Ten years of Digital India is merely unfulfilled promises and false claims: Mallikarjun Kharge
Digital India is the flagship initiative launched by the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 1, 2015, with the "vision to transform India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy."
The government of India's 'Digital India website claims that the programme has been "improving the lives of all citizens through the digital delivery of services, expanding the digital economy and employment opportunities."
To mark the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi claimed that while decades were spent doubting the ability of Indians to use technology, his government changed this approach and trusted the ability of Indian to use technology. In a blog post on LinkedIn. Modi, among other things, said that if in 2014, India had around 25 crore internet connections, today it has grown to over 97 crore.
'From Banarasi weavers to bamboo artisans in Nagaland, sellers are now reaching customers nationwide, without middlemen or digital monopolies,' Modi said.
But, on the day, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge confronted Modi with a series of facts thereby negating the claims of the Prime Minister. The ground reality is not only in sharp contrast to what the government claimed, on top of that, the government has failed to secure the privacy of its citizens, Kharge said in a message posted on platform X.

"All the religious heads are here and they are going to talk to His Holiness, which may relate to reincarnation issues," said Tenzin Lekshay, spokesperson for the exiled government in Dharamshala, as mists and rains cloaked the Himalayan hills. On the first day of the conference, more than 100 religious figures including the senior monks will issue a declaration of gratitude to the Dalai Lama and discuss the way ahead, he said. The Dalai Lama will address them in Tibetan in a pre-recorded message but is unlikely to refer to reincarnation in that message, Lekshay said. The issue will "most probably" be covered in a written statement to be issued by the Dalai Lama late morning, he said. Another official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the written statement would refer to his reincarnation.

NEW DELHI: A parliamentary panel meeting on Rural Development and Panchayati Raj had to be postponed abruptly on Tuesday as BJP MPs boycotted its meeting in protest against the presence of activist Medha Patkar and actor-turned-activist Prakash Raj who were invited to appear before the committee. The meeting saw stormy scenes as former Union minister and BJP MP Parshottam Rupala along with other ruling party MPs stormed out with some calling Patkar as "anti-national". According to sources, a BJP MP told the meeting that 'Prime Minister of Pakistan could have been invited for the meeting." The panel, headed by Congress MP Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka was called to discuss the implementation and effectiveness of the land acquisition law enacted by Parliament when the Congress-led UPA government was in power in 2013. According to sources, within 40 minutes into the meeting, the BJP MPs began protests against the panel's decision to hear activist Medha Patkar, and called her "anti-national". While a BJP MP told this paper that they were not informed about the deposition of Medha Patkar and Prakash Raj, panel head Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka said that it is a normal practice for a committee to invite civil society members and other stakeholders on various issues.

Who is Kesavan Ramachandran? Kesavan Ramachandran has spent over three decades working in the banking industry. He specialises in currency management, Banking and Non-Banking supervision, training and administration. He also served as Principal of the Reserve Bank Staff College during his career and as the central bank nominee on the Board of Cananra Bank for more than five years. Ramachandran was also on the Auditing and Assurance Standards Board of ICAI for a period of two years. Kesavan Ramachandran's role as the Executive Director will involve overseeing the Department of Regulation (Prudential Regulation Division). RBI's public debt, elevated asset valuation concerns RBI in its Financial Stability Report for June 2025, released on Monday, 30 June 2025, said the rising public debt in the Indian economy, elevated asset valuations, and geopolitical tensions can potentially lead to fresh market shocks. 'Financial markets remain volatile, especially core government bond markets, driven by shifting policy and geopolitical environment. Alongside, existing vulnerabilities such as soaring public debt levels and elevated asset valuations have the potential to amplify fresh shocks,' said the RBI in the quarterly report. India's Budget data showed that the nation's public debt which includes internal and external debt, among other liabilities, is estimated to cross ₹196.78 lakh crore at the end of the financial year 2025-26, compared to the revised estimates of ₹181.74 lakh crore at the end of 2024-25 fiscal year.
