Russell Martin insists he harbours no concerns about the possible impact of his scathing assessment of Rangers ' performance against Motherwell. Despite leading through skipper James Tavernier's early goal at Fir Park, the visitors were overrun in the second half and dropped two points on the Premiership's opening day when Emmanuel Longelo struck for the Steelmen with three minutes remaining. 'I think if it has a detrimental effect on certain individuals, then they're probably not the ones we want to come on the journey with us,' he stated. 'So, I think if it has a detrimental effect on you and it hurts you to the point where you feel singled out, then there's probably an issue with you being all in at this place and this club and with us. 'I don't have any worry about it being detrimental on the team. Whenever I've questioned any of our teams in the past about attitude, the response has been fantastic. And then the problems have been maybe technical and ability. 'I've not said one thing addressing them and then told you (the media) another thing. 'So, I guess this is where you learn a lot about people. I'm really comfortable if I say that because I know where it comes from. It's not a concerted effort to out anyone or to try and beat someone. We're not. 'I think I'm just always going to be honest with the players and the supporters.' Martin also doesn't fear that one consequence of his words might be that the club becomes hampered with several unhappy players. 'No, I don't think so,' he added. 'There's plenty of time before the end of the window. 'I'm pretty sure all the players in here want to be part of something. And if not, at the end of it, if they don't want to be here, I don't want to force anyone to be at the football club. And it's up to their agents to find the right people for them and for us.' Since Saturday, the manager said he'd received a number of texts from people close to the club who fully approved of his decision to go public with his criticisms after just one league game. 'I had a lot of messages from people who were associated with this club who were really supportive of it,' he added. 'I think they understand when they've been in this building, they understand what's required and what quite hasn't quite been there over the last few seasons for whatever reason.' Martin yesterday completed the £3million signing of Oliver Antman, with the Finnish winger arriving from Dutch side Go Ahead Eagles. Antman is the ninth recruit of the summer. Speaking to RangersTV, the 23-year-old said: 'When I first heard Rangers were interested I was excited. It's a huge club, one of the most successful clubs in Europe and the world, and you don't get this kind of opportunity many times in your life.' Rangers were last night trying to register Antman and Mikey Moore in time to face Viktoria Plzen in the first leg of the Champions League third round qualifier. Neither Hamza Igamane or Thelo Aasgaard are yet fit enough to be considered for tonight's clash. Meanwhile, Rangers will face Club Brugge or Salzburg in the play-off round if they can get past the Czechs. Either side would make for a tough opponent. The Belgians finished runners-up in their domestic league, won the Belgian Cup and reached the last 16 of the Champions League. Martin's men drew 2-2 with them in a pre-season friendly. Last season, Salzburg were also second in their league and finished third bottom of the 36-team Champions League group.

Raheem Sterling tops a list of nine Chelsea players who have been brutally banished from Enzo Maresca 's first-team - and from the club's website. Sterling, 30, and his fellow outcasts do not feature in Maresca's plans next season and as such, none of them have a profile or photo in the Blues' first-team section. The forward spent the previous campaign on loan at Arsenal and Chelsea are actively working to ship him out permanently during the summer window. He moved to Stamford Bridge from Manchester City just three years ago in a deal worth a little under £50million, having won four Premier League titles at the Etihad. However, his stint at Chelsea rapidly unfolded into a nightmare, resulting in him making a last-ditch switch to North London, where he scored one goal in 27 matches. Maresca has made it clear that Sterling is not included in his plans and the clock is now ticking as the Blues look to find buyers for their unwanted players. Mail Sport reported that those up for sale, such as Sterling and left back Ben Chilwell, are expected to continue training separately to Maresca's main group. Chelsea have spent big this summer, splashing the cash on forwards Joao Pedro and Jamie Gittens from Brighton and Borussia Dortmund respectively. That resulted in Sterling slipping further away from the first-team picture - and off the website. Two other players who do not have profiles, Armando Broja and Lesley Ugochukwu, are set to join Premier League newcomers Burnley after a day of breakthroughs. Their exact fees have not yet been confirmed but are likely to be around £20m each. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is another on his way out. Rio Ngumoha shines to fuel Liverpool's optimism for new season
A vacancy has arisen on the left of Liverpool's forward line and an early, eye-catching application to fill the role has arrived from a 16-year-old. Rio Ngumoha further enhanced his first team claims with a sparkling display against Athletic Bilbao that underlined the formidable strength, and options, available to Arne Slot. Ngumoha opened the scoring superbly and teed up a second goal for Darwin Núñez inside five minutes at Anfield in the first of two pre-season friendlies against the Basque club. A packed Anfield crowd had to wait for the second fixture to catch a first glimpse of new signings Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Hugo Ekitiké and Jeremie Frimpong. Ngumoha kept them entertained and whetted the appetite prior to their appearances as Liverpool recorded a comfortable 4-1 win in match one. The left winger is not eligible to sign a professional contract until he turns 17 on the 29th of this month but showed why Chelsea were livid when Liverpool tempted him away from their academy last summer. In only the second minute of his second senior appearance at Anfield the teenager, who made his full debut against Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup last season, set off from the halfway line and, with Athletic defenders all in retreat, curled an excellent finish into the bottom corner of the Kop goal from 20 yards. Ngumoha produced something similar in Liverpool's previous pre-season outing against Yokohama F Marinos last week. That goal came on the day Luis Díaz completed his £65.5m transfer to Bayern Munich, creating an opening on the left that could be filled by any one of Cody Gakpo, Wirtz, Ekitiké and perhaps the 16-year-old talent from London. His display was enough to prompt chants of 'Rio' from the Kop and a song in his honour from the singer who appeared during the interval. Ngumoha's emergence – predicted with confidence by John Terry when he lamented the youngster's exit from Chelsea – is timely for Liverpool as they await Newcastle's next move on Alexander Isak. There may not be a rush to replace Díaz given the options already at Slot's disposal. The Premier League champions can afford to wait on their prime target for the No 9 role and leave their £110m offer for Isak on Newcastle's table. Three minutes after his individual goal Ngumoha headed down a Ben Doak cross for Núñez to convert from close range. Anyone looking for clues as to Núñez's next step – with Al Hilal interested in taking him to the Saudi Pro League – will have noted the hand-on-the-heart celebration that followed from the £60m-rated Uruguay international in front of the Kop. A glimpse of Liverpool's past and future, perhaps. Doak and Harvey Elliott, two other players who could leave Anfield in this window, were also on the scoresheet in the first contest against Ernesto Valverde's side. Ngumoha's footwork and pace also impressed in the 67 minutes he was on the pitch. He received a well-earned rousing reception when replaced by Trent Koné-Doherty. The opening game started at 5pm as scheduled despite supporters in the Main Stand having to be evacuated just over an hour before kick off due to a false alarm. Liverpool's first appearance on home soil since the tragic deaths of Diogo Jota and his brother, André Silva, was marked by the club's former captain Phil Thompson and Athletic president, Jon Uriarte, laying wreaths in front of the Kop before the game. There was a moving moment 20 minutes in when everyone inside the stadium rose to their feet to applaud Liverpool's number 20. Play stopped and players from both teams also joined in the applause for Jota and Silva.
