UN official calls potential Israeli takeover of Gaza 'deeply alarming'
The United Nations on Tuesday called reports about a possible decision to expand Israel's military operations throughout the Gaza Strip "deeply alarming" if true. UN Assistant Secretary-General Miroslav Jenca told a Security Council meeting on the situation in Gaza that such a move "would risk catastrophic consequences... and could further endanger the lives of the remaining hostages in Gaza". "International law is clear in the regard, Gaza is and must remain an integral part of the future Palestinian state," he added. - Reporting by Reuters

UAE condemns Israeli storming of Al-Aqsa mosque as 'extremist act'
UAE strongly condemned the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and settlers under Israeli police protection, describing it as a provocative escalation and an unacceptable extremist act. In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on the Israeli government to assume its responsibilities, condemn these provocative practices, and hold all those involved accountable, particularly Israeli ministers and officials. The UAE affirmed that these repeated attacks, along with the accompanying incitement to hatred and violence, constitute a systematic extremist campaign that not only targets the Palestinian people but also threatens social peace, leading to an escalation of tensions. The ministry stressed the need to respect the historical and legal status quo at Al-Aqsa Mosque, ensure the protection of all religious sanctities, and respect the role of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in overseeing the endowments and managing the affairs of Al-Aqsa Mosque. Israel's far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir visited the flashpoint Al-Aqsa mosque compound in Jerusalem on Sunday and said he prayed there, challenging rules under a delicate decades-old "status quo" arrangement with Muslim authorities.

UN experts demand 'immediate dismantling' of GHF
UN experts have slammed the Israeli and US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), which has been previously criticised for its militarised aid distribution mechanism. The experts described the organisation as an "utterly disturbing example of how humanitarian relief can be exploited for covert military and geopolitical agendas in serious breach of international law". "The credibility and effectiveness of humanitarian assistance must be restored by dismantling the GHF, holding it and its executives accountable, and allowing experienced and humanitarian actors from the UN and civil society alike to take back the reins of managing and distributing lifesaving aid." They concluded with demands for UN Member States to impose a complete arms embargo on Israel "due to its multiple violations of international law", end trade agreements that could harm Palestinians alongside holding coporations accountable.
