Abhishek Bachchan calls daughter Aaradhya ‘most beautiful woman'; feels embarrassed when Amitabh Bachchan praises him: ‘He is 83'

Indian Express16 hours ago
Abhishek Bachchan recently completed 25 years in the film industry. While the actor has played many roles in his long career, lately his choice of characters has mostly been of a father or a father-figure. His upcoming film Kaalidhar Laapata also revolves around the same subject. In a recent interaction, Abhishek revealed the reason behind this pattern and also talked about his father and superstar Amitabh Bachchan praising him unabashedly on social media.
In an interaction with The Hollywood Reporter, Abhishek discussed how his character in Kaalidhar Laapata is about a man who spends his life fulfilling his family's needs, only to realise that he hasn't done anything for himself. Talking about the same, he said, 'The theme struck a chord with me, apart from the various layers of the subtext, was that it's never too late to go and try and fulfil a dream that hasn't been fulfilled, and I don't look upon that as a midlife crisis, but there are a lot of us that have sacrificed a lot for our families and finally realise that I've done so much for my family, what about me? I love the simplicity of what he wanted to do.'
Abhishek has been able to relate to his recent characters because of his personal life and his equation with his daughter Aaradhya Bachchan. He said, 'I don't think I am actively seeking such roles but I have noticed the common thread and I attribute it to the most beautiful woman in the world, my daughter. Artists go through phases in life and when I started with Breathe, then Ludo, Bob, Be Happy, I Wanna Talk, Kaalidhar Laapata – I understood that paternal emotion in those because I was also witnessing and experiencing that in my real life. I don't know if Aaradhya wasn't around whether I'd still be experiencing those emotions or feel them as acutely. They also happened because that relationship spoke to me because I used to experience that with her.'
'When Hope, I can call him (Amitabh) my fan,' Abhishek said as he discussed the praise that he sees his father write on social media about his films and performances. Speaking about Big B, he said, 'I think he's an overzealous, emotional father right now, and that's the one thing I love about him. You know, in the initial parts of my career? We never expressed all that. I think he used to feel scared that 'I don't look like you know…'. He is doing a lot of it now. You can't blame him, he is 83.'
He added, 'Most people forget that apart from being the great Amitabh Bachchan, he is also a father.' Admitting that he feels embarrassed seeing his father write words of praise for him on social media, he said, 'I feel very embarrassed when he writes all the things, I don't know how to respond.'

‘Dialogue bolne aata nahi hai': Abhishek Bachchan recalls when Amitabh Bachchan scolded him on first day of Sarkar shoot

Jul 02, 2025 06:02 AM IST Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan shared screen space in the political crime thriller Sarkar. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Abhishek recalled how he was petrified on the first day of shoot, when he had to share the screen with his father. He later received a scolding from Amitabh inside his car, which left him 'destroyed.' (Also read: Amitabh Bachchan bows to son Abhishek Bachchan, praises him on completing 25 years in films: 'He is worthy of praise') Amitabh Bachchan scolded Abhishek Bachchan after a tense day on the sets of Sarkar. During the interaction, Abhishek recalled the incident and began, 'The first time we shot together was for Sarkar. Ramu [Ram Gopal Varma] said that we'll do some test shoots, and then I could go away and shoot Bunty Aur Babli. This was September 2004. First day, I was panicking and sweating. He says to me, 'Shankar', and all I had to do was turn around and say, 'Ji?' I was petrified, I was literally shaking. He has that effect.' 'Isiliye maine itne saal mehnat…' He went on to add that the shoot got over and he waited in his vanity van for a while to leave after his dad left the set. But that did not happen as Amitabh knocked on his vanity van and suggested they both go home together. Abhishek then described how that ride panned out. "The entire ride back was spent in pin-drop silence. He is just looking straight. When they pulled into their bungalow's driveway, the staff got out, leaving the two of them alone in the car. He's just sitting there, and then, in 48 frames, he turned to me. 'Isiliye maine itne saal mehnat karke tumhe padhaya likhaya? Dialogue bolna aata nahi hai tumhe (Is this why I worked so hard and spent so much on your education? You can't even say a line properly).' I felt like I had murdered someone, the way he looked at me. He just destroyed me,' he said. Abhishek recently completed 25 years in films. He made his acting debut with JP Dutta's Refugee. He will be next seen in Kaalidhar Laapata, which will premiere on Zee5 on July 4.
