containing details of alleged forged entries in the voters list pertaining to 174-Mahadevapura Assembly Constituency, which you have suddenly raised now." The official added that a certified copy of the electoral roll was made available to all candidates, including Nagesh, during the election, and is also accessible pointed out that no legal remedy had been pursued by Nagesh under the Representation of the People Act, stating, "Since then, you have not filed any election petition with respect to 174-Mahadevapura Assembly Constituency as per Section 80 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, nor any appeal to either the first appellate authority or second appellate authority against entries in the electoral rolls published in 2023 as per Section 24 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950." The Congress party has announced a protest in Bengaluru on Monday against what it calls large-scale electoral fraud. Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi is expected to take part in the demonstration. Party leaders allege that thousands of bogus names were added and genuine voters deleted to influence the outcome in Mahadevapura and other constituencies during the 2023 Assembly elections.
