25 kg ganja seized, one arrested
Railway Protection Force
(RPF) personnel seized 25 kg ganja valued at Rs 5 lakh at Anugrah Narayan Road station, falling under DDU division of the East Central Railway (ECR) on Saturday. A person, identified as Sanjay Prasad (58), from Rohtas was arrested in connection with the seizure.
According to ECR's chief public relations officer (CPRO) Saraswati Chandra, on a routine patrol duty, the RPF personnel grew suspicious of Sanjay's movement on platform number 2 at Anugrah Narayan Road station. Upon searching his belongings, the RPF personnel found ganja packed in 24 separate packets concealed within his luggage.
Initial investigations revealed that Sanjay was acting as a carrier of the contraband. After interrogation and recording his statement before Dehri on Sone RPF inspector Ram Vilas Ram, he was handed over to the GRP Dehri on Sone for further legal action against him under various sections of the narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances (NDPS) Act, the CPRO said.
DDU RPF commandant, Jethin B Raj, said the crackdown on drug trafficking would continue.

Gujarat HC grants relief to news anchor accused in defamation, atrocities case after complaint by senior Congress leader
The Gujarat High Court on Monday granted relief to an Ahmedabad-based news anchor in a case of defamation and atrocity, filed by Congress leader Dr Tushar Chaudhary, based on the assurance of the Additional Public Prosecutor that the journalist will be served a notice of 15 days in case the investigating officer deems it appropriate to arrest her. Justice Nirzar Desai was hearing the petition by Gopi Maniar-Ghanghar, anchor of Ahmedabad-based Nirbhay News Channel, for quashing and setting aside the FIR lodged at Tapi District, based on Chaudhary's complaint under Section 356 (Defamation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and various sections of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989. Chaudhary is the newly appointed Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader in Gujarat Assembly. The court order stated, 'Public Prosecutor Hardik Dave has made a statement before this Court upon instructions received by the Nikita Shiroya (SC/ST Cell Tapi Vyara) that… the investigation is at very initial stage and therefore, it would serve the end of justice if this Court records the statement of learned Public Prosecutor that in case, during the course of investigation, if the investigating officer deems it appropriate to arrest the present applicant, she will be given a clear notice of fifteen days and upon receipt of the notice…' The court further said, 'The applicant would be at liberty to avail appropriate remedy so as to take remedial measure to seek relief against her proposed arrest. Such a period would start from the date of receipt of the notice by the present applicant.' Chaudhary's complaint is also against Jagdish Mehta, group editor of Rajkot-based Headlines News channel. Chaudhary has alleged that the journalists had defamed him and his deceased father, former Gujarat Chief Minister Amarsinh Chaudhary. In the FIR, the Congress MLA from Khedbrahma has alleged that in a show aired on July 22 on Nirbhay News, Ghanghar made an objectionable statement against him. He said Mehta consented to the statements, which were 'defamatory for him and the entire tribal community'. Ghanghar's advocate Utkarsh Dave said, '…Ghanghar… was the interviewer, who does not have control over what the other person is going to say… We will proceed with legal remedy in case the notice for arrest is issued.'

NSUI workers protest outside private university in Ahmedabad, allege harassment of student over fees
THE National Students' Union of India (NSUI) on Monday protested outside TransStadia University, a private university in Ahmedabad's Maninagar area, alleging harassment of a student by the university authorities over pending fee and late fee penalty. Sanjay Solanki, secretary of NSUI, alleged that a student, despite having the 'freeship card', was being asked to pay the fee. Solanki demanded that a police complaint be registered in the matter. 'Despite bearing the freeship card, he was repeatedly asked by the university authorities to pay the fee. Under psychological pressure, he tried to commit suicide and was rushed to the hospital. His mother's health also deteriorated on Monday. We demand action against officials who are responsible for his condition. We also want his medical expenses to be reimbursed. The student is not able to speak due to his medical condition,' Solanki said. When stopped by the police and university authorities, the protesting workers forcibly tried to enter the premises. Spokesperson of the TransStadia University, in an official statement, said, 'In this case, the fee follow-up communication was shared via a broadcast group only. Any claim to the contrary is entirely unfounded and appears to be a deliberate attempt to misrepresent and malign the university. We are fully cooperating with authorities and urge everyone to refrain from spreading misinformation. We trust that the due process will prevail. As always, TransStadia University remains committed to transparency, integrity, and the holistic development of our students.' Pertaining to the demand to pay the medical expenses, officials told this paper that the student was assured of proper treatment at the civil hospital, which he declined. Freeship card is the central government's scheme of scholarship to students from reserved categories for higher education in private universities. According to the scheme, students with a family income of Rs 2.5 lakh from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes who take admission in private colleges or universities can avail freeship cards from the social welfare and empowerment department. The freeship card shall make the student eligible to study in the institution without prepayment of the fees, and on the condition that as and when the amount is released to the student's account, the institution would be intimated to collect it from the student.

Hanumangarh cops nab smuggler with MD worth 1.5 crore
1 2 Jaipur: Hanumangarh police Monday arrested an alleged smuggler who was carrying Mephedrone (MD) drugs worth approximately Rs 1.5 crore. Hanumangarh SP Hari Shankar said the operation was conducted following actionable intelligence, with the Sangaria police station team playing a crucial role. "A special campaign is being conducted to curb drug trafficking in the district. As part of this, Sangaria team was patrolling when they received information about a suspicious person near Ratanpura on the Bharatmala road," said Shankar. He added that upon searching the person, they found 307.6 grams of MD drugs in his possession. The arrested man has been identified as Samundra Singh (24), a resident of Tumdia village in Chittorgarh district. Police said several cases under NDPS Act were previously registered against him. In July 2025, Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) raided a clandestine laboratory in Sriganganagar, arresting two persons for manufacturing MD worth Rs 15 crore. A police official said, "We have been coordinating with central agencies and our counterparts in neighbouring cities about drug peddlers, and real-time information is shared almost on a daily basis". The official added that Singh's arrest was crucial for two reasons—firstly, he was peddling a big amount and was making trips to different cities; and secondly, he was suspected to be connected with other drug syndicates. Interrogation is underway to find out the MD's suppliers and the accused will be produced before court for police remand, said an official.
