Harry Potter TV reboot series starts filming as more cast members announced

Daily Mirror3 days ago
Production on the new Harry Potter TV series has begun, with further casting announced and filming taking place in Hertfordshire
The eagerly awaited Harry Potter TV series has officially begun production, with additional casting details now revealed. The new HBO adaptation of the beloved fantasy novels is currently being filmed at Warner Bros Studios Leavesden in Watford, Hertfordshire.
On Monday, HBO unveiled further casting news: young actor Rory Wilmot will portray Harry's schoolmate Neville Longbottom, while Amos Kitson has been cast as his cousin Dudley Dursley. Sherlock's Louise Brealey is set to play Hogwarts' Quidditch coach Madam Rolanda Hooch, and Game Of Thrones' Anton Lesser will take on the role of wandmaker Garrick Ollivander.

Each season promises to be a faithful rendition of JK Rowling's Harry Potter books, with the author also serving as an executive producer.

This follows the highly successful film adaptations that featured Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint in the lead roles.
Other previously announced cast members include acclaimed American actor John Lithgow as Hogwarts headmaster Professor Albus Dumbledore, Welsh comedian and actor Paul Whitehouse as Hogwarts caretaker Argus Filch, and The Rivals' Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley.

The first official snapshot from the series showcases McLaughlin dressed as Harry, donning his iconic black robes and red Gryffindor uniform.
Bertie Carvel, who is set to play Cornelius Fudge in HBO's upcoming series, recently revealed he may not remain part of the show beyond the first season. Speaking to The Times, the acclaimed British actor admitted his future in the highly anticipated reboot could hinge on the fans' reaction to his portrayal of the Minister of Magic.
He told his interviewers: "I don't know how it's going to fit into my life. I've read one script, which I loved, and I've read the books.

"I hadn't before I got the role. I think I saw one of the films, maybe two. As a boy if I had read these books I would have devoured them. So I am coming at it with a really open mind.
"Whether I come back [after the first series] probably depends on what the fans think. I mean, I'll be furious if it's not an amazing part."
In addition to the new cast, HBO also confirmed a number of new department heads for the series. These include Director of Photography Adriano Goldman, Hair and Makeup Designer Cate Hall, Stunt Coordinator Paul Herbert and SFX Supervisor Mark Holt.
Mara LePere-Schloop has also joined as Production Designer, with Naomi Moore as Set Decorator. John Nolan is handling Creature Effects, whlie Alexis Wajsbrot is VFX Supervisor and Dom Sidoli is VFX Producer.
Mark Mylod, who previously directed several episodes of HBO's hit drama Succession, will be directing the series. The series is slated for release in 2027 on HBO and HBO Max.

TV fans can now binge ‘must-watch' crime drama after season 2 is confirmed

It's always a solid vote of confidence for a TV show when it gets a season two renewal before the first has even aired. UKTV confirmed that work is already underway on the second instalment of new crime drama Bookish, just as the first season's six episodes dropped on U&Alibi. Set after the Second World War, the drama stars (and was created by) Mark Gatiss, who plays the eccentric secondhand bookshop owner Gabriel Book (a surname and job combination that means much wordplay ensues). Since Gatiss also co-created the classic crime-busting show Sherlock, he's clearly developed a taste for mystery-solving, as his character Gabriel sets about piecing together a series of whodunnits. Armed with a letter from Prime Minister Winston Churchill that allows him to investigate crime scenes despite being a civilian, Gabriel is much like Holmes before him and helps London's coppers on the beat to see what only he has twigged. The old-fashioned drama isn't overly cosy in its crime, nor is it terribly dark, but the show does have serious themes, with debonair Gabriel hiding his sexuality behind a lavender marriage to wife Trottie (Bridgerton's Polly Walker). Set in 1946, this is an era where being openly gay was criminalised. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Gabriel takes on three cases across the new show, with the first being an investigation into some mysterious remains which have been discovered near a bomb site. Co-written with journalist Matthew Sweet, Bookish gives viewers a series of clues so that they can try and crack the case alongside Gabriel – rather than pulling the culprit out of thin air. While the show has only been out to watch on U&Alibi (available via Sky and NOW) for a day, several avid TV-watchers have already got stuck in to the episodes and shared their takes online. Sharing a glowing review on Google, Lorna Mitchell said Bookish was 'absolutely excellent'. More Trending They added: 'Really enjoyed this. Nice storyline and very likeable characters. Not the usual run of the mill detective series.' Steve Mepham had similar thoughts, writing: 'Brilliant acting, a great story and wonderful setting. Mr Gatiss has produced a little gem.' 'Brilliant fun and clever writing, a must watch, light hearted whodunit!,' raved Dan C. View More » Bookish is available to watch on U&Alibi. Got a story? Where was ‘Untamed' filmed? The unexpected locations behind Netflix's Eric Bana mystery

A body falls from a cliff at Yosemite National Park. Could it be a mountain climbing accident or a wild coyote attack? Or does a deeper conspiracy brew in the California park's forests? Eric Bana's special agent Kyle Turner gets to the case in Untamed, Netflix's six-episode miniseries created by Mark L Smith. This isn't the Oscar-nominated screenwriter's first figurative trek through the American wilderness. Smith's previous credits include Leonardo DiCaprio survival drama The Revenant and this year's brutal Netflix western American Primeval. With Untamed, Smith trades his period settings for a more modern timeline, but the tension remains the same. Fans of slow-burning mysteries like Mare of Easttown and True Detective will be hooked on Agent Turner approaching closer to the truth, oozing style with his greyed beard and horseback riding skills. But if you're wondering where Untamed was actually filmed, a few surprises await. Was Untamed actually filmed at Yosemite National Park? Surprisingly not. Set almost entirely in Yosemite, Eric Bana's brooding cop Kyle Turner describes the California wilderness as 'the size of Rhode Island' with 'five separate highway entrances'. But none of the national park actually features in Untamed. Instead, the show's crew set up camp mostly in Canada to film the series – and specifically the province of British Columbia. The Canadian province's valleys, cliffs, and wilderness all doubled convincingly to recreate the green beauty and granite roughness of Yosemite National Park. Mount Seymour Untamed opens with a mountain climbing expedition gone wrong as a body falls off from the top of a cliff. In the show, this cliff is supposed to represent El Capitan, a granite monolith in Yosemite National Park. To recreate El Capitan, Untamed 's production team relied on Mount Seymour. Overlooking the city of Vancouver, the mountain is a popular hiking spot much like the California summit it's supposed to mimic in the show. Some of the areas around Seymour were also incorporated in the Yosemite scenes. Murdo Frazer Park Cabin, North Vancouver Pemberton Avenue is full of cosy-looking properties, but none of them preserve time and ooze a sense of mysticism like this log cabin in the middle of the woods. So, it seems fitting for this location to serve as Agent Turner's own personal cabin. He leads a solitary, ascetic life in this cabin conveniently nestled within wooded trails, creeks, and a spot for him to 'park' his horse. While the log cabin hosts the caretakers of the Murdo Fraser Park, it's a popular filming location now. Previous shows to be filmed here include Supernatural, ABC's Once Upon A Time, and Stargate SG-1. Whistler Olympic Park As its name suggests, the Whistler Olympic Park hosted parts of the 2010 Winter Olympics with events like ski jumping and cross-country skiing. Since the Olympics, it has turned into a public facility. Netflix features the park – outside of snowy season – as one of the many stand-ins for Yosemite National Park. Grace Lake This quaint lake in British Columbia stands in for Grouse Lake, a Yosemite Park lake notorious for its paranormal history. Legend has it that the park's first ranger heard noises of a boy drowning in the lake. Since then, the boy's ghost lures in people to their deaths. This spooky connection is apt for Turner's investigations, as he is haunted by not just the death of the mountain climber from El Capitan but also someone close from his past. Greenwood Park Another park that proved crucial for exterior Yosemite shots was North Vancouver's Greenwood Park. The park's many forested trails feature in Untamed as Kyle Turner and the other forest rangers scrounge for evidence. Deloca Farm, Deroche As Turner collaborates with newly transferred forest ranger Naya Vasquez (Lily Santiago), the duo's findings lead them to a squatter community that leads a hippie-like existence under a cultish leader. The group's open-air base was filmed at Deloca Farm in Deroche. The irony is that Deroche actually hosts an idyllic farming community with a scant population of roughly 140 people. Nita Lake Lodge Yosemite's connection with Indigenous populations and cultures compels Turner to dig deeper into the region's past. His trail leads him to the Yan-O-Pah Hotel, a fancy resort built on Indigenous land and covered in artworks from the local tribes. Nita Lake Lodge, a boutique hotel and spa in Whistler, British Columbia, serves as the setting for the Yan-O-Pah. Interestingly, 'Yan-O-Pah' is the original name of the Vernal Fall, used by the indigenous Miwok people of Yosemite Valley. The name directly translates to 'Valley of the Yosemite' or 'little cloud'. Eagles Hall, Maple Ridge The Eagles Hall in Maple Ridge is a prime spot for hosting public gatherings and weddings. But the hall's wooden architecture was perfect to set up as a base for the Forest Rangers in Untamed. Cheakamus River and 'Balls to the Wall' Waterfall As Turner and Vasquez get closer to the truth, the forest cops indulge in plenty of hiking across forest trails and waterfalls. The Cheakamus River features in these scenes, with its gushing torrents and towering fir and cedars. The river itself is a tributary of the larger Squamish River. Filming also took place at the 'Balls to the Wall' waterfall, a free-flowing drop in the river's middle section that's a popular spot for adventurous paddlers. Who stars in Untamed? Untamed is led by Eric Bana, the Australian star of Troy and Hulk. The role of a divorced, morbid forest agent like Kyle Turner suits Bana, considering his acclaimed turn as a grieving federal agent in the Australian thriller The Dry and its sequel, Force of Nature. Joining Bana is New Zealander Sam Neill. The Jurassic Park and Peaky Blinders star plays Paul Souter, the chief park ranger at Yosemite who has served in the park for half his life. Lily Santiago stars as Naya Vasquez, the Yosemite ranger squad's latest member. Support comes from The Staircase actress Rosemarie DeWitt as Turner's ex-wife and a former counsellor. Meanwhile, fresh off his role as Bullseye in Daredevil: Born Again, Wilson Bethel takes aim as an ex-soldier who now serves as the park's wildlife management officer. When can I watch Untamed?
