Road opening parties, CCTV surveillance on the route, and increased strength of paramilitary forces – these are the security details of this year's Amarnath Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir.
The first batch of pilgrims to the shrine, located at a height of 3,880 metres in the South Kashmir Himalayas — will leave the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas on the morning of July 2.
There is heavy security in Jammu ahead of the yatra – apart from the Jammu and Kashmir police, 180 units of paramilitary forces have been deployed, Jammu zone Inspector General of Police Bhim Sen Tuti told the media. The yatra comes two months after the terror attack in Pahalgam killed 26 people, mostly tourists.
The new security detail this year includes road opening parties, the IGP, who along with the divisional commissioner of Jammu Ramesh Kumar, chaired a high-level meeting to review security arrangements, said. These have been deployed all along the national highway right from Lakhanpur to Banihal.
The route is under CCTV surveillance, the official said.
'Even better arrangements are being made this year, whether in terms of the number of paramilitary forces and their deployment in sensitive areas, or the CCTV surveillance,' he said. 'From road opening parties to the installation of CCTV cameras, everything has been set up. The security has also been provided at langars, lodging centres.'
From July 2, the traffic police will issue a daily advisory regarding the movement of yatra convoy, he said, adding that cut off timings will be fixed for its crossing at all points. 'Pilgrims intending to participate in the yatra must follow the advisory to avoid any problem or inconvenience,' he said.

'Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra stands as a powerful symbol of Jammu and Kashmir's glorious past and its promising future. It is truly a peoples' yatra. Every citizen is a key stakeholder of this holy pilgrimage which also holds profound socio-economic, spiritual, and cultural significance for every section of society,' he said. Ahead of the annual Amaranth Yatra starting on July 3, the lieutenant governor interacted with various stakeholders here to discuss arrangements for smooth pilgrimage. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was present at the interaction at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) here in which members of the civil society, religious leaders, DDC chairpersons, members of business and trade associations, and MLAs also participated. 'I appeal to the civil society members, elected public representatives, religious, trade and business organizations to make this pilgrimage a vibrant celebration of spirituality, unity, love and communal harmony," Sinha said. The lieutenant governor welcomed the suggestions from various sections of the society and sought their active participation and cooperation in smooth conduct of the holy pilgrimage. He said the peaceful conduct of this holy yatra will send a strong message that the people of Jammu Kashmir stand united. 'Spiritual leaders, civil society members, public representatives, trade and business fraternity are respected members of J&K family and are carrying forward this thousands-of-years-old spiritual tradition with complete devotion. This year too, maintaining social harmony and social unity and ensuring peaceful and successful conduct of the holy pilgrimage is your responsibility," he said. Sinha highlighted the key initiatives by Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board, administration, J&K Police, security forces and other stakeholders for enhancing the pilgrim-centric facilities and making the yatra more secure and safer for the pilgrims. The lieutenant governor also urged the pilgrims to travel in the designated convoys. 'I have made an on-ground assessment of the facilities on the yatra tracks which were recently developed for the convenience of pilgrims. The number of pilgrims' registration have been increasing continuously and I am confident that the large number of devotees will visit the holy cave to pay their obeisance to Baba Barfani," he said. Sinha said Jammu Kashmir and its people have always rejected distinctions between sects and religions, consistently extending respect and acceptance to every faith and its unique forms of worship. 'With this very spirit, let us welcome the lakhs of devotees arriving for the Shri Amarnathji Yatra and, through our collective efforts, ensure a successful, peaceful and hassle-free pilgrimage for all the devotees," he added. The lieutenant governor said the administration has made preparations, including security-related, for comfort of the visiting pilgrims. 'Despite challenging weather conditions and tough terrain, efforts have been made to ensure better facilities for the pilgrims. Many of you are aware of this. Significant improvements have taken place," said Sinha in his address. 'I also know that people from Jammu and Kashmir, especially those involved in this yatra, have served with dedication and will continue to do so," he added. Speaking to reporters after the meeting, the lieutenant governor said the stakeholders have assured of all possible support to make the yatra a success. 'I had invited all the senior leaders and representatives of the political parties to the Raj Bhavan and requested them to make the Amarnath Yatra and Muharram successful. They assured me of support for both the yatra as well as Muharram," said Sinha. 'The members of the civil society, religious leaders, DDC chairpersons, office bearers of business and trade associations, and MLAs, were here for consultations today. Senior officers were also present. We have been doing this endeavour for the last four years," he added. The lieutenant governor said the stakeholders have assured him that the yatra belongs more to people than the administration and shrine board, and all will provide their support to make the yatra successful. Jammu DGP reviews security readiness for Amarnath Yatra
Ahead of the annual Amarnath Yatra, Jammu and Kashmir director general of police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat chaired a high-level security review meeting on Saturday to assess the preparedness of security and civil agencies for the safe and smooth conduct of the 38-day-long pilgrimage, set to begin on July 3. The first batch of pilgrims is scheduled to leave from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu on July 2. Inspector general of police (IGP), Jammu zone, Bhimsen Tuti; IG BSF Jammu Sector, Shashank Anand; divisional commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar; DIG traffic Jammu, Dr Haseeb Mughal; DIG Jammu-Samba-Kathua Range, Shiv Kumar Sharma; SSP Jammu, Joginder Singh; and senior officers from 16 corps and 26 division of the army attended the meeting. At the outset, officers briefed the DGP on the security blueprint for the yatra, highlighting coordination mechanisms among various agencies. SSP Jammu Joginder Singh gave a detailed presentation on the security deployments across registration centres, token distribution points and 106 lodgement centres within Jammu district. He also discussed the implementation of anti-drone technology and other innovations to safeguard the yatra. Senior officers from the army, CAPFs, and intelligence agencies also briefed the DGP on their respective security arrangements. During the meeting, DGP Prabhat interacted with all nodal officers involved in yatra planning and directed them to strictly implement the standard operating procedures (SOPs). He stressed the need for proactive risk mitigation measures, real-time monitoring and the deployment of anti-sabotage teams along yatra routes. The DGP instructed field officers to dismantle any existing terror infrastructure and intensify area domination, surveillance, and threat detection using advanced technologies. Divisional commissioner, Jammu, Ramesh Kumar outlined the administrative steps taken to facilitate the pilgrimage. He expressed satisfaction with inter-agency coordination and confirmed that 106 lodgement centres have been established across Jammu region, equipped to provide boarding and lodging to pilgrims.

BSF officials said that after the Pahalgam terrorist attack, unprecedented security arrangements have been made along the border for this year's Amarnath Yatra. "The Border Security Force has increased patrolling all along the International Border in Jammu Frontier," they added. "Few days are left for the start of yatra and BSF has made elaborate arrangements with additional troops of BSF including women personnel and the border has also been kept under surveillance," they said. "Our troops are patrolling round the clock and keeping close watch on every movement along the border," they said. Besides hi-tech gadgets, drones are also maintaining surveillance on border besides any unwanted and suspicious movement, they stated. Inspector General BSF Jammu Frontier, Shashank Anand in his maiden press conference on May 27 here at Jammu Frontier had said that BSF is vigilant and maintaining high alertness along the border. Enemy may strike again with fresh infiltration attempts and cross-border firing but the troops are on high alert and maintaining vigil all along the International Border and the Line of Control alongwith the Indian Army and other security agencies, IG BSF had said. 'BSF is 24x7 completely alert on the international border. Our endeavour is that in the coming times, especially when the Amarnath Yatra is going to start, all security related arrangements should be in place and there will be no lowering of guards on the border,' IG Anand had said. Meanwhile Union Home Minister Amit Shah on May 30 during his visit to Poonch district had said that the government is committed to support and empower security forces in their mission to safeguard national borders. "Government is committed in supporting and empowering the security forces in their mission to safeguard national borders," Shah reiterated while interacting with BSF troops. He highlighted the significant impact of destroying more than 118 Pakistani posts and surveillance equipment in just three days actions that left Pakistan struggling to gather intelligence for an extended period.
