Cristiano Ronaldo renews Al Nassr deal till 2027

Times of Oman27-06-2025
Taking to X, Ronaldo posted, "A new chapter begins. Same passion, same dream. Let's make history together."
Cristiano Ronaldo renews Al Nassr deal till 2027. The superstar footballer signed with the Club in 2022 after the World Cup that year, leaving Manchester United to become a free agent. His deal was for two and a half years.
Across all competitions for the club, he has netted 93 goals in 105 matches. The deal made him the highest-paid athlete worldwide and he has been topping this list for last three years, as per Forbes.
At the age of 40, Ronaldo's total earnings are estimated to be around $275 million.
Showing no signs of ageing and decline, he led Portugal to the UEFA Nations League title earlier this month, defeating Spain in the final.
With 932 goals scored already, he is also aiming to reach 1,000 goals. On club level, he has 794 goals while for Portugal, he has found the net 138 times.
Even though Ronaldo has won the Arab Club Champions Cup with Al Nassr, he is yet to win the SPL title, as the team finished runners-up in 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons and third in 2024-25 season.
The club's sporting director Fernando Hierro said back in May that it was keen to have the superstar sign a new deal and also suggested they had some competition from other clubs to gain the veteran's services once again.
His words came after Ronaldo had hinted that the season's finale at Al-Fateh was his last appearance for the club.

League of Legends: Gill surpasses Gavaskar, Virat, joins Lara, Sangakkara, Gooch following historic double-ton, century combo at Birmingham

Birmingham: Indian skipper Shubman Gill's dreamy, record-breaking continued to tire out bowlers and statisticians alike as he became only the second Indian batter to score a double century and a century in the same Test and overall ninth batter to do so, joining legends like Sunil Gavaskar, Brian Lara, Graham Gooch, Kumar Sangakkara among others. After a brilliant 269 in 387 balls in the first innings, Gill ended the second session of day four unbeaten at 100* in 130 balls, with nine fours and three sixes. His runs came at a strike rate of 76.92. He has become only second Indian after Gavaskar to hit a double ton and century in the same Test, scoring 124 and 220 against West Indies at Port of Spain in 1971. Other batters having achieved this feat include Australia's KD Walters, West Indies RG Lowe, Australia's Greg Chappell, England's Gooch, WI icon Lara, Sri Lanka's Sangakkara and Australia's Marnus Labuschagne. With a total of 369 so far (and still going), Gill has outdone Gavaskar to have the highest aggregate for India in a single Test. Gavaskar's Port of Spain masterclass in 1971 was worth a total of 344 runs. He has outdone ex-skipper and legendary batter Virat Kohli (243 and 50) to have the highest aggregate by an Indian captain in a Test match. Virat's effort came against Sri Lanka at his home stadium, Arun Jaitley Stadium, back in December 2017. Gill is the second Asian batter with 350-plus aggregate in a Test outside the subcontinent after Pakistan's Hanif Mohammad (354: 17 and 337) at Bridgetown in 1958.' The youngster is also the third Asian batter to have a 300-plus run aggregate in a Test taking place in South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia (SENA) countries after Rahul Dravid (305) and Sachin Tendulkar (301) did that in Adelaide and Sydney respectively in 2003-04. He is also the only third Indian captain to have a 100-plus score in both innings of the Test, besides Gavaskar (against West Indies in Kolkata, 1978), Virat (against Sri Lanka in 2017). Gill is the second player to record three hundreds in his first two Tests as captain after Virat Kohli. So far in two Tests and four innings of this series, Gill is the top-run-getter by miles, scoring 524 runs at an average of 174.66, with three centuries. Shubman Gill's masterful century after his classy double ton in the first innings has put India in a strong position in the second Test against England, with the visitors ahead of hosts by 484 runs at Tea on the penultimate day. Rishabh Pant's scintillating innings of 65 runs off 58 balls helped India quickly pile up the runs. India was 304/4 at Tea with Gill (100*) and Jadeja (25*) unbeaten.

Fluminense edges Al Hilal to enter Club World Cup semifinal

ORLANDO-- Hercules scored the winner as Fluminense beat Al Hilal 2-1 in the FIFA Club World Cup here on Friday, securing a place for the Brazilian side in the FIFA Club World Cup semifinals. Fluminense broke the deadlock in the 40th minute, when Matheus Martinelli curled the ball into the top far corner, assisted by Gabriel Fuentes. Al Hilal was awarded a penalty in the stoppage time of the first half after a tangle of legs, but the referee's decision was revoked by VAR for "no foul". The Saudi side found the equalizer in the 51st minute as Kalidou Koulibaly headed the ball into the goal area, allowing Marcos Leonardo to score his fourth goal of the tournament. However, Al Hilal failed to repeat their comeback victory over Manchester City once again, Fluminense re-took the lead in the 70th minute, after Hercules netted with a powerful right-footed shot. In the last 15 minutes, Al Hilal players constantly fell down in the box and asked for penalty. But they couldn't convince the referee and Koulibaly was shown a yellow card for diving. In the mixed zone, Koulibaly spoke with confusion. "We did everything to win. Fluminense played very well defensively. I don't understand [referee's decision]. I think everyone saw it, but I don't know why the referee didn't go to check the VAR for me [in the second half]." "Sometimes we want to accept everything, but when you lose like this, I think it was a shame, because it was the chance of our life. I think the referee didn't do his job," Koulibaly added. "If you check the VAR in the first half, you should check it in the second half." Al Hilal coach Simone Inzaghi said it had been unfortunate for his team to lose. "It has been a good World Cup for us, but clearly we leave with a little bit of a bitter taste in our mouth because after what happened in that second half, we deserved much more," he said. Fluminense coach Renato Gaucho said their fans can be proud for wearing a jersey in the street. "We didn't have many chances, but we made the most of them, the entire group worked and were committed."
