‘Electing Him Is A Folly': Netanyahu Dismisses Zohran Mamdani's ‘Nonsense' Vision For New York
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu criticized New York City Democratic mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani during an appearance on 'The Full Send Podcast" with the Nelk Boys, calling some of Zohran Mamdani's campaign proposals 'nonsense" and predicting he would serve only one term if elected.
Benjamin Netanyahu, when talking about antisemitism referred to Zohran Mamdani as an 'antisemite", adding, 'A lot of people have been taken in by this nonsense. You want to defund the police? You want to have people go into stores and rob them and be free, you think that creates a good society?"
Zohran Mamdani has not called for defunding the New York Police Department but has proposed reallocating resources within the department to prioritize serious crimes while maintaining the current headcount.
Benjamin Netanyahu also criticized Zohran Mamdani's plan to raise taxes on the city's wealthiest residents, saying, 'You want to crush all enterprise? You want to tax people to death? I mean, that's a one-term effort. Sometimes you have to get mugged by reality to understand how stupid that is."
Benjamin Netanyahu added that he was 'not happy" with Zohran Mamdani's primary win, calling his candidacy a 'temporary folly." He said, 'I'm less concerned with it because I think if we can speak the truth to the young people of America, you know they wise up pretty quickly."
Zohran Mamdani has drawn attention for his criticism of Israel's military actions- which he has referred to as a 'genocide." He has said that if elected mayor, New York City would arrest Benjamin Netanyahu should he visit, citing a warrant issued by the International Criminal Court. Tel Aviv has denied the genocide accusation and said that it does not recognize the ICC's jurisdiction.
Meanwhile, Zohran Mamdani has denied being antisemitic and pointed to endorsements from prominent Jewish leaders, including City Comptroller Brad Lander and US Representative Jerry Nadler.

‘No Other Land' collaborator Odeh Hathalin shot dead by Israeli settler in West Bank
Palestinian activist and No Other Land collaborator Odeh Hathalin was killed on Monday after being shot by an Israeli settler in the occupied West Bank, according to multiple reports. Hathalin was reportedly shot in the chest near the village of Umm al-Khair, south of Hebron. Israeli journalist and No Other Land co-director Yuval Abraham first reported the shooting, stating that Hathalin had sustained critical injuries after being struck in the upper body. The Palestinian Health Ministry later confirmed his death. His death adds to the growing toll of violence in the region, which has escalated significantly over the past year. Odeh just died. Murdered. — Yuval Abraham יובל אברהם (@yuval_abraham) July 28, 2025 The Israeli police said a civilian was detained at the scene and arrested for questioning but did not release the individual's name. Israeli military sources told CNN that the incident occurred after 'terrorists hurled rocks toward Israeli civilians near Carmel,' a nearby settlement. Abraham also pointed to the legal imbalance in the aftermath of the killing. He noted that after Odeh was shot, the accused settler allegedly directed soldiers to detain four members of Odeh's family — who remain in custody — while the shooter himself was later released to house arrest. Multiple Israeli media outlets have identified the alleged shooter as Yinon Levi, a settler previously sanctioned by the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada for violence against Palestinians. Basel Adra, a co-director of No Other Land and a longtime friend of Hathalin, shared a tribute on social media. 'He was standing in front of the community settler in his village when a settler fired a bullet that pierced his chest and took his life,' Adra wrote. 'This is how Israel erases us — one life at a time.'

India's Seafood Exports To UK Set For 70% Growth Under New Trade Deal
Last Updated: India's seafood industry expects 70% export growth to the UK under CETA, driven by tariff eliminations. The FTA, signed during PM Modi's UK visit, boosts exports. India's seafood industry is poised for 70 per cent export growth to UK under the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), driven by the elimination of tariffs on a wide range of marine products, according to DD News report. India and the United Kingdom signed a landmark Free Trade Agreement (FTA) on July 24 —a deal anticipated to open up billions of dollars in trade and investment opportunities for both countries. The signing came as Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a visit to the UK—his fourth since assuming office in 2014. During the trip, he is scheduled to hold comprehensive talks with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer before departing for the Maldives on July 25. The FTA with UK is expected to boost the export of labour-intensive items such as gems, jewellery, textiles, marine products, leather, footwear, sports goods and toys. According to a statement by the commerce ministry, other key exports like engineering goods, auto parts and engines and organic chemicals are also expected to get a boost. Grants Zero-Duty Access On 99% Tariff Lines India's Seafood Export In FY25, India's seafood exports stood at $7.38 billion (Rs 60,523 crore), with frozen shrimp alone contributing $4.88 billion (66%), as per DD News report. The UK accounted for $104 million, including $80 million worth of frozen shrimp, yet India holds just a 2.25% share in the UK's $5.4 billion seafood import market. With the new duty-free access, Indian exporters are now better placed to compete with nations like Vietnam and Singapore, which already enjoy free trade benefits with the UK. India's fisheries sector supports 28 million livelihoods and contributes 8% of global fish production. From 2014–15 to 2024–25, seafood exports grew 60% in volume to 16.85 lakh metric tonnes and 88% in value to Rs 62,408 crore. Coastal states like Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Gujarat are expected to lead the charge in leveraging CETA, provided they meet the UK's stringent sanitary and phytosanitary standards. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
