QR code based payment system in gram panchayats of trans-Yamuna region

Time of India4 days ago
Prayagraj: In a step toward transparency and digital governance, the Prayagraj district administration has decided to implement a QR code-based payment system in 1,453 gram panchayats of the Yamunapar region.
The system aims to curb irregularities and ensure that only authorised individuals, including the gram pradhans (village heads) and secretaries, can access and process payments.
The remaining gram panchayats are expected to be brought under the same system within the next week, with preparations already underway.
For years, there were consistent complaints regarding irregularities in payment processes within gram panchayats.
Reports reached the administration that unauthorised persons were using the official dongles meant for gram pradhans to execute financial transactions, raising serious concerns about misuse of power and funds.
To address this issue and make the system more secure and transparent, the govt mandated the use of both face scanning and QR code verification for all payment-related activities.
As part of this initiative, photographs of pradhans and secretaries from 1,540 gram panchayats were uploaded onto the e-Gram Swaraj portal.

QR code generation for 1,453 of these panchayats is now complete.
According to District Panchayati Raj Officer (DPRO) Ravi Shankar Dwivedi, payments in these 1,453 gram panchayats are now being processed only after successful face scan and QR code authentication. He confirmed that QR codes for the remaining panchayats will be generated within a week, after which the new verification method will be uniformly applied across the region.

Live Events Attacking the opposition, he said the public was rejecting parties indulging in negativity and failing to focus on national development . "It is a failed opposition. They seem more interested in having a negative mindset than thinking about the country's progress. People do not accept that," Goyal said while responding to a question on the opposition's role. Auto OEMs to witness pressure in Q1 FY26E amid input cost surge and operational headwinds: Report

India's auto original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are likely to witness margin pressures in Q1FY26E, impacted by higher raw material (RM) costs and operating deleverage, according to a report by HDFC Securities. The report added that elevated prices of key inputs, particularly steel and platinum group metals, are expected to weigh on gross margins, while lower seasonal volumes may further strain EBITDA margins. For two-wheeler (2W) OEMs, an adverse domestic product mix, weaker export contribution, and lower electric vehicle (EV) mix have added to the challenges. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Consórcio Mycon [Confira] Consórcio Mycon Saiba Mais Undo The report added that minor pricing revisions are expected across two-vehicles (2W) and commercial vehicle (CV) players, triggered by the implementation of new regulations--OBD 2 norms from April 1, 2025 for 2Ws and AC cabin norms from June 8, 2025 for CVs. The report added that auto ancillary companies are also under pressure, with subdued global demand and tariff uncertainty clouding long-term planning. Live Events Tyre makers may get some relief from lower raw material prices, while some players could benefit from a drop in aluminium costs, the report added. However, export-focused firms face risks from rising ocean freight costs and potential disruptions. Delays in the return of migrant labourers could further impact operations, the report stated. Adding to the sector's concerns is an imminent shortage of rare-earth magnets, essential for both EV and ICE vehicle components. With most global processing concentrated in China due to its radioactive and high-cost nature, alternatives like domestic production or sourcing from Japan remain long-term prospects. In the near term, importing fully assembled components from China may be the only viable solution, though this would raise costs, reduce localisation, and potentially affect PLI eligibility, as per the report.
