Actor Vinayakan's social media post invites backlash
The Ernakulam district president of the Youth Congress has lodged a complaint with the State Police Chief against actor Vinayakan, alleging that his recent Facebook post insulted former Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan and several other prominent leaders. Incidentally, this follows Vinayakan's participation in a condolence rally in Kochi on Wednesday, where his slogan praising Mr. Achuthanandan had gone viral. This had invited comparisons by Congress-affiliated social media handles with his allegedly derogatory remarks about the late Oommen Chandy leading to a police case.

RTO detains 47 illegal school vans in MMR; imposes fines & issues show-cause notices
Mumbai: Regional Transport Office (RTO) detained and imposed fines and issued show-cause notices against 47 illegal vans and school buses after carrying out inspections of over 200 school vehicles across MMR. A number of vans were found lacking mandatory fire extinguishers and first aid boxes, carrying more students than their permitted capacity, operating without fitness certificates and not possessing valid permits. School Bus Owners Association (SBOA) president Anil Garg said that while there have been RTO drives against illegal bike taxis with 78 riders being penalised last week and the transport minister catching one such rider, similar attention towards illegal school vans was lacking. The latest action was just "the tip of an iceberg" and demanded the drive should continue as hundreds of such vans were still operating illegally and posing a risk to student safety. One incident involved two nursery students falling on the Kalyan-Badlapur road after the van's rear door opened, and another involved three students falling with the event captured on CCTV. Unauthorised vehicles operating without proper permits have increased according to Garg, who criticised the passive stance of the RTO and traffic police, raising concerns about accident accountability. Unauthorised vans and private vehicles transporting pupils have grown more than two times the number of authorised school buses. The count of regulation-compliant buses has reduced to approximately 6,000 from 8,000 in recent years, while the number of non-compliant vehicles increased to roughly 15,000 in the city. Despite repeated appeals and submission of evidence to the transport commissioner, the issue remains unresolved, said an SBOA member.

Youth Cong files plaint against Vinayakan
Kochi: Youth Congress Ernakulam district president Sijo Joseph has filed a complaint to the DGP against actor Vinayakan over his Facebook post on former chief minister V S Achuthanandan. The actor had invited criticism for the post, mentioning the death of Achuthanandan and many other functionaries using a language that is widely condemned. The complaint said Vinayakan's insult of Achuthanandan has the potential to disrupt law and order. The complaint also said the post contained derogatory remarks about Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and deceased former chief ministers K Karunakaran, Oommen Chandy and former Congress MP George Eden. Vinayakan had faced criticism for a similar Facebook post following Chandy's death, which led to a police case based on a complaint. He attended a rally in Kochi on Wednesday, condoling Achuthanandan's death and his slogan praising the communist veteran went viral on social media. Congress's cyber handles said the language Vinayakan used to describe Chandy when he died was condemnable. The latest Facebook post mentioning Achuthanandan, Chandy and others is considered as a sarcastic response to these criticisms of double standards.
