
Sunderland dog owners warned of summer beach ban
Councillor Lindsey Leonard, cabinet member for environment, transport and net zero, said: "While most residents are considerate dog owners, there are still some who were in breach of the dog exclusion zones. "This resulted in us issuing 21 fixed penalty notices for dogs in [these] exclusion zones in 2024."As a council, we take great pride in our beautiful beaches and want everyone to be able to enjoy them."

Roseberry Topping warning after children caught throwing large rocks
A volunteer says he was left stunned as he watched parents ignoring their children throwing "head-sized boulders" from the top of a beauty spot and on to the footpath Henson, from Cleveland Mountain Rescue, was leading a group to the top of Roseberry Topping, a hill on the edge of the North York Moors, when he spotted the rocks being confronted the group, telling them about the potential impact of their actions and they was injured but Cleveland Mountain Rescue has issued a warning to visitors. Mr Henson said his group arrived at the top of the distinctive 1,050ft (320m) hill just before lunchtime on Tuesday."There were lots of children around and the parents of several families were ignoring their children," he said."Head-sized boulders were being thrown off the side face of the hill."A footpath runs beneath the top of the hill and climbers are known to make their way up alternative routes to the Henson, 34, confronted the group throwing rocks."I told them that their actions might have a bad impact on other people," he said.A spokesperson for Cleveland Mountain Rescue said: "Roseberry Topping is a popular location for people to visit with a chance of an incident occurring with this type of activity. Girl, 13, rescued from sea at Whitley Bay
A 13-year-old girl has been airlifted to hospital after getting into difficulty in the North RNLI was among the rescuers called to the south end of Whitley Bay beach, in North Tyneside, Crozier, who took the call from the coastguard, said a crew of six attended the scene but he understood the girl had already been recovered from the water by two shore-based Great North Air Ambulance Service arrived on the scene at 17:06 BST and worked with other emergency services to treat the teenager before transporting her to hospital. Sunderland council still reviewing Chester Road scheme feedback
Feedback on plans for a bus lane is still being reviewed, three months after a consultation on the scheme proposals, for Sunderland's Chester Road, include creating a bus lane towards the roundabout at the junction with Springwell Road and Holborn Road, instead of previously mooted traffic is part of the regional Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP), funded by the government.A council leaflet detailing the scheme said works were expected to start in the summer and would take about a year. A public consultation on the proposals closed on 5 March and Sunderland City Council said feedback was being reviewed.
