Shankaracharya ‘excommunicates' Rahul Gandhi from Hinduism for insulting Manusmriti
The religious leader stated that the Manusmriti was the foundation of Sanatan Dharma and that Rahul Gandhi had made offensive remarks about it in Lok Sabha proceedings.

The Shankaracharya also claimed that a notice had been issued to the Congress leader calling for him to apologise but they had not received any response.
"Rahul Gandhi has been formally excommunicated from Hinduism by the Shankaracharya Math," the Shankaracharya of Jyotirpeeth Badrinath Dham announced at his Math in Kankhal.

"He was also given a notice in this regard by the Shankaracharya Math, but he neither apologised for it nor gave any reply to the notice. That is why he has been formally excommunicated from Hinduism by the Shankaracharya Math," the Shankaracharya added. Rahul Gandhi's remark on Manusmriti
In a parliament session earlier this year, Rahul Gandhi had blasted the Bharatiya Janata Party, claiming that they followed the Manusmriti and not the Constitution of India.
In a scathing attack on the government, he referenced his visit to Hathras, where he met the family of an alleged gang-rape victim.

Gandhi said, 'The culprits are roaming around and the girl's family are confined at home. Where is it written in Constitution that the culprit will roam free? This is written in your book Manusmriti."
He also accused the BJP of following the ideology of Hindutva leader VD Savarkar, which he claimed was antithetical to the principles enshrined in the Constitution.
'There is a battle taking place today in India. On this side, we have defenders of the idea of the Constitution. From each state we have one. From Tamil Nadu we have Periyar, from Maharashtra we have Jyotiba Phule, from Gujarat we have Gandhi,' he said, adding that while the BJP lauded these figures publicly, they actually wanted India 'to be run the way it used to be run earlier.'

Election Commission NEW DELHI: Amid claims and counter-claims over the special intensive revision (SIR) of Bihar electoral rolls, Election Commission officials said Sunday that the poll panel's guidelines, issued on June 24, allow electors to add documents after submitting their enumeration forms, till July 25 and even during the 'claims and objections' period. Besides, electoral registration officers can rely on field inquiry or alternative proof - beyond the 11 documents listed by EC for citizenship - to decide on an elector's inclusion. After publication of draft roll, if any document is deficient, EROs can obtain such documents from electors whose name appears in the draft roll during scrutiny in the 'claims and objections' period," CEC Gyanesh Kumar told TOI on Sunday. Importantly, a senior EC functionary clarified that the list of 11 documents specified by EC to prove one's eligibility for inclusion in the roll - as per Article 326 of the Constitution and provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1950 - is indicative and not exhaustive, and that the ERO has powers under the law to satisfy himself about the eligibility of a person to be enrolled as an elector on the basis of any other document or local inquiry if he deems fit. However, the ERO must make a "speaking order", recording in writing the reasons for such inclusion or exclusion. After govt steps in, X unblocks Reuters' handles
Denying any government order to X (previously Twitter) to withhold Reuters' account, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology was learnt to have directed the social media company to unblock two accounts of the international news agency on Sunday. Hours later, the Reuters accounts were restored. On Saturday night, X blocked the handles of Reuters and Reuters World, with a message displayed on their accounts stating they had been withheld in India 'in response to a legal demand'. But in a statement on Sunday morning, an official spokesperson of the IT Ministry said, 'There is no requirement from the Government of India to withhold Reuters handle. We are continuously working with X to resolve the problem.' A senior official said the government had sent blocking orders to X related to some posts made by the news agency during Operation Sindoor in early May, but the platform, at the time, had not taken any action on the posts. 'When they blocked two accounts of Reuters on Saturday night, it caught us by surprise, because we had never asked X to block the accounts. Some takedown requests were made to X for posts made by Reuters during Operation Sindoor on May 7-8, but those posts were never taken down,' the official said. 'But now they turn around and block the accounts when no such demand was made, which we have been informally informed was an erroneous understanding of our previous orders. We have communicated with them verbally and also sent them a written order, asking to reverse course and unblock the accounts. There is no intent to block legitimate news platforms in India,' the official said. X did not respond to queries on the issue. 'We are working with X to resolve this matter and get Reuters account reinstated in India as soon as possible,' a Reuters spokesperson said earlier in the day. While it had blocked a range of accounts it believed were linked to Pakistan and China, it had also directed blocking the X accounts of news platforms BBC Urdu and Outlook India, which was later revoked. Earlier, in a statement on May 9, X had said that it had received executive orders from the Indian government asking for over 8,000 accounts to be blocked, including those belonging to 'international news organisations and prominent X users'. The social media platform said that falling foul of the executive orders could subject it to potential penalties, including significant fines and imprisonment of its local employees. The Indian Express had reported that following a flurry of what it called 'misinformation' on social media platforms related to Operation Sindoor, a small team at the IT Ministry — which was set up last year during the Lok Sabha polls to flag and take down election-related misinformation on social media platforms — received reinforcement of personnel and was asked to step up monitoring and flag misleading content related to the conflict to be taken down. The monitoring happened round-the-clock, with people working across shifts.
