The arrival of summer isn't just about soaking up the sun with a drink in hand, or maximising outdoor time to enjoy the warmth - although that's certainly a bonus. For us retail writers and bargain seekers, it signals the return of one of the industry's most eagerly awaited events, Amazon Prime Day, which offers thousands of deals on a vast array of items.
Each year, the retail giant unveils a range of rather impressive discounts that make splurging on a new beauty gadget, vacuum cleaner, coffee machine, pair of trainers, or even mobile phone a bit less taxing on the wallet.
This year, Prime Day is stretching beyond a single day and, for the first time, will last 96 hours. In 2025, the four-day event will run from 00:01 on July 8, wrapping up at 11:59pm on July 11. For money-saving tips, sign up to our Money newsletter here
Echoing some of the popular deals from previous years, the shopping extravaganza will feature discounts on big-name brands such as Bose, De'Longhi, Dyson, Lego, Shark, CeraVe, Ninja, and Sonos.
What's new for 2025?
This year, Amazon is launching a new feature called 'Today's Big Deals', a dedicated page showcasing daily themes curated exclusively for Prime members. This will include limited-time 'New Deal Drop' deals that will be unveiled at midnight each day of the event.
Naturally, only Prime members will have access to these exclusive deals.
The event will also last twice as long this year, spanning four days from July 8 to July 11.
How to join Amazon Prime
Those interested in participating in the event can sign up for a free trial at amazon.co.uk/primeday without any obligation. The free trial lasts for 30 days and includes benefits such as fast and free delivery.
To continue with the service after the trial, it costs £8.99 per month or £95 per year. Young adults aged between 18-22 can enjoy all the same perks at half the price, costing just £4.49 per month or £47.49 a year.
If July 8 seems too far off, Amazon offers impressive deals throughout the year, with discounts on popular brands currently available.
Current Amazon Deals worth checking out
As we brace ourselves for the next heatwave, Amazon has slashed the price of this Bladeless Personal Fan, designed to be worn around the neck, by 33%. Reduced from £35.99 to £23.99, it's available in four different colours and features three speed settings to help you combat varying degrees of heat.
For those seeking a more permanent solution to keep cool during the warmer months, particularly when working remotely, the Dreo 42 Inch Pilot Max Smart Tower Fan, 25dB Quiet Cooling Fan is currently discounted by 20%, now priced at £127.49, down from £159.99.

This oscillating electric fan offers four distinct modes and can be operated via a remote control or the Dreo app. Touted as 'quieter than ever imagined', the fan features optimised air outlets and an ultra-wide 120-degree cooling capacity, enabling the bladeless fan to circulate refreshing coolness throughout the room.
With a stellar 4.7-star rating, customers have expressed their delight, with many stating they are 'super impressed with just how good this fan is'. One individual described the fan as a 'true game-changer in the realm of cooling solutions'.
For those willing to invest a bit more for a multifunctional fan, consider the Shark FlexBreeze Pro Mist Indoor and Outdoor Fan and Outdoor Misting System, now reduced to £219.99 from £249.99. This innovative device not only provides a cooling breeze but also sprays a mist of water, making it an ideal companion during a heatwave.
This anti-hair wrap technology removes hair from the motorised brush-roll as you clean.

Amazon Prime Day often presents excellent deals on mobile phones. However, if you're in urgent need of a bargain, Samsung's Galaxy A16 4G Android Smartphone is currently discounted by 18% for a limited time, now priced at £139, down from £169.
The phone is equipped with multiple cameras (a 50MP Main Camera, a 5MP Ultra Wide Camera for landscapes, a 2MP Macro Camera for close-ups and a 13MP Front Camera for selfies), 128GB storage, a 3-year manufacturer extended warranty and comes in three different colours.
Planning to attend a festival this year? To prevent phones, fans and other electrical devices from running out of juice, investing in a battery power bank is a wise move. This INIU 140W 27000mAh Portable Charger, usually priced at £92.98, is now available for £67.99.
Available in six different colours including red and yellow, the battery pack offers 'super fast' charging and can even accommodate larger devices such as laptops.
If you're in need of a new vacuum cleaner but reluctant to pay full price for some of the top brands Shark's Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner with Anti Hair Wrap has had £100 slashed off its price on Amazon and is now available for £179.
Featuring anti-hair wrap technology - perfect for pet owners with both long and short-haired pets - and a 40-minute runtime, this vacuum cleaner is designed with a flexology wand to reach into corners and crevices that regular devices can't access.
It also converts into a handheld vacuum for cleaning the car, stairs or sofa.
Highly praised by numerous Amazon customers, one satisfied buyer raved: "I am very impressed with my purchase. Most of my home is carpeted and previous cordless models have been pretty useless. Find this to be very good suction, easy to manoeuvre and fold. I like how it will automatically change to hard floors in kitchen and bathroom without me having to alter switches, not too heavy for me at 76 years old and can carry upstairs easily. It lasted me 45 minutes on a full charge. And a 5 year warranty included. Would highly recommended."
Another reviewer chimed in: "This is a fantastic multi-functional vacuum for your household. What you notice first is the blade type rollers rather than traditional brushes. This is quite innovative and stops long hairs clogging the system. Next the bendy arm which is pretty cool and easily enables you to reach under furniture with little bending, handy for my old knees. And finally, it converts nicely into a handheld device which is great for stairs, nooks and crannies and the car boot etc. Charging is via a simple wired adaptor with no mounting dock.
"I have found this to be a great item with long battery life and excellent "vacuuming" performance over hard and soft floors with no crevice or corner out of bounds. It is fairly easy to empty the good sized bin though storage isn't so elegant as the extra tools need to be stored separately in the bag provided but I would much rather have them than not."
Some customers felt it was a bit 'overpriced' for its features (although, this may not be the case whilst on sale). A three-star review from a user read: "The power is not very strong. It does the job, but once a month I still take me older vacuum cleaner to vacuum properly.
"It can't stand up straight when in use, but has to lean against a wall when moving items to vacuum. Not too impressed, especially if you are used to a stronger machine."
If £179 seems a bit exorbitant, VAX's Pace Cordless Vacuum Cleaner is now priced at £119.99, down from its original price of £179.99, and boasts a similar array of features to Shark's offering, including carpet and hard floor suitability, cordless operation, and a 40-minute runtime.

Amazon's Prime Days often present quite a few appealing deals on beauty and haircare items, encompassing hairdryers, straighteners, curlers, and more. However, if you need a new styler immediately, Amazon has currently discounted the Shark SpeedStyle Hair Dryer (bundled with four unique attachments) by 25%, setting the price at £134.99 instead of £179.99.

Also available at a discount are the ghd Gold Hair Straightener and Styler, now priced at £132.25, a significant reduction from the original £189. This undercuts Lookfantastic's offer of £151.20 and Boots' pricing of £154.99.

Stocks slump on latest tariffs, soft jobs data

NEW YORK, Aug 1 (Reuters) - U.S. stocks slumped on Friday, with the S&P on track for its biggest daily percentage decline in more than three months as new U.S. tariffs on dozens of trading partners and a surprisingly weak jobs report spurred selling pressure. Also weighing on equities was a tumble in (AMZN.O), opens new tab shares after the company posted quarterly results but failed to meet lofty expectations for its Amazon Web Services cloud computing unit. Just hours before the tariff deadline on Friday, President Donald Trump signed an executive order imposing duties on U.S. imports from countries, including Canada, Brazil, India and Taiwan, in his latest round of levies as countries attempted to seek ways to reach better deals. Further denting confidence in the economic picture, data showed U.S. job growth slowed more than expected in July while the prior month's report was revised sharply lower, indicating the labor market may be starting to crack. The report significantly pushed up expectations the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates at its September meeting. "There's no way to pretty-up this report. Previous months were revised significantly lower where the labor market has been on stall-speed," said Brian Jacobsen, Chief Economist at Annex Wealth Management in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. "Last year the Fed messed up by not cutting in July so they did a catch-up cut at their next meeting. They'll likely have to do the same thing this year." According to preliminary data, the S&P 500 (.SPX), opens new tab lost 101.60 points, or 1.60%, to end at 6,237.79 points, while the Nasdaq Composite (.IXIC), opens new tab lost 472.78 points, or 2.24%, to 20,649.67. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (.DJI), opens new tab fell 543.97 points, or 1.23%, to 43,587.01. Market expectations the Fed will cut rates by at least 25 basis points at its September meeting stood at 80.9%, according to CME's FedWatch Tool, opens new tab, up from 37.7% in the prior session. Other data from the Institute for Supply Management showed U.S. manufacturing contracted for a fifth straight month in July and factory employment dropped to the lowest level in five years. Both the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq recorded their biggest single-day percentage declines since April 21 and all three major indexes were on track for weekly losses. The CBOE Volatility Index (.VIX), opens new tab, also known as Wall Street's fear gauge, climbed to as much as 21.90, its highest since June 23. Amazon was the biggest drag on the Dow, S&P 500 and Nasdaq and pushed the consumer discretionary index (.SPLRCD), opens new tab, down nearly 4% as the worst performing of the 11 major S&P 500 sectors. Also reporting earnings was Apple (AAPL.O), opens new tab, which fell after it posted a current-quarter revenue forecast well above Wall Street estimates, but CEO Tim Cook warned U.S. tariffs would add $1.1 billion in costs over the period. Stocks briefly extended declines after Trump said he ordered the commissioner of the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Erika L. McEntarfer, to be fired in the wake of the jobs data. In contrast to the broad declines, Reddit (RDDT.N), opens new tab surged after it reported quarterly results that exceeded Street expectations, boosted by an AI-focused advertising strategy and strong user engagement.

Flagship smartphones are normally tricky to find for less than £1,000 - and that was the starting price for Google's Pixel 9 Pro, a handset that brought plenty of new buyers to the Pixel brand when it first started shipping in September last year. It moved the game on significantly from the relatively lacklustre Pixel 8, and the fabulous but flawed Pixel 7, and it set Google up as a serious contender in the hard-fought world of top-end telephones. Enough time has passed now, since its launch in the autumn, for the price to have taken a major tumble - but this week it's seen its biggest price drop yet. The Amazon deal is for the 128gb version, and only in Obsidian | Amazon It's now possible to pick one up for just £679, and that's for an unlocked, sim free handset, supplied by Google, and shipped through Amazon - so next-day delivery for Prime members. The Pixel 9 Pro is powered by the Tensor G4 chip and introduces Gemini Live, Google's next-gen AI assistant capable of real-time conversations and live translation. It features a 6.7-inch LTPO OLED display with up to 120Hz refresh rate, a triple rear camera system (including a 5x periscope zoom), and upgraded computational photography. The design is sleeker with a more refined camera bar, and it was one of the first phones to ship with Android 15 out of the box. It also supports seven years of updates, making it a future-proof flagship for Pixel fans. Amazon's limited-time 32% discount is on the 128gb version, and only in the Obsidian black colour. The other storage or colour options don't attract the same discount, so choose carefully at the checkout. We don't know how long this deal lasts, so if you're due an upgrade, or you've always fancied going sim free and saving a few quid every month, this might be a golden opportunity.
