Have you investigated Yusoff's police report, lawyer asks cops
KUALA LUMPUR : The lawyer of former research assistant Yusoff Rawther has urged the police to provide updates on a report lodged by his client last year in which he claimed he had been framed.
Following Yusoff's acquittal by the High Court today, Rafique Rashid Ali called on Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain to break his silence on the status of the investigation into the report, filed on Sept 12, 2024.
'Yusoff lodged the report last year on Sept 12. When he was brought to court, we told the police to investigate the report.
'I would like to question the IGP on the status of the investigation. Have the police called those listed in the report for questioning?' he told reporters today.
This is not the first time Rafique has raised the matter, having publicly called for an update from the authorities as early as November last year.
In the police report, Yusoff claimed he had been framed and provided a list of individuals allegedly involved in setting him up.
Yusoff, who had been held in remand for nine months, walked out of court a free man today after being acquitted of drug trafficking and the possession of two imitation pistols.
Justice Jamil Hussin ruled that the prosecution failed to establish a prima facie case on both charges, citing a lack of credible evidence to prove all elements of the offences.

Indonesia's directorate general of immigration at the law and human rights ministry said they are coordinating with immigration officials in Malaysia to confirm Riza's whereabouts, the Indonesian weekly, Tempo, reported. Acting Indonesian immigration director-general Yuldi Yusman said since Riza left the country, he 'has not returned to Indonesian territory' . 'His whereabouts are suspected to be in Malaysia at the moment,' he was quoted as saying. Yuldi was earlier quoted by Tempo as saying that immigration records show Riza has been in Malaysia since Feb 6 after departing from Soekarno-Hatta Airport. On Saturday, The Jakarta Post reported that Riza was named as a suspect in a corruption case linked to fuel imports at subsidiaries of Pertamina, the state-owned oil and gas giant, which registered trillions in losses. Indonesian investigators said they found enough evidence to name the businessman a suspect in their probe which has seen seven people arrested, including Riza's son, Kerry Adrianto. It was previously reported that the director of investigation at the attorney-general's office in Indonesia, Abdul Qohar, said Riza, who remains on the wanted list, could be in Singapore. However, Yuldi confirmed this afternoon that Riza is not currently in Singapore.

DBKL says it gave Desa Pandan stallholders ample time to vacate site

PETALING JAYA : Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) said today it had ordered hawkers in Desa Pandan to vacate a site in January, following a brief standoff between enforcement officers and a parang-wielding man yesterday. DBKL said it wanted the area on Jalan 2/76 cleared to carry out road works and upgrade facilities. In a statement, it said it had engaged and informed the stakeholders, including the hawkers and their associations, of its plans. The hawkers were officially told to vacate the site on Jan 15, it said, and a final notice was issued on July 4. 'Demolition work was to be carried out on July 15, but it was put on hold due to the commotion at the site,' it said. Police arrested a 43-year-old man after he brandished a parang at DBKL officers during an operation to demolish the illegal structures at Desa Pandan. The man is said to have confronted the officers at about 11.15am during the operation, which also involved the police, Tenaga Nasional Bhd, and Air Selangor. Wangsa Maju police chief Lazim Ismail had said the man shouted profanities at the officers before being calmed down by members of the public.

Nilai cops arrest woman for allegedly attacking boy, 11, at Mantin grocery store
SEREMBAN, July 16 — Police have arrested a 30-year-old woman for allegedly assaulting an 11-year-old boy at a grocery store in the Sri Palma Villa residential area in Mantin yesterday. Nilai district police chief Supt Abdul Malik Hasim said they received a report from a woman at 3.28pm, stating that her son had been assaulted and threatened by a woman known to them while at the grocery store. 'The incident was reported to have occurred around 12.30 pm yesterday, when the boy was buying a drink at the shop and was suddenly attacked by the suspect, who kicked and stomped on the victim's face and legs. 'The suspect is also alleged to have issued a death threat against the victim. The incident was captured on the store's closed-circuit television system and was also witnessed by a customer who was at the scene,' he said in a statement today. Abdul Malik said the suspect was arrested at 10.58pm yesterday, and preliminary investigations revealed she is a holder of a Person with Disability card and is believed to have mental health issues. He said the suspect was believed to have been hallucinating at the time of the incident and accused the boy of stealing items from the premises, although there was no evidence to support the claim. 'The victim received treatment at Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital in Seremban and was found to have swelling on his nose and bruises on several parts of his legs,' he said. The case is being investigated under Section 323 and Section 506 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation. — Bernama
