Amazon shoppers blown away by 'military-grade' £59 smartwatch with 'cool features'
Amazon shoppers have been raving about a "stylish and expensive" smartwatch that is also incredibly "durable." People were quick to praise the device, which is on sale for less than £100, making it ideal for people wanting an affordable option other than Apple or Samsung.
The Dreamac Military Smartwatch is available for £59.99 on Amazon, considerably less than leading brands like Apple, Fitbit and Garmin often charge. Amazon says the device is made to "military-grade" standards and can "effectively cope with all kinds of harsh environments" as well as daily life, from working, playing, exploring, or travelling.
The waterproof smartwatch is made from a wear-resistant material to provide effective protection from various elements, including shock, temperature, pressure, liquid, sand, dust, water and impact. Beyond "looking good", it also earns its 'smart' status thanks to a range of different features.
With the built-in speakers and microphone, Amazon says it is easy to make and receive smartwatch calls. The device also gives on-the-wrist notifications from various social media apps, text messages, and emails that come from your mobile phone.
It also acts as a fitness tracker, with over 120 different sport programmes to log and record your workouts. During the day, it can count steps and calories burned in real time, and at night, it can chart your sleep quality for "all-around health monitoring".
Amazon also claims that the device has incredible battery life, meaning it needs less time to charge. The online seller claims that it may last "longer than a traditional smartwatch" and suggests that the power may last up to a week with general day-to-day use from one charge.
Similar devices are on the market for people wanting an affordable way into the smartwatch world without spending hundreds of pounds. For example, Sports Direct is offering this Karrimor Smart Watch (£19.99, down from £49.99) and the Reflex Active Series 23 Smart Watch from Currys (£39.99), but hundreds preferred this Amazon deal.
In the reviews, one shopper said: "Extremely happy with this watch, it looks great and has excellent functions. It's excellent value for money and has really good build quality. Easy to charge and very comfortable to wear."
Another added: "Looks stylish and expensive. Given the cost against Apple or Samsung, this is brilliant. I bought one for my partner, and after watching him set up, I've just ordered myself one."
A third wrote: "The battery life is outstanding—I've gone weeks without needing a recharge. Plus, the call feature is super handy when I'm on the go." Someone else added: "I didn't take it off when working, it got dirty, sweat on, banged around, slipped under dirty work gloves... And it came through all of that without any damage to speak of. It didn't even scratch the band, much less the screen."
Some did report a few minor issue though, such as the 'always on screen' being "bothersome to wear to bed because it lights up every time it's moved - like when rolling over in your sleep". Another posted a photo and claimed: "Glass already scratched just from normal use".
However, the overall impression of this smartwatch was glowing. Another five-star shopper said: "This is my first venture into the world of smart watches but this thing is really amazing for what it's capable of."
And, one more added: "The battery lasts a super long time (about a week for my use) and the watch is waterproof, so no worries in the shower or in the pool. This is an excellent smartwatch, which I recommend not only for design but also for performance."

Apple... cinemas? Tech giant sues movie theater chain
Apple is suing another fruit-named company — Apple Cinemas — in an attempt to get the small theater company to change its name. Apple Cinemas has reportedly signed a lease to take over a historic cinema and a retail space in San Francisco that had previously been operated by AMC Theaters and CGV Cinemas. The purchase is part of Apple Cinema's overall goal of expanding to 100 locations across the country over the next 10 years. Apple entered a lawsuit on Friday in Massachusetts alleging that the theater company is infringing on its trademark and using its brand to trick consumers into thinking they're attending a cinema operated by the tech company. Apple does have a cinema division — Apple Studios — which it began in 2019, but Apple has been offering movie-adjacent entertainment since 1999 via its QuickTime Movie Trailers. The tech company also held cinema events, including some in connection with the Tribeca Film Festival. The cinema company began its operations in 2013 when it opened its first theater in Massachusetts. The company says its name is from it's initial plans to open its first theater in the Apple Valley Mall in New England, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The company primarily operated in the northeast until it laid out its plans to expand to San Francisco and other parts of the country in 2024. Sand Media — Apple Cinema's parent company — filed an application for the name "Apple Cinematic Experience" but was denied. A trademark examiner ruled that the name might cause confusion between Apple Cinemas and the tech company. Apple responded to that branding attempt by sending Sand Media a cease and desist letter. It further claims that Apple Cinemas began using a stylized apple for its logo and began focusing its expansion on malls and shopping centers where Apple Stores were already present. According to the lawsuit, the similar names resulted in landlords at these locations assuming that Apple Cinemas was affiliated with the tech brand. Apple alleges that Apple Cinemas was given favorable deals to open in some areas as a result of the presumed connection. Further driving the tech giant's lawsuit are claims that some customers have had negative experiences with Apple Cinemas. Some customers have complained that the theaters are "greasy," "dirty" and "grungy" and are at times beset by technical issues. 'Consumers should not go to an 'Apple Cinemas' theater thinking it is connected to the famous Apple brand, with all its goodwill and brand equity,' Miranda Means, an attorney representing Apple, stated in the lawsuit. Apple's goals with its lawsuit are to force the theater chain to stop using the word "Apple" in its name. It is also seeking damages, though the amount was unspecified.

Shark offers a five-year guarantee on the appliance so if anything malfunctions, they will substitute it at no cost - provided they register it with Shark, reports the Mirror. And for those seeking alternatives, Amazon's Avalsor Cordless Vacuum Cleaner has been slashed from £189.99 to £95.45, though it may not deliver the same suction strength as the Shark Stratos. Meanwhile, the Hoover HF4 Hydro Pet Cordless Vacuum Cleaner With Anti Hair Wrap for £219 offers both hoovering and mopping functions in one gadget, courtesy of its interchangeable brush and mop attachments. The Shark vacuum cleaner boasts a 4.6-star rating out of five on Amazon. One satisfied customer shared: "Very happy with the product. I had never used a fancy vacuum cleaner like this one, having only used classical ones in the past (e.g., Henry or similar). "I had to find a vacuum cleaner that would fit behind the door in my room due to space constraints. Being detachable, I'm storing the base part separately and the upright part behind the door, so the door can open properly. "This way, I have it easily accessible as well. Just grab the two pieces, put them together in one click, and vacuum. In a maximum of 5 minutes, I'm done cleaning the carpet in my room. The Shark Upright Corded Vacuum cleaner has 40 per cent knocked off on Amazon for a limited period (Image: SHARK . GETTY) "It has strong suction, and the rotating brush is brilliant. It's light enough for me to manoeuvre easily. It is also very versatile and can be used in many setups, reaching into my drawers and not easily accessible corners and spots. It is just perfect. I never knew how practical these vacuum cleaners are. "I don't have pets, but the pet attachment is very useful, having a smaller rotating brush to fit tight spaces or stairs. Although the vacuum cleaner itself is not too noisy, the pet attachment is, due to the whistle effect, but it is not a major issue. All the same other attachments are good and practical." Some customers have expressed concerns about the size of the dust bag. One customer shared: "I really like the shark, it has no problem picking up the dog hair, and there's lots as I have three large dogs. It's versatile, and I love how you can take the container off the bottom bit to do the stairs easily. Article continues below "The little pet hair tool makes doing the stairs a doddle as it easily picks up dog hair. Neither rotation tool seems to get clogged up with dog hair either. But I have a couple of gripes, the container which holds the dust/dog hair is not big enough, so I'm emptying it very frequently."

US proposes new drone rules that could lead to Starbucks, Amazon deliveries
Aug 5 (Reuters) - The U.S. Transportation Department is proposing new rules to speed deployment of drones beyond the visual line of sight of operators, a key change needed to advance commercial uses like package deliveries. "We are going to unleash American drone dominance," Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said at a press conference on Tuesday. Under current rules, operators need to get individual waivers or exemptions to use drones without visual line of sight. The department said eliminating those requirements "will significantly expand the use-case for drone technologies in areas like: manufacturing, farming, energy production, filmmaking, and the movement of products including lifesaving medications." The proposal includes new requirements for manufacturers, operators, and drone traffic-management services to keep drones safely separated from other drones and airplanes. "It's going to change the way that people and products move throughout our airspace... so you may change the way you get your Amazon package, you may get a Starbucks cup of coffee from a drone," Duffy said. "Industry needs this rule to make sure they can use this technology that's going to allow them to do business more efficiently and effectively." Amazon (AMZN.O), opens new tab resumed testing drone deliveries earlier this year at two locations in Texas and Arizona. Amazon has a goal of delivering 500 million packages annually by drone by the end of 2030. Under the proposal, operations would occur at or below 400 feet above ground from pre-designated locations approved by the Federal Aviation Administration. Operators would identify boundaries and approximate daily flights and takeoff, landing and loading areas and ensure procedures if communications with drones are lost. Drones would yield to all manned aircraft broadcasting their position and not interfere with operations at airports. The Transportation Security Administration would require flight coordinators and others to obtain security threat assessments and a fingerprint-based criminal history records check. Lawmakers and many state officials have raised concerns about drones being used to target high-profile U.S. events like the FIFA World Cup. Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International CEO Michael Robbins praised the risk-based proposal as "a critical step toward enabling drone operations that will enhance safety, transform commercial services, and strengthen public safety with drones as a force multiplier."
