MEPMA bags 9 SKOCH Platinum Awards for initiatives to end poverty
The SKOCH Awards, among India's most prestigious independent honours, acknowledged MEPMA's innovative, inclusive, and impactful initiatives that have significantly improved the lives of vulnerable urban communities.
Of the 14 projects submitted by MEPMA, nine were selected for Platinum honours following a rigorous evaluation process comprising peer review, board assessment, public voting, and expert panel scrutiny.
The recognition is seen as a milestone in Andhra Pradesh's commitment to inclusive urban development, especially in empowering self-help groups (SHGs), urban homeless, street vendors, and marginalised occupational communities.
The awarded projects span a wide range of focus areas including housing for the urban homeless, financial inclusion of SHG members, digital livelihood tracking, e-commerce for women entrepreneurs, skill development, gig economy participation, and structured support for street vendors and vulnerable groups.
MEPMA's strategic and community-driven approach has emerged as a model for other states to follow.
Mission Director N Tej Bharath credited the leadership of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and Municipal Adminstration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Minister P Narayana for their support, and thanked Principal Secretary S Suresh Kumar and CM's Secretary Pradyumna for their guidance.
The SKOCH Awards will be officially presented during the SKOCH Summit in New Delhi on September 20, 2025.

AP sets new benchmark in governance
Addanki: Andhra Pradesh has established a new benchmark in good governance under the coalition government led by Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu said Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar during the 'Suparipalanalo Tholi Adugu' programme launch at Ballikurava of Addanki assembly constituency on Wednesday. Speaking to the public, the minister explained that the state government has implemented unprecedented welfare schemes, benefiting millions of citizens across various sectors. He said that 67 lakh students are receiving Rs 15,000 each under the 'Thalliki Vandanam' scheme, 64 lakh beneficiaries getting social security pensions worth Rs 34,000 crore annually, as the pension amounts increased from Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,000, with disabled persons receiving Rs 10,000 every month. He said that the government is providing three free gas cylinders under the Deepam-2 scheme. The minister informed that the administration is filling 16,300 teacher positions as promised during the election campaigns and working toward creating 20 lakh private sector jobs through various policy initiatives. He mentioned that the government has invested approximately Rs 50 crore in road construction within the Addanki constituency alone, including concrete and tar roads in rural areas. He emphasised the state's commitment to creating world-class infrastructure to attract investments. He said that the government is positioning Andhra Pradesh to compete with neighbouring states like Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Telangana in terms of development and investment attraction. He directed the officials to ensure seamless implementation of welfare schemes at the grassroots level and provide immediate solutions to beneficiary concerns.

Chandrababu to tour Kuppam for two days to promote development and governance
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu is set to visit his Kuppam constituency for a two-day programme aimed at promoting development initiatives and engaging with local residents. His visit will kick off today, with the finalised schedule detailing a series of events and activities. The Chief Minister is expected to arrive at the helipad in Tumsi, Shantipuram mandal at 12:30 PM today. Following his arrival, he will attend a public meeting at the premises of the AP Model School in Tumsi at 12:50 PM, where he is likely to address local issues and initiatives. Later, CM Naidu will oversee the signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with various industry owners, as well as explore stalls set up by different government departments showcasing progress and offerings. At 4:30 PM, he will visit Thimmarajupalli in Shantipuram mandal, where he will embark on a door-to-door campaign to understand public grievances and convey information about government schemes and developments. He is scheduled to return to his residence in Kuppam at approximately 7:05 PM for the night. The following day, Thursday, CM Naidu will commence his activities at the Kuppam Area Hospital, inaugurating the Tata Digital Nerve Centre at 10:30 AM. He will then conduct official reviews at his residence around 12:15 PM and is expected to leave the helipad at Tummisi by 4:10 PM, returning to Bengaluru later in the day. Additionally, the state government has announced the launch of the "First Step" programme, aimed at enhancing good governance across Andhra Pradesh, commencing today. Over the course of a month, leaders will visit households to inform citizens about government initiatives and progress, reinforcing the achievements of the past year and outlining future plans. CM Naidu has instructed leaders at all levels, from the state to village levels, to engage actively in this programme, particularly to counter misinformation campaigns from opposing parties.

13% population in AP getting pensions: CM
Malakapalli (E Godavari dist): Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday maintained that 13 per cent of the people in the state were receiving social security pensions under NTR Bharosa, the highest in the country. Addressing a public meeting after taking part in the distribution of welfare pensions under NTR Bharosa at Malakapalli in East Godavari district, Naidu claimed that even larger and richer states were not offering these pensions on such a large scale. "Pensions are being given to 13 out of every 100 persons, which is unheard of in Indian history. We are spending Rs 2,750 crore every month and close to Rs 33,000 crore annually on these pensions,' the Chief Minister pointed out. Telangana, which is a richer state, is spending just Rs 8,000 crore on pensions, while it is only Rs 7,200 crore in Kerala, he added. Naidu sharply criticised the previous YSR Congress government, labelling its five-year rule as the 'biggest disaster' he has ever witnessed. He asserted that the damage inflicted on the state was 'unimaginable and far worse than any natural calamity'. "I have seen many disasters in my lifetime, but nothing compares to the destruction YSRCP has done to AP. It was a man-made disaster that affected every section of society," the Chief Minister remarked. Naidu, as part of the ongoing 'Pedala Sevalo' initiative, personally handed over pensions to beneficiaries at their doorsteps. In a particularly touching moment, he visited the home of Sanamandra Posibabu, a leather worker, to deliver his pension, engaging warmly with the family. Prior to this, he interacted with Konda Venkateswara Rao, owner of a local general store, and his family. He urged officials to distribute pensions with compassion, warning that any disrespect towards the poor would not be tolerated. The Chief Minister reiterated his government's commitment to welfare and development. He announced that effective August 15, women across the state would enjoy free travel in APSRTC buses. From the same day, the state will fully roll out WhatsApp Governance services, enabling citizens to easily access various government services and lodge grievances through the popular messaging platform, he added. The Chief Minister further said that the state government launched the P4 (Public, Private, People Partnership) programme with the sole aim of uplifting the underprivileged. He expressed pride that AP was the first to pioneer such a programme globally, asserting that no other country implemented a similar initiative. He promised a stringent crackdown on drug and ganja sales. He also announced that teacher recruitment would be completed within a month. The Chief Minister asserted that the Polavaram Project would be completed by 2027. Delving on the upcoming Godavari Pushkaralu, Naidu promised to organise them in the best way possible, adding that he would be organising it for the third time. Naidu was accompanied by Tourism Minister Kandula Durgesh, Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu, District Collector P Prasanthi, SP D Narasinha Kishore, Kovvur MLA Muppidi Venkateswara Rao and others.
