Heineken cheers EU-US trade deal as tariff problems hit shares
The world's No.2 brewer exports beer, especially its namesake lager, to the U.S. from Europe and Mexico, and has also suffered from the indirect impact on consumer confidence in key markets like Brazil.
Nevertheless, it reported a 7.4% increase in organic operating profit in the first half of the year, versus analyst expectations of 7%, crediting growth in once-difficult regions like Africa and Asia as well as cost savings.
Heineken's shares fell 4.3% as the brewer cautioned on softer volumes for the remainder of the year as U.S. policies, especially on trade, disrupt markets in the Americas.
CEO Dolf van den Brink welcomed the certainty brought by the trade deal clinched on Sunday, which reduced a threatened 30% U.S. tariff on EU goods to 15% - a rate that would still hit Heineken's U.S. profits.
All options are being considered to mitigate tariffs long-term, including shifting manufacturing, he said, but added that such moves were capital intensive and would first need more consistency in policy.
"We look at all options from ... continuing with our current setup, a more hybrid version, or otherwise," he told journalists on a call. "If and when we deem them financially to be more attractive in the mid- to long-term, we would for sure explore them."
Heineken still faces U.S. tariffs of up to 30% on products it produces in Mexico unless the Mexican government can reach an agreement with Washington ahead of an August 1 deadline.
Executives told journalists that since the first quarter, Heineken has also seen economic uncertainty hit spending and confidence in the U.S., Brazil and Mexico.
In Mexico, remittances from the U.S. have fallen significantly, impacting beer industry sales. And U.S. Hispanic consumers were also spending less, van den Brink said.
Heineken continues to expect annual profit growth of between 4% and 8%.
The company also beat forecasts for second quarter revenue and volume, with growth in markets like Vietnam and India, and increased an annual cost-saving goal by a quarter to 500 million euros ($586 million).
"They have slightly downgraded their volume guidance...given everything going on in the world...that to me doesn't feel like a terrible outcome," said Ryann Dean, global analyst at Heineken investor Aylett Fund Managers.
Heineken's strong growth in markets like India and China, and consistent profitability, more than offset this, he continued, adding that emerging markets would drive Heineken's long-term volume growth.

No10 confirms if there will be bank holiday for Euros win after Lionesses' victory with penalty heroics
THE Government has confirmed if there will be a bank holiday following the Lionesses' historic Euros victory. 4 4 They are the first senior England football team to win a major tournament on foreign soil and the first to retain a trophy after victory in 2022. But speaking today, the Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds revealed that there won't be a bank holiday to celebrate the win. Speaking to Times Radio, Mr Reynolds said: "There should be a day of celebration. That's what the prime minister promised. "That's not a bank holiday, but there is a Downing Street reception today. There'll be the Victory Parade tomorrow. "I'm afraid I can't announce a bank holiday, but there should be a celebration to mark this brilliant achievement." The Downing Street reception today is due to be hosted by Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner and sports minister Stephanie Peacock. The team will then attend a homecoming celebration event on Tuesday, with a ceremony expected to take place outside Buckingham Palace. The Prime Minister has previously pushed for a bank holiday to celebrate the Lionesses' achievements. Ahead of their loss to Spain in the World Cup final two years ago, Sir Keir Starmer backed a day of celebration. Writing on X at the time, he said: "It's almost 60 years since England won the World Cup. "I'm never complacent about anything… but there should be a celebratory bank holiday if the Lionesses bring it home." Mr Reynolds added: "It's a magnificent achievement and it was just a privilege to watch. "I think this team handles the big tournament pressure better than any England team I've ever seen. "I mean, there were some tough moments, but they really came through." England fell behind to a goal by Mariona Caldentey in the 25th minute, but Alessia Russo scored a stunning equaliser after half time. Chloe Kelly delivered the perfect cross to Russo in the box, who brilliantly headed it into the side-netting. The teams battled it out in 30 minutes of extra time before England's Kelly scored the winning goal in penalties. The match took place in Basel, Switzerland, at the massive St Jakob-Park stadium and just over 34,000 fans are in attendance. Sir Keir and The Prince of Wales watched on from the stands in Basel, while an estimated 16 million Brits supported from home. The Prime Minister hailed the team's triumph, saying: "The Lionesses have once again captured the hearts of the nation. "Their victory is not only a remarkable sporting achievement, but an inspiration for young people across the country. "It stands as a testament to the determination, resilience and unity that define this outstanding team." Supporters stood on tables, waved flags, threw drinks in the air and excitedly hugged each other as England claimed victory. The FA confirmed there will be an open-top bus parade along the Mall before the ceremony at the Queen Victoria Memorial. Fans can attend for free and it will be broadcast live on BBC, ITV, and Sky. Manager Sarina Wiegman ran on to the pitch punching the air as she joined the mass of players and staff mobbing Kelly. The Arsenal ace was in tears as she joined thousands of delighted fans singing Sweet Caroline. Moments later, Kelly said: 'I am so proud of this team. So grateful to wear this badge. So proud to be English. I was cool, I was composed. 'I knew I was going to hit the back of the net. Unbelievable. All the staff and Sarina Wiegman — she has done it again! Unbelievable. 'It is going to be crazy. I hope the whole of England comes out to support us and shows their love to these girls as they deserve it.' 4

Games Workshop to open new stores in US, Europe and Asia this year after Space Marine 2 success
Games Workshop is plotting dozens of new store launches around the world after the Warhammer creator's profits were supercharged by the launch of 'Space Marine 2'. The group cheered a record 2025 on Tuesday with pre-tax profits soaring by nearly 30 per cent to £262.8million, beating guidance of £255million, as sales jumped 19.6 per cent on a constant currency basis to £628.7million. It came as licencing revenues jumped from £31million to £52.5million after Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, a third-person shooter video game launched last year, performed 'well above' the group's expectations with seven million copies sold. Games Workshop is best known in the UK for its tabletop miniatures and high street stores across the country. But it has increasingly moved into video games and books, and a film and TV deal with Amazon that was finalised last December and is expected to be fronted by Superman actor Henry Cavill. Games Workshop cautioned that the next 12 months would suffer tough comparisons owing to the success of Space Marine 2, while the group thinks tariffs could impact profit before tax by around £12million. It said tariffs would be 'dealt with in our normal pragmatic way'. Nevertheless, Games Workshop outlined plans to boost manufacturing capacity and said it aims to open around 35 new stores globally over the next year. These are set to be focused on North American, continental Europe and Asia. The Nottingham-based firm's chief executive Kevin Rountree, CEO of Games Workshop said: 'After a record year, we remain focused on delivering our operational plans and working tirelessly to overcome any significant obstacles that get in the way. 'We will continue to give ourselves the freedom to make some mistakes, constantly working on improvements in product quality and manufacturing innovation. 'Despite our recent successes we will never take our hobbyists' support for granted.' Games Workshop declared and paid dividends worth 520p per share last year, up from 420p in the previous 12 months. Games Workshop shares were up 5.6 per cent to 16,110p approaching midday, having more than doubled over the last three years.
