Patrick Kielty's TV future confirmed after Cat Deeley split as bosses issue statement

Daily Record6 days ago
Patrick Kielty's RTE bosses have confirmed the star's future on the channel after his surprise split from wife of 13 years, Cat Deeley.
Patrick Kielty's television career remains on track despite his recent split from Cat Deeley, with Irish broadcaster RTE providing an update after the couple's unexpected announcement.

RTE has confirmed that despite personal difficulties, Patrick will be back at the helm of The Late Late Show when it returns in September. It comes following the surprising news that Patrick and his wife Cat Deeley are separating after 13 years married.

The pair, who live in London with their two young sons, James, eight, and Milo, five, have been based there while Patrick travelled back and forth to RTE for his presenting commitments.

An RTE spokesperson has confirmed the comedian's continued involvement with the show, saying: "RTÉ looks forward to Patrick returning to the Late Late Show in September."
According to the Mirror, Patrick had previously revealed a three-season agreement with the national broadcaster. The dad of two has also made it clear that he will personally handle all travel and accommodation costs related to his work on the programme.

Patrick, who is set to receive €250,000 per season, further noted that he would get €20,000 for pre-show work and rehearsals. Prior to taking over as host of the Late Late Show, he expressed: "I'm pleased to finally be able to share that I've signed a three-season deal to host The Late Late Show beginning this September.
"I'm being paid €250,000 per 30-show season. If additional shows are requested by RTÉ, they'll be paid on a pro-rata basis.
"I'm also receiving a one-off payment of €20,000 to cover the pre-production and rehearsals from now to September. The contract allows me to submit flight and accommodation expenses, but I've waived this.

"I've made it clear to RTE that I will be covering my own flights and accommodation costs. I've also asked RTÉ to carbon offset my flights. I genuinely hope this helps clarify things going forward. I can't wait to get started."
The update on Patrick's career moves comes following his separation from Cat, with the couple issuing a joint statement. It said: "We have taken the decision to end our marriage and are now separated. There is no other party involved."

They emphasised their commitment to their children and requested privacy, noting, "We will continue to be united as loving parents to our children and would therefore kindly ask for our family privacy to be respected. There will be no further comment."
Details regarding when the split occurred remain unclear, though the couple had been living apart due to work commitments. Patrick was tied up with a significant contract in Ireland, while Cat was needed in London for her role on This Morning.
Cat last mentioned Patrick on her Instagram in October 2023, following their final public appearance together the previous month.

Love Island winners revealed as Cach and Toni in close final

Cach and Toni have been revealed as the winners of Love Island 2025 after several weeks in the Spanish villa, and they have taken home the £50,000 prize over their fellow finalists Cach Mercer and Toni Laites have been revealed as the winners of Love Island 2025. The ITV2 reality show wrapped up its twelfth series on Monday night and viewers watched as the happy couple both looked shocked when it was declared that they had emerged victorious, and would be walking off with the £50,000 prize. ‌ The pair managed to win over the public, beating off competition from fellow finalists Angel Swift and Ty Isherwood, Harry Cooksley and Shakira Khan and Yasmin Pettett and Jamie Rhodes. Immediately after the big win was announced, the couple were greeted by their fellow Islanders as they rushed to congratulate them. ‌ Host Maya Jama announced their victory live on air. It comes after one Mirror writer claimed 'the new Bonnie Blue documentary may be the worst thing I've ever seen on Channel 4'. ‌ The pair looked shocked upon learning of their big win, and when Maya asked US native Toni if she had any words for the British public, she held back tears and screamed: "Yeah, I love you guys!" Viewers were quick to flood social media with their reactions, with one writing: "There you have winners Congratulations to Cach and Toni our American princess took the crown and our handsome and most gentleman we have this year." Another said: "They went from strangers to soulmates," and embellished their comment with a tears emoji and a red heart, whilst a third said: "Toni and Cach are such a deserving couple. Cach taught Toni the bare minimum she should expect in treatment from a man and Toni taught Cach that pride can sometimes stop you getting what you want. I'm here for it." Cach and Toni first laid eyes on each other during Casa Amor and although they struck up an instant connection, it was obvious Toni's heart was still with Harrison. Harrison however, had shared kisses with Helena in the main villa, leaving Toni with no option to explore, adamant Harrison would be doing the same. Of course, he did as he returned to the main villa with Lauren. The pair were glued to each other's hips, but Harrison continued to have flirty conversations with Toni. Harrison then persuaded Toni to couple up with him at the next recoupling, leaving Cach in tears in scenes that moved the nation. However, when Lauren was dumped from the villa, Harrison told his fellow Islanders that he saw himself being in a relationship with Lauren on the outside. ‌ As Harrison made his exit, Cach found it in his heart to forgive Toni, despite trying to get to know Billykiss at the same time. However, it looked like his family made need a little bit more convincing. Cut to the final week, and the couple couldn't have been happier despite all the tests and challenges thrown at them with Cach even telling (not asking) Toni to become exclusive with him. Although the pair reside across the Atlantic from each other, Toni has made it clear that she has no problems moving to London. During the final, the four finalists got all dressed up for one final meal together, and eventual runners-up Harry and Shakira reflected on their journey as a couple together throughout the series. She told him: "Doing this experience without you and watching things unfold was so hard because I felt so strongly towards you. You're everything I could possibly want in a partner. It's been an amazing last week and I'm excited for the future." Prior to coupling up with Shakira, Harry had a l ong-standing romance with Helena Ford and then his ex-girlfriend Emma Munro made a shock entrance to the villa before leaving in the weeks leading up to the final. Shakira was initially coupled up with Harry in the early weeks of the competition, but they got together again just days ahead of the final and he told her: "I came in here and thought it would be a lot of fun. Finding you in a Villa in Mallorca was not on my bingo card this summer. I do regret taking too long to tell you how I felt. We both know this is more than surface level - I think it always has been for me."

Coronation Street casts Hollywood actor to play returning character's husband

Catherine Tydlesley is set to reprise her role as Eva Price on Coronation Street and it's been claimed that a Hollywood star will join her as bosses aim to rival EastEnders Catherine Tydlesley is set to reprise her role as Eva Price on Coronation Street, and will arrive with a Hollywood star playing her new husband. The actress, 41, quit her role as Eva on the cobbles in 2018 but is now said to be making a comeback, and the former barmaid will now be installed as Rovers Return landlady. ‌ Reports surrounding the return of Leanne Battersby's sister emerged earlier this year, but then nothing was announced. Fresh reports just last week claimed the planned plot was now approaching. ‌ It's thought that the move has come about after EastEnders bosses revealed that Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) and Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) will be taking the reins of the Queen Victoria pub. Aaron McCusker, who starred as Freddie Mercury's boyfriend in the film Bohemian Rhapsody, is reportedly set to arrive alongside her as her new husband. ‌ A source told The Sun: "Corrie bosses were never going to take EastEnders shrewd decision to reinstate Kat and Alfie at the Vic lying down. So they took their time looking for the perfect actor to play her husband to Eva as she makes her return to Corrie as the new boss of the Rovers." The insider added that Corrie bosses knew they had found the 'perfect' actor as soon as the Irish-born star walked into the room. They added of his character: "Aaron's character is also someone not to be messed with, and the locals are going to be in for a shock if they think they can take advantage of his good nature and that cheeky Irish charm. ‌ "It's the start of an exciting new chapter in the pub's history." Aaron is also known for his role as Jamie Maguire in Shameless, whilst Catherine has appeared in shows such as Scarborough and The Good Ship Murder since her exit from the serial. She was also set to star in a cancelled touring production of Bonnie and Clyde: The Musical last year and went viral over a social media scandal known as Cakegate in late 2023. The actress first appeared on Coronation Street in 2011, and arrived as the daughter of Stella Price (Michelle Collins), who had arrived to take over the pub herself and reveal herself as the long-lost mother of Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson). ‌ Over the course of seven years, Catherine saw her alter-ego through numerous relationships with the likes of Jason Grimshaw (Ryan Thomas), Rob Donovan (Marc Baylis) and Nick Tilsey (Ben Price). Her most notable relationship was with Aidan Connor (Shayne Ward), but that started to go awry when he began an affair with Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon). Instead of confronting Aidan head-on about his infidelity, she decided to take revenge by putting a bright pink Range Rover on his credit card and then decided to fake a pregnancy. Maria discovered Eva's lies and exposed them all at the wedding but Eva later discovered that she was in fact pregnant with Aidan's baby. In order to go through with the birth in secret, she went off to a remote cottage and had planned to give baby Susie away to Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor). However, Aidan later took his own life and Eva began to grow close to her daughter, eventually opting to leave in the back of a taxi with her for good. If Eva does return and take over the Rovers, she will be following in the footsteps of former characters such as Annie Walker (Doris Speed), Bet Lynch (Julie Goodyear) and Liz McDonald (Beverley Callard), all of whom have helmed the nation's most famous pub over the course of the show's history. One such landlady is Jenny Connor, who is confirmed to be leaving the ITV soap. Why Jeff and Freddy Brazier have called an uneasy truce over ban on gran Jackiey – as shock twists behind feud revealed

Read on to find out who the surprising 'peacekeeper' was during the bitter row - and Jeff's shock new legal move FEUD OVER Why Jeff and Freddy Brazier have called an uneasy truce over ban on gran Jackiey – as shock twists behind feud revealed IT is a toxic tale of drug use, 'spying' claims and a ruthlessly aggressive public slanging match that has cast a dark shadow over the legacy of Jade Goody. Today, The Sun can reveal the tense, behind-the-scenes machinations that have seen the late reality star's mum, Jackiey Budden, and the father of her two boys, Jeff Brazier, reach the unlikeliest of ceasefires. Advertisement This Morning star Jeff has quietly dropped his legal case against Jackiey after his son even threatened to flee the UK with his gran. It was this fragile detente that saw Freddy, his Strictly star brother Bobby and their dad put on a surprising show of unity this week at a London theatre launch, where Jeff is appearing in 101 Dalmatians. A source explained: 'Freddy is back living with Jackiey again at her flat in South London, but still spending time with his dad and brother, too. Effectively they've all made peace for the time being and are trying to make things better again, which is doing them the world of good. 'It's actually the perfect outcome for everyone, and exactly what Jade would have wanted. The boys are happier for it, and the constant in-fighting has stopped . . . for now. 'There's no denying that Jackiey and Jeff will never be the best of friends, or even close, but for now it's a peaceful solution. Advertisement 'Granted, she still calls him a 'c**k' to her friends but, crucially, she never bad-mouths Jeff in front of his kids. 'Freddy remains devoted to her — and was threatening to leave the UK to be with his grandmother abroad if Jeff carried on his legal case. 'Even a few weeks ago, it looked as though things would never calm down again and he was still trying to use the courts to keep the two sides of the family apart. 'But the metaphorical white flag has been raised — there is peace.' Angry backlash Details of the bust-up first emerged earlier this year when TV host Jeff began bizarre court proceedings in a bid to block troubled Freddy, 20, from making contact with his grandmother — insisting her frequent cannabis use was a dangerous influence. Advertisement It sparked an angry backlash from the aspiring model, who raged that nothing would stop him from seeing his beloved 'Nanna' — and they were later photographed smoking what appeared to be a cannabis joint together near her Bermondsey home. Days later, Freddy revealed on Instagram he was preparing to check into a Marbella rehab facility in a bid to 'get clean', before making a swift U-turn and claiming: 'I just need a holiday.' He has also launched a series of furious tirades at his father behind the scenes — even accusing Jeff of spying on him and having him trailed by paparazzi to keep an eye on his behaviour — something the TV host fervently denies. Another incident saw his father turn up unannounced at a London hairdressers to confront him about spending time with Jackiey. It is understood Jeff has now parked his plans to pursue legal action, recognising that the expensive legal filings and potential court bid would do little to dissuade his son from contacting Jackiey. But he has also enjoyed a growing relationship with his dad in recent years, including appearing together on TV hit Celebrity Race Across The World, where their quirky but likeable double act proved popular with viewers. Devoted Jackiey has insisted that she has only ever been a loving and supportive grandmother to both of her daughter's children — and said she could never understand Jeff's efforts to divide them. Advertisement She added: 'All these years, I've been the closest thing to their mum.' Meanwhile, Freddy has opened up a new battle after splitting from his girlfriend, Holly Swinburn, following a furious row between the pair, who are now accusing one another of wrong-doing in a dispute, with each threatening to escalate the row by involving the police. In June, Freddy was spotted on a date with influencer Natasha Newcombe. Jade, who shot to fame in Big Brother in 2002, passed away in 2009 aged just 27 after a harrowing battle with cervical cancer. The run-up to her death, broadcast and documented in painful detail, gripped the nation and brought a surge in cancer screenings dubbed the 'Jade Goody effect'. Advertisement Before she passed away, she begged Jeff to take care of her two sons, then aged just five and four. He has always insisted he tried to do the right thing by them, often in private, steering them away from the spotlight in their early years. But the tension between him and Jackiey — Jade's eccentric and outspoken mum — has simmered ever since. Jackiey, a former drug addict who raised Jade alone, was known for her brash style and fiery public appearances, including a famously awkward stint on Celebrity Big Brother alongside Jade in 2007. Storm has calmed She claims she has been unfairly sidelined over the years and struggled to maintain a consistent presence in her grandsons' lives due to her feud with their father. Advertisement Freddy's older brother Bobby, now 21, has taken a different path, enjoying a rise from quiet teenager to Strictly finalist and EastEnders heart-throb. He has largely kept his distance from the drama and maintained a diplomatic relationship with both sides of the family, having instead devoted his time to the Hare Krishna movement after becoming involved with the religion in recent years. He was seen this week wearing the group's trademark orange outfit in central London as he took part in one of their rituals. Insiders say Bobby has acted as a 'peacekeeper' during the row, urging his dad and gran to let Freddy make his own choices — and speaking regularly to each of his relatives. A friend said: 'Bobby's had a lot on his plate with work but he is close to Freddy and just wants everyone to get on for his sake. He misses Jade every day and knows that she wouldn't want this fighting.' Advertisement 8 In June, Freddy was spotted on a date with influencer Natasha Newcombe Credit: 8 Freddy's older brother Bobby has enjoyed a rise from quiet teenager to Strictly finalist and EastEnders heart-throb Credit: PA For now, it seems the storm has calmed, but whether the peace holds is another matter. The boys remain at the heart of their late mother's legacy, and will soon be the beneficiaries of a trust fund left to them, with instructions that it could not be accessed until they reached their mid-twenties — except for education and healthcare. As one insider adds: 'They're growing up fast and have so many opportunities. Advertisement 'And soon they will get the money Jade left for them too, which should give them the strong start in their adult life she always wanted for them. 'Hopefully the peace holds, but when it comes to Jackiey and Jeff, the next fallout could easily be just around the corner.'
