Helldivers 2 is officially releasing on Xbox Series S and S consoles on 26 August, making it the first time a PlayStation-published title arrives on Xbox. Helldivers 2 is officially getting crossplay on Xbox, meaning you'll be able to squad up with PS5 and PC players as well.In an Xbox Wire post, Microsoft announced the news that Helldivers 2 would be coming to Xbox Series consoles on the same day as Gears of War: Reloaded comes to PlayStation 5.'We know gamers have been asking for this for some time and we are so excited to bring more Helldivers into our game," the game director for Helldivers 2, Mikael Erikkson said. "We have so much more in store for the future months and years – and the more players we have the more stories we can tell! The fight for Super Earth has only just begun.'Helldivers 2 on Xbox Series X|S will also support crossplay, so those on Xbox, PS5 and PC can all play together in spite of being on different platforms. According to a report in The Shortcut, this is probably for the first time that Sony has released a PlayStation Studios published title on Xbox consoles. Like its PC and PlayStation 5 counterparts, Helldivers 2 will be available in two editions: Standard and Super Citizen. The latter gets you an exclusive in-game tag that you can show off, an extra Premium Warbond, an extra piece of armour, a weapon and most importantly, the ability to practice Strategems on your ship. The last perk is handy because most of the powerful Strategems, like the Orbital Laser and 380 mm cannons, require complex, lightning-quick inputs in the heat of battle.

Microsoft closes its Pakistan office after 25 years

Karachi: Tech giant Microsoft has announced to shut down its limited operations in Pakistan as part of its global strategy to reduce workforce, which various stakeholders termed on Friday as a "troubling sign" for the country's economy. Microsoft, while closing its office in Pakistan on Thursday after 25 years, cited global restructuring and a shift to a cloud-based, partner-led model. The move came as the tech giant cut roughly 9,100 jobs worldwide (or about 4 per cent of its workforce) in its largest layoff round since 2023. Jawwad Rehman, former founding Country Manager of Microsoft Pakistan , urged the government and IT minister to engage with the tech giants with a bold KPI (Key Performance Indicators) driven plan. He said the exit reflected the current business climate. "Even global giants like Microsoft find it unsustainable to stay," he posted on LinkedIn. Former Pakistan president Arif Alvi, in a post on X, also expressed concern over Microsoft shutting down operations. "It is a troubling sign for our economic future," he wrote. He claimed Microsoft once considered Pakistan for expansion, but that instability led the company to choose Vietnam instead by late 2022. "The opportunity was lost," he wrote. Jawwad explained that Microsoft didn't operate a full commercial base in Pakistan, relying instead on liaison offices focused on enterprise, education, and government clients. Over recent years, much of that work had already shifted to local partners, while licensing and contracts were managed from its European hub in Ireland.

Microsoft has announced substantial layoffs impacting as many as 9,000 employees across its various divisions, also impacting its Xbox division, with numerous studio closures, game cancellations and widespread layoffs. The exact number of affected Xbox employees remains undisclosed. Reports indicate that over 70 staff members at Turn 10 Studios, the developer behind Forza Motorsport, will be let go, affecting the "vast majority" of the studio's personnel. The Initiative and Perfect Dark: One of Microsoft's newer studios, The Initiative, is reportedly closing, leading to the cancellation of its first game, a new Perfect Dark. Romero Games: Funding for a new, unannounced game from Romero Games, headed by John and Brenda Romero, has been canceled by its publisher, believed to be Microsoft.
