Coldplay perform hit song for first time in 9 years
The British band was in Texas on June 14, performing to a huge crowd while on their North American leg of their 2025 Music of the Spheres tour.
Towards the end of their concert, frontman Chris Martin announced to the crowd that they were going to attempt to sing a hit song from their 2005 album X&Y, Speed of Sound.
'To finish a good time here in El Paso, why don't we try and reclaim the song Speed of Sound?' which was met with an eruption of cheers from the crowd.
He then promised that the band would at some point release a cleaner version of the song, admitting that he wanted to improve the tune.
'At some point, we'll do a proper edit of the song. Just do a remix, I'd like to make it a little bit quicker, a little bit shorter, a little bit tighter, maybe mix the drums slightly.
'You understand? And it'll just be a much better song, Will! I'm so sorry I messed it up when I was a young man,' he said, speaking to the band piano player Will Champion.
He then said to the crowd: 'For those of you who were not born in 2005, here's Speed of Sound, it's not that good, but we're going to try and play it anyway!'
The song was met with cheers from the crowd, who appeared to be delighted with this change in the set list and applauded the band.
The Music of Spheres tour kicked off in 2022 and is scheduled to end at London's Wembley Stadium on September 8, 2025.

The song was the lead single for the 2005 album that Chris wrote for her daughter, Apple, in 2004.
It charted in the UK singles chart at number two and debuted in the US at number eight on the Billboard Hot 100. This was a milestone for the band at the time as their first top 10 hit.
The hit was even nominated for two Grammy Awards and won an MTV Europe Music Award for Best Song.
It was the band's highest ever peaking song until Viva La Vida in 2008.
Despite the song's success, the band and Chris have been open about their dislike of the song.

The band last performed the song live in 2016, when they were on their seventh concert tour, A Head Full of Dreams Tour.
The tour was in support of their seventh studio album of the same name, which featured hits including: Hymn for the Weekend, Adventure of a Lifetime, Up&Up, and Birds.
While Speed of Sound wasn't on their set list, they performed the tune in Sao Paulo as a surprise song when they asked concert goers to send in requests for an extra tune on the set list.

Posing for a video, George claps back at critics who insist they 'can't see' any weight loss despite his claims. 'No weight loss? Are you insane?' George roars, before Sienna chimes in: 'He's wasting away at this point.' In another TikTok, George points to his still large belly and jokes: 'There's a six pack there - look at that.' The pair maintain that they choose willingly to 'embarrass themselves' online because it gives them the financial freedom to work non-conventional jobs and spend more time together. Sienna wrote: 'Yes, we may embarrass ourselves on the internet for a living, but it means we get to spend every school holiday with our son, send him to the best school and have the freedom to work when we choose to.' Chart-topping music star accused of lying about her age
Nicki Minaj 's ongoing feud with R&B singer SZA has taken another ugly turn. After the pair exchanged insults on X (formerly Twitter) this week, Minaj, 42, took things further by accusing SZA, 35, of lying about her age. In a since-deleted post, the Super Bass rapper said that SZA is in her 'mid forties' before demanding to see her birth certificate. Despite swiftly deleting the post, it didn't stop fans from screenshotting it and sharing it all over social media. 'You really can't make this up….. SZA's barely mid-30's and Nicki's pushing 50,' commented one. 'A woman in her almost mid 40's…trying to shame another woman for being mid 40's when she's not…' wrote a second. 'Nicki is too old to be doing all this s**t. I hope SZA doesn't give her the attention,' a third commented. Another posted, 'Girl I was shocked when I knew that [SZA's] 35yo. I thought she was like 25 or something. Your a** is just jealous.' There's currently no evidence to support Nicki's baseless claims that SZA is being dishonest about her age. First Royal Mint coin to celebrate Anne goes on sale for her 75th birthday
The Royal Mint's commemorative £5 piece, dubbed its 'Anne-iversary coin', was personally approved by the princess. It features a portrait of the King's sister wearing the Aquamarine Pineflower Tiara with her hair swept up in her signature bouffant style. The design is framed with the inscription 'The Princess Royal – Celebrating 75 Years – Duty and Devotion' in tribute to Anne's steadfast royal duty over the decades. Anne, often viewed as the hardest working member of the royal family, turns 75 on August 15, but so far has insisted her milestone should only be publicly marked by a charities forum she hosted at Buckingham Palace in June. Rebecca Morgan, director of commemorative coin at the Royal Mint, said: 'For the first time in British numismatic history, we are honoured to celebrate the Princess Royal on an official UK coin. 'Her Royal Highness's unwavering commitment to public service, charitable work, and support of His Majesty's armed forces over seven and a half decades makes her truly deserving of this tribute.' To the right of the princess's portrait is a depiction of her official coat of arms, and on the obverse is the King, who gave the creation its final sign-off in honour of his sister. Thomas T Docherty, who designed the coin, said it reflected the princess's 'strength of character' and 'understated elegance'. The portrait of Anne's head is based on a photograph of the princess taken by John Swannell, a Royal Photographic Society fellow, and shows her staring directly at the camera. Mr Docherty said: 'I wanted to capture Her Royal Highness's remarkable legacy and dedication to public service. 'The portrait reflects her strength of character and unwavering commitment to duty.' He added: 'It was really by observing Princess Anne and looking at the role she plays within not only her family but the nation and the Commonwealth that formed inspiration for the design of the coin. 'She has, I would say, a kind of understated elegance and strength.' Mr Docherty continued: 'Being Scottish, I admire the Princess Royal's dedication to Scottish organisations and communities, and I hope this coin serves as a fitting tribute.' The art deco-style diamond and aquamarine Cartier tiara Anne is wearing was a wedding anniversary present from King George VI to his wife Queen Elizabeth, later the Queen Mother, who went on to give it as a wedding gift to her granddaughter Anne in 1973. The princess is also wearing an aquamarine pendant and matching earrings, both believed to have been made using stones from the tiara when Anne had it remodelled in the 1990s. Anne, the only daughter of the late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, is known for her no fuss approach. She has survived a kidnapping attempt, competed in the Olympics and spent decades supporting her mother before becoming a vital part of the King's slimmed-down working monarchy. The princess carried out nearly 400 official engagements in 2024 – the most of any member of the royal family – despite it being the year she was rushed to intensive care, spending five nights in hospital after she was believed to have been struck by a horse. The commemorative coin is available to purchase from the Royal Mint's website on July 18, costing £17.50 for the brilliant uncirculated edition. Other versions of the £5 coin are also available, with a silver proof priced at £110, a silver proof piedfort costing £208, and gold proof for £4,110. The coin is also being sold as part of three sets which also feature either a single George VI threepence or florin or multiple George VI coins from 1950, the year the princess was born, with the prices ranging from £25 to £4,500.
