WR Kaydon Finley shuns dad's alma mater, picks Notre Dame

Four-star wide receiver Kaydon Finley has committed to Notre Dame's 2026 recruiting class. He is the son of former NFL tight end Jermichael Finley, who played his college ball at Texas before being selected by the Green Bay Packers in the third round of the 2008 NFL Draft. He spent all six of his NFL seasons with Green Bay, winning a Super Bowl. Kaydon Finley is ranked by the 247Sports composite as the No. 14 wide receiver in the 2026 class and the No. 15 player in prospect-rich Texas. He plays at Aledo High School and tallied 81 receptions for 1,432 yards and 21 touchdowns in 2024. He had nine 100-yard games. Finley took an official visit to his father's alma mater two weeks ago. He also made official trips to Texas A&M, Louisville and Arizona State, as well as Notre Dame. Notre Dame's 2026 schedule shows the first possible game Finley could play with the Irish would be Sept. 6 against Wisconsin at Lambeau Field, home of the Packers. 247Sports projects that the Irish will land the commitment of another NFL legacy this weekend -- Devin Fitzgerald, the son of former Arizona Cardinals great Larry Fitzgerald. The younger Fitzgerald is a three-star receiver from Brophy College Preparatory in Phoenix. His father played at Pitt. Notre Dame's 2026 class currently is ranked No. 3 by the 247Sports composite, trailing Southern California and Georgia. It is anchored by a pair of five-star prospects -- edge Rodney Dunham of Charlotte, N.C., and safety Joey O'Brien of Pennsylvania. --Field Level Media Field Level Media 2025 - All Rights Reserved

History of Camp Mystic, summer camp hit by deadly central Texas floods

Rescue operations are ongoing in Central Texas after flash flooding along the Guadalupe River left 23 girls from Camp Mystic unaccounted for. Officials say dozens have died as catastrophic floods continue to ravage the Hill Country. In response, authorities have mobilized a large-scale search effort, deploying 14 helicopters, game wardens and specialized rescue teams. Several children have already been rescued from trees and other stranded locations. Camp Mystic is a private Christian summer camp for girls located along the Guadalupe River in Hunt, Texas. According to the Camp Mystic website, the camp was established in 1926 by University of Texas coach "Doc" Stewart. In 1939, Agnes Stacy and her husband, "Pop" Stacey, purchased the camp. It remained in continuous operation, except for the years 1943-1945, when the federal government leased it as a rehabilitation camp for veterans of the Army Corps of World War II. The current Owners and Executive Directors of Camp Mystic are Dick and Tweety Eastland, who have been at Mystic since 1974. They are the third generation to manage Mystic, which has been in the family since 1939. Both Dick and Tweety attended The University of Texas in Austin. After they married and graduated from college, Dick, who is Ag's grandson, and Tweety decided to make their home at Mystic. For many years they worked alongside Iney and Frank Harrison, learning the traditions and operations of the camp. In the Mystic spirit, their goals are to boost every camper's self-confidence and to nurture the development of their individual characters. Dick & Tweety continue to keep the Mystic traditions thriving. The Camp Mystic website says it offers over 30 enjoyable activities for campers to choose from. Campers select up to 10 activities they want to take part in, but are also allowed to change their choices as they go along. The camp offers everything from aerobics to yoga and everything in-between. The flooding is similar to a flood back in 1987 when campers at a nearby Pot O' Gold Ranch were swept away by rushing flood waters, according to the National Weather Service. 10 of the teenagers tragically drowned. The remaining 33 children and adults survived as a result of a series of rescues, including dramatic helicopter rescues of several clinging to tree tops, conducted by Texas DPS, the US Army's 507th Medical Division, and a local television news station from San Antonio, Texas.
