Complex Financing For Micro Enterprises In Indonesia Wins Grunin Prize

In Indonesia, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are a significant part of the economy, providing 60% of GDP and employing 97% of the workforce. Many of those businesses are micro enterprises—and access to financing gets harder the further down the pyramid you go, especially in rural areas. Feng Lin, senior counsel at IFC With that in mind, two years ago, International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector arm of the World Bank, and PT Amartha Mikro Finance (Amartha), a fintech P2P platform that uses alternative data and technology to reach borrowers not served by traditional banks, started work on a new structure for providing micro-finance loans to under-served female micro entrepreneurs in rural Indonesia. The structure, they figured, would allow Amartha to tap financing that could potentially be scaled to up to $206 million and help women borrowers in rural and small towns to get access to $50 to $1,000 loans. The two organizations then reached out to legal counsel to help create the complex approach. Eventually, that included IFC Legal (IFC's in-house legal team), Pinsent Masons (IFC's external counsel, English and Singapore Law), Jardin Legal (IFC's external counsel, Indonesian law) and TRILEXICA (Amartha's external counsel, Indonesian law). The project just won the 2025 Grunin Prize for Law and Social Entrepreneurship. Administered by NYU School of Law's Grunin Center for Law and Social Entrepreneurship, 'it aims to reward the innovation, potential impact, and replicability and/or scalability of projects and solutions developed by lawyers to advance the fields of social entrepreneurship, impact investing and sustainable development.' Challenges and Features Because many potential borrowers live in areas without bank branches, Amartha's digital lending capability was essential. In addition, many aren't likely to get bank financing in the first place. But, while Amartha had technology and data, it also had small balance sheets. Plus, according to Feng Lin, senior counsel at IFC, there was no securitization framework in Indonesia. 'In a conventional securitization, you need to have an existing portfolio on the balance sheet that you purchase. You purchase the risk and reward, and you are at the back end,' says Asif Mustaqim, principal invstment officer at IFC. 'But in this case, the balance sheets were very small. So we had to come up with a structure whereby you delivered a securitization type of instrument and investors who came in would take the full risk and reward.' (l to r) James Harris, partner at Pinsent Masons, Asif Mustaqim, principal investment officer at ... More IFC, and Feng Lin With no existing portfolio, how to bridge the gap? The answer was to create a structure with junior and senior tranches, establishing an orphan Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) in Singapore to act as the lender of record. Thus, Amartha would service the loans, with lenders funding the SPV, which would draw down tranches as needed and directly lend to entrepreneurs. 'The solution worked to deal with both local regulatory constraints and the limitation caused by the small balance sheet,' says Lin. IFC and eight investors contributed approximately $170 million. Specifically, IFC committed $25 million and attracted the rest from banks, impact funds, and global insurers. There's also interest from fintechs and banks in the Philippines, Japan, and Hong Kong in replicating the model, according to Mustaqim.

I've been tracking Nintendo Switch 2 restocks for weeks. Best Buy has the next big one

The Nintendo Switch 2 has been out for nearly a month, and due to its record-breaking sales, Nintendo Switch 2 restocks can still be hard to come by. Fortunately, we've been watching Switch 2 stock obsessively ever since the system's launch, and have assembled some expert tips for getting a jump on the next big drop and bringing home Nintendo's hot new console as soon as possible. And while the Switch 2 can still be elusive at many stores, the situation is certainly improving. The Switch 2 has already cemented its place among the best consoles you can buy, with better Joy-Cons and a bigger screen in handheld mode, and enough power to run gorgeous games like Mario Kart World and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in 4K once you connect to a TV. It takes everything that made the Switch such a special gaming experience and just goes bigger and better. I know you're itching to join in on the fun, which is why I've been trawling top retailers and scouring Reddit threads in order to give you the latest on the restock situation. Here's where to shop — and what to know — to get your hands on a Switch 2 in the near future. And if you're wondering which Nintendo Switch 2 accessories are in stock right now, we've got you covered there too. Nintendo Switch 2 The Nintendo Switch 2 improves on the company's beloved hybrid console with smooth 4K gameplay, better online functionality and some great new games, such as Mario Kart World. Read our review As of this writing, the Nintendo Switch 2 is officially sold at most major retailers, including Walmart, Target, Best Buy and GameStop (curiously, the system has yet to show up on Amazon in the US). If you're feeling impatient, resellers on sites like eBay and StockX are selling the console, though you'll have to shop at your own risk — and pay a pretty significant markup to boot. Below are links to every big store selling the Switch 2 for your bookmarking needs, as well as some specific quirks you should know about each shop. Walmart Walmart has listings for both the $450 Nintendo Switch 2 and $500 Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle, and might be your best shot at getting the console. The company recently had a console drop on June 25 that was exclusive to Walmart+ members. We've seen Walmart do this in the past with PS5 and Xbox Series X console drops, and wouldn't be surprised to see more member-exclusive Switch 2 restocks in the future. We'd recommend considering a subscription (it starts at $13 a month and includes perks like free shipping and no-fee grocery delivery) if you want the best chance at buying one. Note that you'll need to be a paid Walmart+ member to take advantage of the restock; free trial memberships won't get you in. Target Like other stores, Target has pages for both the Nintendo Switch 2 and Mario Kart World bundle. Target's website showed us plenty of stores in New York City that have the console in stock, though it's not available for online pickup, meaning you'll have to simply show up and try to buy one outright. If you're in less of a rush and are signed into your Target account, you can click 'notify me when it's back' to get an email alert when the console is available. GameStop According to GameStop's website, the popular gaming retailer is selling the Nintendo Switch 2 and Mario Kart World bundle exclusively at its physical stores. You can click the 'Find a Store' button on each respective page to see if it's at your location. As of our last check, the standard Switch 2 store listing reads 'Nintendo Switch 2 restocks are coming! Shop in person to grab yours!' Given that, your best option is popping by your nearest shop regularly. Best Buy Best Buy lists both the Nintendo Switch 2 and Mario Kart World bundle on its website, but as of our last check, both models appear to be sold out. As such, your best bet (and only bet, really) is to head to your nearest location and ask if stock is available. According to Best Buy's Switch 2 landing page, the retailer will have the console in stock at select stores starting on July 1. You can check to see if your local Best Buy will be participating right on the website; if it is, we recommend getting there as early as possible. Staples Staples currently lists the Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle on its site for both delivery and one-hour pickup. As of our last stock check, both are currently showing as unavailable for me, but your mileage may vary based on your location. For what it's worth, some users on Reddit reported having an easy time buying one in person there. Costco Wholesale retailer Costco currently offers a $525 version of the Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle that includes a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership and is exclusive to Costco members. Its status is currently listed as out of stock, but your mileage may vary in person. Nintendo What about going straight to the source? If you go to Nintendo's website and sign into your account, you can register your interest in buying a Switch 2 and receive an email invite once a system becomes available. Note that you'll have to have logged at least 50 hours of gameplay on your Switch as of April 2, 2025, to be eligible. I know several folks who just got their availability email well after the system came out, so don't give up hope if you haven't gotten yours yet. If you're lucky enough to live near one of Nintendo's flagship stores in New York City or San Francisco, be sure to give those a shot as well. At least one shopper on Reddit claimed that they were able to simply walk into Nintendo New York at the end of the day in late June and pick up a console, noting that both the regular and Mario Kart World bundles were in stock. Make sure your shopping accounts are set up The last thing you want to do is miss an elusive restock because you were scrambling to create an account and find your credit card. As such, make sure you have an account at your preferred retailers (if not all the ones we've listed above), stay signed in and have a payment method set up in advance. Some retailers, such as Target, allow you to sign up for alerts to be notified once the system is back in stock, which we recommend doing. Follow trusted stock trackers Fortunately for aspiring Switch 2 owners, there are plenty of folks — Wario64, CheapAssGamer, The Shortcut — working tirelessly around the clock to find you a console. These are all resources we've followed and used for years that often provide up-to-the-minute updates on when the next big restock is happening. If you're on the social platform X, we recommend giving them a follow and turning on notifications so you don't miss a big drop. Several users on Reddit have reported that inventory lookup site PopFindr has helped them land a Switch 2 from their local stores as well. Consider a membership for future access Back when the PS5 and Xbox Series X were scarcer, select retailers — including Walmart+, My Best Buy Total and Amazon Prime — would offer exclusive drops for those subscribed to their premium memberships. GameStop PowerUp Pro members have also gotten early dibs on in-store restocks. We've already seen at least one Nintendo Switch 2 restock that was exclusive to Walmart+ members, and we imagine it won't be the last. While some Switch 2 accessories are also selling out fast, most of the essential ones are far more readily available than the console itself. Here are some of the official add-ons you can buy right now. Nintendo Switch 2 Camera This camera will let you video chat with your friends in GameChat and even put yourself in select games via the system's CameraPlay feature. Just about any USB webcam will work with your Switch 2, though Nintendo's version does include a handy base that sits well in entertainment centers and on tables. Nintendo Joy-Con 2 If you want a spare pair of Joy-Cons handy for your next big Mario Kart tournament, get ready to pay up. The latest versions of Nintendo's iconic detachable controllers don't come cheap, though their larger design does make them more ideal for when you split them off and use each one as its own controller. You can even use them in Mouse mode to play Fortnite like a pro. Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller Another pricey but well-made accessory, the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller improves on the original with a lighter, more comfortable design and programmable back buttons that can be very handy in certain competitive games. Nintendo Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip A step up from the Joy-Con 2 Grip you get out of the box, this charging grip can keep your Joy-Cons juiced up and also gets you the same extra GL and GR buttons found on the new Pro Controller. Nintendo Joy-Con 2 Wheels, 2-Pack If you want your Mario Kart World or Ridge Racer sessions to feel a bit more like driving an actual car, this two-pack of wheel attachments for your Joy-Cons will do the trick. Nintendo Switch 2 Carrying Case and Screen Protector Nintendo's official Carrying Case features a soft outer shell, room for a handful of Game Cards, a cleaning cloth and a screen protector for keeping your display safe from scratches and nicks. Is the Nintendo Switch 2 available for purchase on Amazon? Is the Nintendo Switch 2 available for purchase on Amazon? As of this writing, the Nintendo Switch 2 is conspicuously absent from Amazon in the US, though most third-party games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Sonic X Shadow Generations are available at the retailer. Are Nintendo Switch 2 accessories in stock? Are Nintendo Switch 2 accessories in stock? As of our last check, most Switch 2 accessories — including the Pro Controller, Switch 2 camera and additional Joy-Con 2 controllers — are still in stock at most retailers. See above for a full list of available add-ons. Is it better to shop online or in-store to get a Nintendo Switch 2 faster? Is it better to shop online or in-store to get a Nintendo Switch 2 faster? This really depends on where you live (as well as some plain old luck), but based on the many Reddit threads and Instagram posts we've trawled, anecdotal evidence would suggest it's a bit easier to score a Nintendo Switch 2 by simply heading to your local retailer. That said, it never hurts to have your shopping accounts ready at the big retailers in the event that an online restock pops up. CNN Underscored has a team of writers and editors who have many years of experience testing, researching and recommending products, and they ensure each article is carefully edited and products are properly vetted. Senior tech editor Mike Andronico has been covering gaming for more than a decade and been doing tested reviews of Nintendo consoles since the Nintendo 3DS (which is still in his top five consoles). He's been playing Mario Kart World and Street Fighter 6 pretty obsessively and wants to help you get your own Nintendo Switch 2 so you can do the same.
