Angel Reese, Alyssa Thomas, Skylar Diggins headline WNBA All-Star reserves
The WNBA revealed the 12 reserve players, with the league's 13 head coaches voting for three guards, five frontcourt players and four players at either position, regardless of conference.

Two Washington Mystics rookies — Kiki Iriafen and Sonia Citron — have been named to the All-Star Game, which is set for July 19. They will join Dallas Wings guard Paige Bueckers, who had previously been announced as an All-Star starter, as the rookies in the game. Three rookies mark the most to participate in the exhibition game since 2011.
Golden State Valkyries forward Kayla Thornton and Seattle Storm guard Gabby Williams were the two other first-year All-Star reserves named by the coaches Sunday.
The initial selection of the All-Star starters was conducted through a combination of voting by fans (50 percent), a national panel of media members (25 percent) and current WNBA players (25 percent).
Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark and Minnesota Lynx star Napheesa Collier will be the two team captains, having been the two lead vote-getters in the fan vote. Clark and Collier will select their teams, picking the starters first and then the reserves. Minnesota's Cheryl Reeve will coach Team Clark, while the New York Liberty's Sandy Brondello will coach Team Collier.

Citron, Iriafen among three rookie first-timers
The Mystics entered April's draft with two of the first five selections. A few months later, both of their picks have become All-Stars. Citron, the No. 3 pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, has been a versatile contributor for Washington, ranking second in scoring (14.6 points per game), third in rebounding (4.9) and fifth in assists (2.0) per game among rookies.
Iriafen, the No. 4 pick, has already been among the league's most effective rebounders, ranking fourth in the league in rebounds per game (8.3).

Storm, Fever are most represented
One of the most interesting questions heading into Sunday's reveal was who, if anyone, would have more than three All-Star players. With Mitchell making the All-Star team for the third consecutive year, the Fever will be well represented at All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis, and the Storm's trio of Ogwumike, Diggins and Williams also reflects a stellar first half from Seattle.
Williams will be a first-time player in the game, having averaged career-highs in points (13.3) and assists (4.7), with Seattle 25 points better per 100 possessions with her on the court than with her off of it.
'(Being an All-Star) is not something that I have put pressure on myself to become,' Williams told . 'The fact I can still be myself and still be considered for an All-Star spot is huge.'

Said Storm coach Noelle Quinn: 'An amazing human being, and I think the way that she's playing speaks for itself.'
Although it appeared during the season's first half that the Liberty could potentially have four All-Stars, they will have only two in the game. Star center Jonquel Jones would have almost definitely made the exhibition had she not been limited of late with an ankle injury — she's played just nine games this season — while guard Natasha Cloud went through a lull in the season's first half.
One of the biggest surprises was that the Dream did not receive three All-Stars. Howard joined Gray as Atlanta's representatives, but center Brionna Jones was left off the roster.
Jones, Sykes are the biggest omissions
Jones not making the All-Star Game is frankly one of the biggest surprises in recent memory. The 6-feet-3 center has been among the best frontcourt players in the league this season, recording eight double-doubles in her first 18 games after having recorded just 12 career double-doubles in eight prior seasons before joining Atlanta.

Jones is tied for fifth in the league in HerHoopStats' win-shares metric, bullying opponents on the inside. She is second in the WNBA in offensive rebounds and in the league's top five in second-chance points per game. She's scored in single-digits only three times this season as one of the most efficient bigs in the league.
A recent scoring surge by Thornton likely led to Jones being on the outside of the July competition, but it's still surprising to see the three-time All-Star center not receive the nod for the fourth time.
Credit to the Mystics for getting two players in the All-Star Game, but the fact that veteran guard Brittney Sykes is not one of them is the other major shocker from this reveal. It wouldn't have been entirely shocking had Sykes been named a starter, as she's averaging career-highs in points (17.9) and assists (4.6) per game while remaining as one of the league's best defenders. So much of Washington's offense revolves around Sykes breaking down opponents off the dribble, and she's thrived in first-year coach Sydney Johnson's system.
Multiple Minnesota Lynx players made the All-Star team is not surprising, though it is notable that neither guard Kayla McBride nor Alanna Smith was chosen. McBride was one of the four starters picked by 's Sabreena Merchant, while Smith has developed into a focal point for Minnesota on both ends. Guard Courtney Williams received the All-Star nod and will be in the game for the second time in her career, but the Lynx have the league's best record and will have only two players represented in the game.

In an era where centers are now valued more than almost any other position, a former first overall pick who has averaged a double-double for his career and played in a Finals series is a free agent. He hasn't suffered any major, career-threatening surgeries. He hasn't had any off-court controversies or criminal activity. He's just available, and yet most teams around the league are showing bare-minimal interest, if any at all. The Los Angeles Lakers are considered by most league sources favorites to land him, but mostly because someone has to be. Advertisement Such is the situation Deandre Ayton is facing only five years into his NBA career. Information on Ayton's next team has been hard to come by, mostly because every team considering him is working on things more important to them. For a short while, the Milwaukee Bucks were seen as a real threat to sign Ayton, but then they waived and stretched Damian Lillard to the tune of $22.5 million over the next five years to be able to sign Myles Turner. Some say they might still be after Ayton, but would he want to go somewhere on a prove-it deal after they just acquired a starting-caliber center? Following Turner's departure, some wondered if the Indiana Pacers – who once tendered Ayton a multi-year offer as a restricted free agent – might bring him in to help get them through this down year without Tyrese Haliburton. But nope, the response from Indiana has been tepid at best, as they lick their wounds and prepare for a down year. The Golden State Warriors lost Kevon Looney to the New Orleans Pelicans, so surely they'd be interested, right? Nope. They're considered favorites to land Al Horford in free agency and think Ayton shares a little too much in common with their infamous second overall pick, James Wiseman. Advertisement Outside of some unforeseen secret team lurking in the background – which, in this league, one can never overlook as a possibility – the Lakers seem most likely to bring in Ayton to at least start to fill their gaping hole in the middle of their lineups. But even they are considering other paths, even as the day approaches that Ayton will clear waivers, both in free agency and via trade, according to sources close to the team. Reporting from Ayton's most recent stop in this underwhelming, perplexing career has been pretty brutal. Jaxson Hayes continued to start for the Lakers last season even after TMZ revealed video of a domestic violence incident between him and his then-girlfriend. Miles Bridges was re-signed in Charlotte to a lucrative multi-year contract after he pleaded no contest to felony domestic violence charges. The list, quite unfortunately, goes on and on. Advertisement What the NBA will not abide is a prodigious talent who thinks the world must bow to his whim without putting in proper work or garnering the expected results, especially when that talent is on an outsized contract. As such, Ayton finds himself not only unceremoniously shown the door by the Blazers, but also has been met with obligatory but not exactly excited interest by teams that have a desperate need at his position. Wherever Ayton winds up, with the Lakers or otherwise, he'll have a ton of work ahead of him to rebuild his reputation around the league, and not much runway with which to do so. After rescinding their trade for Charlotte Hornets center Mark Williams, who was recently traded to the Phoenix Suns this summer, executive Rob Pelinka and his front office have made it their top goal to add a rim-running big man who fits the same timeline as Luka Doncic. Advertisement As the Lakers have continued to scour, their search has led them to multiple names. Nic Claxton and Walker Kessler are the household, fan-favorite players many are linking to the team on social media, and both have been players Pelinka and his front office have discussed. However, new names have emerged in the Lakers' search for frontcourt talent, specifically Phoenix Suns' Nick Richards and New Orleans Pelicans' Yves Missi, sources said. Richards was acquired by the Suns before the 2025 NBA trade deadline for three second-round picks and Josh Okogie. In 36 games with Phoenix after his trade from Charlotte, the 27-year-old center averaged 9.5 points and 8.6 rebounds per game while shooting over 60 percent from the floor. The Suns recently drafted Khaman Maluach with the 10th pick in the 2025 NBA Draft and traded for Williams, who Lakers fans know all too well. Phoenix is also high on Oso Ighodaro's development and potential entering the 2025-26 season, which is why the team is willing to move Richards this offseason. Advertisement Los Angeles has been linked to Richards already this offseason by Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, who also reported that the New York Knicks and Indiana Pacers are among several teams to inquire about the athletic big man. Missi is a very intriguing name to emerge as a trade target for the Lakers. The 21-year-old was recently named to the 2024-25 All-Rookie Second Team after averaging 9.1 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game in his first season with the Pelicans. The 21st-overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft may be more obtainable than many would imagine, especially after New Orleans flipped their front office around in the offseason, replacing David Griffin with Joe Dumars. Since Dumars took over, the Pelicans have been very aggressive in trade talks around the league, sources said. New Orleans has both fielded and made calls to teams to try and flip their roster around into one that can compete in the Western Conference immediately. Advertisement In addition to trading up to select Derik Queen in the lottery of this year's draft, a player Dumars and the Pelicans' brass are exceptionally high on, the team went out and signed veteran center Kevon Looney from the Golden State Warriors. It doesn't seem like the Pelicans are done making moves in their frontcourt just yet. Jose Alvarado and Jordan Hawkins have been two names floated around in trade rumors, with New Orleans wanting to add more size, sources said. The Lakers have also held trade conversations with the Portland Trail Blazers regarding veteran center Robert Williams III. With the Blazers waiving Deandre Ayton, who is rumored to be another player Los Angeles is gathering more information on, it appears Williams' price has decreased from where it stood before the trade deadline in February. Williams is entering the final year of his contract and will make just $13.2 million during the 2025-26 season. Advertisement The Orlando Magic are another team the Lakers have contacted regarding Wendell Carter Jr. and Goga Bitadze, sources said. It is unknown at this time what the extent of these conversations was and whether the Magic are actively listening to offers for Carter, a valuable member of their frontcourt. Between free agency and the trade market, Pelinka and the Lakers' brass have remained busy trying to find an immediate upgrade in their frontcourt. Despite missing out on Brook Lopez, Myles Turner, and Clint Capela in free agency, Los Angeles remains extremely motivated to add an impactful center this offseason.
