Jake Paul fight predictions as YouTuber takes on Julio Cesar Chavez Jr

Daily Mirror5 hours ago

With just over a day to go until both Paul and Chavez Jr go head-to-head in the ring, many have offered their predictions for the cruiserweight showdown
Ahead of Jake Paul 's blockbuster showdown with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, many big names have weighed in and offered their prediction for the dust-up.
The pair are scheduled to go head-to-head in a cruiserweight showdown on Saturday night in Anaheim. Paul has not fought since defeating boxing legend Mike Tyson back in November. Despite failing to get the knockout, the YouTuber-turned-boxer scored a convincing victory on points.
Chavez Jr ended a three years hiatus last July when he defeated former UFC star Uriah Hall. With over 60 professional bouts to his name, Chavez Jr has faced some big names in the sport of boxing, including Andy Lee, Canelo Alvarez and Daniel Jacobs. The 39-year-old is confident he can get the job done on fight night - but knows he is in for a tough night at the office.
With just one more sleep until the clash, several names within the sport of boxing have given their official predictions for the cruiserweight contest. Speaking on his YouTube channel THE FIGHT, legendary trainer-turned-analyst Teddy Atlas gave one final insight. 'Yes he's [Chavez Jr] a former world champion, he earned that, he earned that himself, that's not from the father, but a lot of it is the father's name at this point," he said.
"And with all the inactivity, all the lifestyle issues, everything else, I don't see Chavez winning, and with his past performances, you said it bud, he beat [Uriah] Hall, Hall was very competitive with him, I give credit to Hall, Hall looked pretty damn good I was impressed with the boxing ability of Hall who wasn't a boxer. Paul's gonna beat him. Paul doesn't pick guys so he'll look stupid, he picks guys so he can sell it, he picks guys that do have the chance to give some entertainment element and some competitive element, but all of these elements are picked to be in favour of Paul, again, what are you gonna do, get mad at him?
'For doing what anyone out there would do if they had the opportunity or the ability or the guts because it does take guts to put yourself out there the way Paul does, I don't care if you hate him or like him, it does. I don't care if you like what I'm saying or don't like what I'm saying because I'm saying what needs to be said, not based on any biases, not based on anything other than what the facts tell me. So, I like Paul to win the fight, I think it'll go the distance.'
Boxing legend Timothy Bradley Jr also offered his opinion for the clash and is also backing Paul to win, stating: "I believe the difference in experience, Chavez's natural feel for the ring against Paul's ruthless, undeniable drive to prove himself could be the subtle decider of who wins So, can Chavez beat Paul? Absolutely. But I don't think he will."
Another boxing great, Shawn Porter, offered a short and snappy prediction and believes Paul will get his hand raised. Speaking on The Porter Way Podcast, he said: 'I got Jake Paul by KO.' Roy Jones Jr will be a keen viewer this weekend and is also tipping the 'Problem Child' to win. In an interview with Slingo, he said: 'They know that he [Jake] beat Anderson Silva, and Anderson beat Chavez. So if he beat Chavez and Jake beat him, why should we think Jake won't beat Chavez? Styles make fights.
'People love bad losses or big money. Money is one thing, bad losing and a guy getting upset is another – people want to see that. It's intriguing, because we never know which Julio Chavez Jr will show up … I don't know if he takes it seriously any more. I think this is just a money grab for him, but if he came out and tried, he is capable of beating anybody. He was a pretty good boxer, he can upset anybody, if he comes out and tries, but he has done nothing lately to make the American public think that he is going to come out and try. I think Jake stops him in the fifth or the sixth round.'
One individual who is fully backing Chavez Jr is fellow countryman, Canelo Alvarez. In an interview with Seconds Out, 'Saul' said: "Yeah [Chavez can win]. I obviously support Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. I hope he wins. [If] he prepares himself really good and takes it seriously he beats him.'
Two-time world champion Jose Luis Castillo called Paul a 'four-to-six round boxer' and advised Chavez Jr to 'use his savvy' to take down the social media star. In an interview with El Cinch, he revealed: 'Well, Jake Paul is basically a four- or six-round boxer. Julio has the experience; he hits hard. He's been knocked down, but he can take it.
'What he has to do is box a little smart and use his savvy. The longer the fight goes, the more it favors Julio. Maybe Julio's experience is what will help him pull through if he prepares well. A win for Chávez Jr. over Jake Paul would be like a gold bar falling in his lap. It would reopen doors for him in the boxing world.'
Former two-time heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury recently picked his side ahead of the upcoming contest. 'Get up there, viva Mexico! All the best boys, I hope the training has gone well, and I hope Chavez is doing good," he said. "Can't do any more than train your b******s off in the gym and put the work in and go in there and get the job done. Man's a former WBC middleweight world champion, son of a legend, so he can do his best, that it, do your best, put on a show, go in there and get paid and get put of there, that's what I say. All the best, good luck.'

Boxing tonight: Live stream, ringwalk times and fight card as Jake Paul returns

Jake Paul will return to the ring on Saturday night, seven months on from his unanimous decision win over heavyweight icon Mike Tyson, and here's how you can watch Jake Paul returns to the ring this Saturday to fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, in his first boxing bout since his controversial clash with Mike Tyson last November. The American fighter has gone 11-1 in professional boxing since making his debut in 2020 against fellow YouTuber AnEsonGib. Since then, Paul has fought a host of famous faces, including Nate Diaz, Tommy Fury, Tyron Woodley and most recently, Iron Mike. ‌ The 28-year-old has had a mixed reaction from the boxing community throughout his short fighting career, especially due to his controversial bout with 58-year-old Tyson. ‌ Although he won via unanimous decision, the YouTuber-turned-boxer admitted that he held back in the fight against the former undisputed heavyweight world champion. Now, Paul will face another ex-champion in the form of Chavez Jr, who is the son of boxing icon Julio Cesar Sr. The 39-year-old boasts a 54-6-1 boxing record and held the WBC middleweight title from 2011 to 2012. Recently, Chavez Jr improved to 54 wins after a unanimous decision victory over UFC star Uriah Hall. His last loss came in June 2021, when the boxer suffered a surprising decision loss to mixed martial arts legend Anderson Silva. A win for Chavez Jr. would improve his record to 55 wins and see the Problem Child receive his first loss since February 2023, when Fury won via split decision in Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, a victory for Paul would grow his record to 12-1, with his reputation in the boxing community only able to improve after his heavily criticised triumph over the aging Tyson. What time does Jake Paul vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jrstart? ‌ Paul is set to take on Chavez Jr on Saturday night at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. The event will kick off at 1am UK time on Sunday morning, with the undercards to take place ahead of the big fight of the evening. Paul and Chavez Jr's ring walks are set for 4am UK time, with the fight taking place shortly after these have concluded. However, these timings could be subject to change, as they depend on how long the undercard bouts take before the main event kicks off. The event is priced at £24.99 in the UK, and can be secured via a DAZN subscription. ‌ Plans start at £14.99 a month on the subscription service, but pay-per-view bundles are also available for a special price of £39.99. When I beat this man, all the boxing media, like you always do, are going to discredit it. I'm going to expose and embarrass him. He's the embarrassment of Mexico. Mexico doesn't even claim him, and he's going to get exposed on June 28. "They say he's training hard. They say this is the most focused he's ever been. Good. As he should be. People don't realize how good I actually am, and when he feels those first few punches, he's going to want to quit and go back to his stool." Julio Cesar Chavez Jr: "Jake is crazy. I think he's overrated. He hasn't fought anybody in his life. On June 28th, he's going to see what's up. To start off, he's never knocked anybody out. "Give me one name he's knocked out, just one. It's like if I fought with my dad. It's going to be a good fight. When he was born, I was already a champ."

‘The people of Armagh have been paying my rent this last year': Viral singer opens up on beating cancer and becoming music legend in GAA scene

They say a lot can happen in a year, and south Armagh man Paul Loughran is the perfect testament to that. From being diagnosed with testicular cancer, to writing his county's most prolific GAA anthem, and then travelling the world based on his band's viral sensations — Paul is the ideal example of optimism, hard work and resilience. He makes up one-third of local folk group Plenty in the Tank, whose song 'G Stands For Geezer' became the theme tune for Armagh GAA's run to only their second All-Ireland win in 2024. Named aptly after the manager of the senior men's Gaelic football team, Kieran McGeeney — aka 'Geezer' — the song hit number 20 in the official Irish Singles Chart last August following the final. The song now has well over two million streams on the music platform Spotify, and it's picking up even more traction, now that Armagh are in the quarter-finals of the championship this weekend. Paul wrote the song, which he says has completely changed his life, but just a few months previous, he had received another life-changing announcement. 'I was diagnosed with stage two bilateral testicular cancer in early November 2023, which means I had cancer on both sides, and I had surgeries at the end of November and then that January (2024),' the 29-year-old explained. 'I then had a full month of chemo and got the all-clear in March. I think I left the cancer centre on March 14th or 15th, and then I went back to gigging again on St Paddy's Day, just a few days later. 'I had a sort of serious turnaround. Like, especially coming out of that [cancer treatment], I had no money whatsoever. 'I spent all my savings on just being alive for that couple of months, basically, and paying my bills and stuff.' What the Belleeks clubman didn't then realise, was that just a short while later, his fellow Armagh GAA fans would be helping sort out his bills. 'G Stands For Geezer' was created just a few weeks before Armagh went up against Galway in the All-Ireland final last July, with Paul dedicating one day in his bedroom to writing it and to say it took off instantly would be an understatement. 'I posted it on TikTok on a Wednesday afternoon and a couple of hours later it had a quarter of a million views,' he added. 'It was one of the first TikTok videos I ever posted and the reaction was absolutely mental.' Paul is even more grateful to the Armagh team for actually winning the Sam Maguire after it all, as the entire whirlwind has opened up more opportunities than ever before for Plenty In The Tank. 'We got to go to New York there with the team for a Q&A thing, we got to play in Manhattan, which was unbelievable, and then we got to go out to Abu Dhabi and Dubai there for Paddy's week,' said Paul. 'So we've got to get out into the world and do gigs, in places we'd obviously never have been gigging in before, and better still, we're still getting gigs from it; the amount of weddings we've been booked for just for people around Armagh — we're flat out.' The song has been getting around 10,000 streams a day since its release last summer, and that's on average, levelled out. It has been picking up again since the championship started this year, and as Armagh continue to get closer to an elusive second consecutive Sam Maguire trophy, Paul said the views and listens are increasingly climbing. He continued: 'I remember we were celebrating with the boys [Armagh team] over in New York, and they were all like: 'this is mental, and thank you for writing that song' or whatever. 'And I was saying, 'no, thank you for winning!' 'Because it wouldn't have been anywhere near as big as it was if we just got beaten in the final].' Reflecting on the last 12 months — beating cancer, extensive success and having their band be forever etched in GAA history - Paul noted that 'it was honestly the best year of my life'. He has also been able to give back to those who helped him, with Plenty In The Tank raising £2,000 for two charities — Friends of the Cancer Centre and Musicians NI. 'And now, I've been running for six weeks. I've signed up for the Belfast Half Marathon to try and raise a bit more money for Friends of the Cancer Centre. So, I'm trying my best to give back to them,' he said. 'The people of Armagh are absolute legends. I'm sorry to offend, but they're the absolute best fan base in the world, out of any sport, in any country. 'Thanks an absolute million to anybody that ever streamed or clicked on any videos that had 'G Stands For Geezer' on it — because you are still paying my rent.'

Pimblett one fight from title shot

Britain's Paddy Pimblett is "one fight away" from securing a title shot, says former featherweight champion Ilia is eighth in the UFC's lightweight rankings after securing the biggest win of his career with a dominant win over Michael Chandler in month 30-year-old Pimblett said he was targeting a fight next against Topuria or Justin Gaethje in Abu Dhabi in who faces Brazil's Charles Oliveira for the lightweight belt at UFC 317 in Las Vegas on Saturday, is open to fighting Pimblett if he beats someone else first."I see that fight happening. He has to be ready because he doesn't make those kind of decisions. It's me who decides when, where and against who," Topuria told BBC Sport. "The only thing I can tell him is 'be ready'. Whenever you get the call you show up, you do your thing, you get your money, you go back home."He's one fight away from the title shot. So if he gets that win of course we are going to have that fight and I'm gonna whoop his ass."Topuria has history with Pimblett after the pair clashed at a hotel before UFC London in the pair in different weight divisions, it looked like a fight may never materialise, but that changed when Topuria vacated his featherweight title this year to move up to lightweight. 'I had to almost kill myself to make 145lb' Topuria, 28, has won the first 16 fights of his career and had a remarkable 2024, knocking out Alexander Volkanovski to win the featherweight title last meant Topuria, who holds Georgian citizenship, became Spain's first UFC champion, before he was granted Spanish citizenship by President Pedro knocked out another former champion in Max Holloway in October, before vacating the belt in April to move up to his success at featherweight, Topuria says the decision to move up was based on the toll the division was having on his physical health."I really belong to this this weight class. I had to almost kill myself to make the 145lb (10st 3lb) division," said Topuria."I feel much comfortable. I feel even more powerful in this weight division."And this is actually the first time I have been able to enjoy the whole process like the training - even the weight cut - because it's much much easier."From one to 10, at featherweight when I was fighting at this point I was feeling at five. And now I feel at nine." The title opportunity arose after it was announced champion Islam Makhachev would be vacating his belt to move up to champion Oliveira is second in the UFC lightweight rankings and holds a number of records in the promotion, including most finishes with 20 and most submissions with Volkanovski and Holloway, 35-year-old Oliveira is one of the most popular fighters on the roster, meaning Topuria may find himself in the familiar position of fans rooting against him."I can't feel like the bad guy because this is nothing personal. I don't have anything personal against them," said Topuria."This is sport. We compete and I hope that the best wins. I truly believe that I'm the best."
