‘I went wow': Craig Williams' emotional bond with country star Far Too Easy
Craig Williams has won the Melbourne Cup, The Everest and the Golden Slipper, but it's for emotional reasons that the trophy for scoring the $2m Kosciuszko on Far Too Easy takes pride of place in his bulging trophy cabinet.
The riding legend is about to set up shop riding in the Sunshine State for large parts of the Queensland winter carnival and he kicks off by riding David McColm's star Far Too Easy in the Group 2 Victory Stakes at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Far Too Easy is the horse from northern NSW who has survived raging floodwaters and deadly infections and Williams only knew part of the gelding's remarkable backstory before winning The Kosciuszko at Randwick last October.
Now, Williams fully appreciates all the emotion and can't wait to link with Far Too Easy on Saturday, with McColm's wonder horse a $6 equal favourite in the Victory as he kicks off a Stradbroke Handicap campaign.

'The Kosciuszko trophy takes pride of place in my trophy cabinet at home,' Williams told Racenet.
'And that's because I heard David interviewed after the race and I spent time with him and his family.
'I got a really good understanding of what this horse means to them.
'There is a lot of backstory to this horse.
'I had a connection with the horse but I didn't understand it all to start with.
'But then, after listening to the interview, I went 'wow'.
Williams has seven rides at Eagle Farm on Saturday and said he loves riding in the Queensland winter, where he often makes a semi-permanent home during the carnival.
Queensland has been a happy hunting ground for the Victorian jockey and he has ridden five Group 1 winners in the Sunshine State.
They include scoring consecutive Doomben 10,000s after winning the last two years on Bella Nipotina and Giga Kick.

Far Too Easy is on a Stradbroke Handicap path and Williams says the horse can give the Queensland's most prestigious race a mighty shake.
'On his best form, he is absolutely a great chance in the Stradbroke,' Williams said.
'To sit on his back and ride him, he is such a gentleman and he can produce some phenomenal performances.
'He is a good horse and David is a great horseman.
'I love coming to Queensland and I enjoy the Brisbane carnival to its fullest.'

Meanwhile, Williams will make his first trip to the central Queensland beef capital of Rockhampton when he partners Tony Gollan galloper Comrade Rosa in the $1m The Archer slot race on Sunday.
Comrade Rosa is an $11 chance after drawing barrier 12.
Williams has sought advice from his great mate, recently retired jockey Michael Cahill, about riding on the Rockhampton track.
'I have never been to Rockhampton before, so I am looking forward to it,' Williams said.
'Michael Cahill has told me racetrack in Rockhampton is great and there's a big, long straight.
'He told me I would enjoy my time up there.'

Hawkesbury preview: Rain brings optimism for Stephen O'Halloran

Local trainer Stephen O'Halloran was quite happy to see the rain this week and the track enter the heavy range for his in-form gelding Mal Coupe. The three-year-old was good on the soft when a close second at Canberra first-up this preparation but excelled on the heavy ground when he won his maiden at Bathurst by four-and-a-half lengths. He then followed it up with a solid length second behind Hawker Hall on a Soft 6 at Gosford. With that big win on his resume, Mal Coupe has been a popular on TAB Fixed Odds where he firmed from $5.50 second elect into a $3.20 favourite ahead of Duke Of Bronte ($2.80 to $3.60) in the Essential Asset + Fire Conditional Benchmark 68 Handicap (1100m). 'Even when he got beat at his next start at Gosford, he was pretty good there as well where he ran into a nice horse of Kris Lees'. 'He's very honest and gives a hundred per cent every time he goes around. You can't ask for any more than that. 'I know it's in the heavy range again this week so he's going to get conditions to suit. 'Obviously this race is a benchmark 68 which is stronger than what he has been up against but I don't think he is out of place. 'He's rock hard fit and only carriers 55 and a half kilos. He has ticked the 1100 metres box and the heavy track box. 'It's his home track and hopefully he can get across the line in front. The son of Xtravagant raced well in his first campaign including a debit fifth behind Lady Zodiac and Gunroom at Hawkesbury last October but O'Halloran always knew he would be better this preparation. 'He has definitely come back more mature than he was last preparation and he hasn't put a foot wrong in his three runs so far,' he said. 'He's a home-bred for his owners, Gary and Kay Stevenson, who have been very patient with him. 'He was very immature as a young horse so we have taken our time with him. 'Last preparation was more about education but he showed us a little bit. 'We gave him a nice break and hopefully they reap the rewards with him this preparation.' O'Halloran and the Stevenson's also combine with Rule Of Faith who makes her race debut in the Davo's Dash 2YO Maiden Handicap (1000m). The daughter of Hellbent finished in the second half of the field in her two trials but O'Halloran has seen enough in her trackwork to suggests she has nice ability. 'She is only a two-year-old and was very new when she first came in so she had a couple of short preparations. This campaign is the furthest she has got but she is a nice filly,' he said. 'We gave her two trials. The first at Rosehill when there weren't any in the provincial area and she met good horses there. 'Then she had another trial here where she was caught wide. 'I worked her in blinkers last week and she went really well so she will start with them on. 'Emma Ly has been on in her two trials and knows her well so she will ride her. 'She's an emergency at the moment but I expect there to be a few more scratchings with the way the track is. 'I know she has drawn wide but you probably want to be out there when the track is in the heavy range.' ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ Trainer Amanda Turner said her promising gelding Point Score had genuine excuses for the last start defeat and is ready to bounce back. The striking black colt suffered interference on the home turn which led to further complications when fourth behind Zouripper at Kembla 12 days ago. Prior to that, Point Score sat outside the leader before racing away to an impressive win by nearly two lengths from Mysterious Master and Kilbrannan when resuming on a Heavy 8 at Kembla on May 31. 'He was very good winning at Kembla. He seems to be pretty comfortable on the heavy ground,' said Turner. 'I was disappointed last start, not in his performance but rounding the turn, he was just looming in to it lovely when he was hampered and all but came down. 'He got going again and went to sprint but his race plate shifted and he got two nails stuck in his foot. 'He could have dropped right out but to run fourth was a good effort. 'I really looked after him to make sure nothing came from that. His foot is as good as gold so he is right to go now.' The two-year-old son of Blue Point will again get a heavy track when he lines up against older horses in the Brad Widdup Racing Class 1 Handicap (1000m) with Mollie Fitzgerald to continue her association with him. 'Mollie galloped him last Saturday morning and we were very happy with him,' Turner said. Turner will head to Hawkesbury with another youngster in Over The Limit who makes his debut in the Davo's Dash 2YO Maiden Handicap (1000m). The first crop son of Anders trialled nicely when a length third to Warson in his first heat at Warwick Farm on May 26 and followed up with a win from War King in his second heat there on June 10. 'He is doing well (to get to this point) because this is his first serious preparation,' said Turner. 'His nickname is Tiny because he was so small and last time in, we didn't get to do much at all. 'We gelded him and tipped him out for a good break and he is now almost 16 hands so he has really grown. 'I just want him to have a very good race day experience this week. 'I expect he will be much better next time in.'

Richmond settles with Ty Zantuck over ‘horribly wrong' back treatment claim

Zantuck, who played 68 games for the Tigers between 2000 and 2004, sued the club and two of its doctors, alleging they breached their duty of care. On Wednesday, his South Australian lawyer, Greg Griffin, said the years' long legal battle had been a 'difficult process' but a confidential settlement had been reached. 'All parties are happy to see it finished,' he said. Richmond declined to comment when approached by the Herald Sun. In 2022, a Supreme Court judge granted an extension on the statute of limitation on Zantuck's claim. Justice Mary-Jane Ierodiaconou found the alleged conduct of the football club was 'egregious' and had effectively left Zantuck's 'life crippled'. In court documents, Zantuck claimed his back injury stemmed from a training camp in the Grampians in 2001 where he was required to carry a 30kg backpack despite earlier being diagnosed with stress fractures to his lower back. The former defender claimed to have received between 15 to 20 epidurals, as well as dozens of local anaesthetic injections, in a bid to keep him playing. The court previously heard Zantuck had met with a law firm almost a decade earlier about his back injuries. They told him there was 'nothing the solicitors could do to assist him because no one had ever successfully sued the AFL and its clubs'. 'I'm still traumatised by the whole thing,' Zantuck told an earlier hearing. He alleged the doctors at the football club got his treatment 'horribly wrong' and the injections had 'ruined the muscles in my body'. 'I still love the Richmond Football Club, my two sons barrack for them,' Zantuck said. 'I just think they got the treatment horribly wrong.' Zantuck lodged a separate concussion claim, alleging he was allowed to continue to train and play AFL despite suffering repeated on-field head knocks which had not properly healed. The Herald Sun understands that case is still before the courts.

Had a similar run last start and hit the front before finishing fourth on a Good 4. Can atone back on wet ground. BELLA KHADIJAH (1) had strong Queensland form before heading to Sydney and finishing third to Zarrose at Randwick on Aug 10. Only one run last campaign when a length fifth to Idle Flyer on the Kensington. JOHNNY SMASH (3) won on a heavy track at Wyong two starts back. BET: CUBAN RAIN to win. WA WA WA (6) raced well in his first campaign placings in each of his three runs in metropolitan company including a half-length second to Deal n' Dash at Rosehill. MAL COUPE (8) followed a close second first with a near five length maiden win on a Heavy 8 over 1100m at Bathurst. Stepped up to provincial grade with a length second to Hawker Hall at Gosford. DUKE OF BRONTE (1) kicked off last campaign with three wins from his first four starts including a one on a Heavy 9 at Moruya and a Randwick Highway. Nice Goulburn trial win after sitting wide. OAKFIELD BADGER (2) drops back from two fourth placings in Rosehill Midways. UNUSUAL PROSPECT (5) debuted in New Zealand with a close second over 2000m on a Soft 7 then came to Australia and was a head second to Gwendie over 1600m. Returned this campaign with a nice win from The Beast on a Soft 6 at Gosford. Hard to go past again. ALLEGRO MISS (10) won on a Heavy 10 at Newcastle followed by a couple of handy runs on wet ground in Randwick Midways. Was sixth on a Good track at Kembla last start. Will appreciate getting back on the wet. AKKADIAN EMPEROR (1) is a winner at his only run here.
