But despite Sarina Wiegman's side's impressive performance that saw them battle from being 1-0 down in the first half to fighting back through an Alessia Russo equaliser and much-improved penalties, Spain's media think England "robbed" La Roja in Basel.
And there are reports of Spain players allegedly labeling England as "time wasters".
Spanish outlet Diario AS fired a shot atwinning penalty taker Chloe Kelly and her "cocky" gesture after her spot kick, which saw her coolly point a finger at the crowd.
The Spanish outlet wrote: "This is unnecessary, my friend: Kelly's cocky gesture to [goalkeeper] Cata Coll after scoring the decisive penalty.

"The England specialist changed her run during her penalty celebration to get past the goalkeeper she had just beaten."
In their match report, the outlet said: "The dream ends in a nightmare.
"Spain lost the European Championship on penalties. England tied a match that Spain largely dominated.

"History is made by victories, and also by defeats. Spain fell in the Euro Cup final but left its name sealed in gold.
"England robbed them of their dream; the world champions couldn't close the circle they began to write two years ago in Sydney.

"They couldn't have been crueler in the penalty shootout, tossing a few dice in the air."
2023 World Cup winners Spain's players labelled England as "lucky" in their post-match interviews.
Captain Irene Paredes told Spanish TV RTVE: "I don't really know what to say. It's a very hard moment.
"We tried everything, all the different ways, and then the penalties didn't go our way. I thought we deserved it more but in the end it is not about who deserves it.
"It is about having that bit of luck and England had that throughout the whole tournament. We thought we could overcome that but we weren't able to.
"I think we had more control of the game than they did, we created more clear chances, we had more possession… But yeah, nothing else."
Meanwhile, two-time reigning Ballon d'Or winner Aitana Bonmati thought her side were "far superior".
Bonmati, who missed her penalty in the shoot out, told Spainsh outlet El Pais: "I think we've all given up. It's been a long time here, and it's been very cruel.
"In terms of play, we were far superior to our opponents, but in football, that's not enough."
She added: "To be a winning team in a tournament like this, you have to have some luck, and they had plenty of luck.
"We know how to do it better when it comes to penalties."
El Pais claim that Paredes later labelled England as "time-wasters" and "players on the ground" in comments to reporters in the mixed zone of the St Jakob-Park in Basel.
England were leading in just four minutes of all of their knockout games but defied all odds to go back-to-back.
Mariona Caldentey's first half header was cancelled out by Alessia Russo in the 57th minute, with the score locked all the way to the end of extra time.
England's Hannah Hampton - who has done a remarkable job of stepping into ex-Lionesses goalkeeper Mary Earp's shoes following her retirement - saved two of Spain's penalties, including Bonmati's.
Euro 2022 winning goalscorer Kelly hammered her spot kick into the top left hand corner to avenge her side's World Cup 2023 defeat to Spain and seal victory for her country.

Ben Doak stars for Liverpool in pre-season with youngster earning rave reviews before key Scotland fixtures

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) BEN DOAK burst onto the Scottish national scene last year as Steve Clarke brought the youngster into the fold. But the Liverpool star who was on loan at Middlesbrough last campaign had his season cut short by injury. But Doak has been involved heavily in Arne Slot's pre season even starting Monday night's clash with Athletic Bilbao. The winger impressed in his 56 minute showing against the Reds European opposition. He played a crucial part in helping Liverpool go into a two nil lead early on, putting a key cross in to the box which Darwin Nunez eventually finished off. The young Scotsman also thought he ended up on the score sheet as his strike ended up in the back of the net, but it went down as an own-goal. Despite not officially making it on the score-sheet, Liverpool fans raved about the youngster's performance on social media. Liverpool posted an image of the youngster on X, and fans made their feelings known in the replies. "I have a LOT of faith in Ben Doak" one fan replied. Another added: "Our future's extremely bright." "It was a cross good approach play by him, direct, making things happen," said another. COFFEE CLUB Has Ben Doak been mishandled by Scotland manager Steve Clarke? A fourth supporter called him a "special talent". A Celtic fan also replied, pleading to Doak's former club to snap the youngster up on a loan deal. He featured just twice for the Hoops before his move to Liverpool, one of those appearances coming in an Old Firm. But he has heavily impressed for Scotland, and has picked up six caps for his country. In a squad that lacks wide players, Ben Doak is exactly the type of player that Steve Clarke needs. And the Tartan Army will be relieved to see the electric winger back firing for the Reds. Scotland have key World Cup qualifiers coming up this year, starting with games against Denmark and Belarus in September. With his pre-injury form for Scotland, many fans will be calling for the youngster to be thrown straight back into Steve Clarke's starting 11. Liverpool legend pays touching Diogo Jota tribute on first match at Anfield since tragedy

Liverpool took on Spanish side Athletic Bilbao at Anfield on Monday with fans and players alike paying an emotional tribute to Diogo Jota following his tragic death last month Liverpool legend Phil Thompson led an emotional tribute to Diogo Jota as the Reds returned to Anfield for the first time since his death. The Portuguese forward died in a tragic car accident in Spain alongside his brother last month. ‌ Tributes flooded in from across the footballing world, with fans leaving their flowers and memories outside of Anfield. Arne Slot 's side played their first game at Anfield since Jota's passing on Monday evening. ‌ They took on Spanish side Athletic Bilbao in a double-header - a game that represented Liverpool 's final pre-season game ahead of the Community Shield clash against Crystal Palace at Wembley. ‌ The game also represented an opportunity for Anfield to pay tribute to Jota and his brother Andre Silva. Liverpool icon Thompson took to the pitch alongside Bilbao president Jon Uriarte to lay a wreath. The pair laid the wreaths in front of the goal at the Kop end of Anfield, with Kenny Dalglish doing similar in Hong Kong, while Ian Rush also did the same in Yokohama. During Thompson's latest tribute, fans chanted and sang Jota's song. The game was also stopped in the 20th minute for a round of applause, while Jota's song was a regular soundtrack across the stadium. The recent tributes come after Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk had written a touching message to Jota in Liverpool's programme ahead of taking on Bilbao. "It has, of course, been a very challenging time," the defender wrote. "First and foremost for Diogo and Andre's family, for Rute and the kids. They are the people who must always come first in all of this. We must never forget that, and we cannot imagine their pain in this moment. "It is still a bit surreal, to be honest, but we are coping in the best way possible as a team, and we are all trying to do the best job we can in order to get through this really difficult time. ‌ "With everything that happened, it has been strange having to now try to carry on with work, with football. We will never forget Diogo, of course, but we just have to try to honour his memory. That's what we try to do each and every day. "I always come back to the fact that we have to look after Diogo's family, his parents, and that's the main thing. You think about so many different things, and it's difficult to process. You can't imagine the pain, the feeling that they have. That's why we try to be there as much as we can, and for each other as well. "That's also why it is very important that we honour and carry on his legacy, not only for now and the next couple of months, but for as long as we can, because that is what he deserves." The reason Mikey Moore won't feature for Rangers against Viktoria Plzen but club trying for Oliver Antman inclusion

Gers face the Czechs in the first leg of their third round qualifier on Tuesday night Rangers will be without Mikey Moore for their crunch Champions League qualifier with Viktoria Plzen - but latest recruit Oliver Antman could line-up for the first leg showdown at Ibrox. ‌ Russell Martin 's men take on the Czech side in the third round of qualifying tomorrow night - with the winner going onto face the victor of the tie between Club Brugge and and FC Salzburg in the play-off round. ‌ Should Rangers fall, Martin's side are still guaranteed European football, with the loser of the tie dropping into the revamped group stage of the Europa League. ‌ The former Southampton boss has sealed a deal worth around £4million to bring in Finland international Antman from Go Ahead Eagles, taking his summer signing tally to nine. And while Gers are hopeful to get him registered in time ahead of UEFA's 11pm deadline tonight, Moore won't make the cut. The 17-year-old arrived on a season-long loan from Tottenham on Friday but Record Sport understands his clearance from UEFA to get the green light has suffered a delay due to his U18 status. ‌ Moore was at Fir Park on Saturday as Gers played out a 1-1 draw with Motherwell. The rest of the Light Blues new recruits are all expected to make the squad, with Thelo Aasgaard still unable to make his competitive debut with an injury picked up in pre-season. ‌ Another man who won't be in action in the first leg clash with Plzen is Hamza Igamane who is yet to get up to speed under his new boss. Djeidi Gassama netted in both legs of the 3-1 aggregate victory against Panathinaikos and will hope to continue his fine start to life at Ibrox following his £2.2million switch from Sheffield Wednesday. Gers have been left reeling from Saturday's draw at Fir Park in their Premiership opener, with Martin letting his rip at his new-look squad after watching them fail to collect three points on matchday one for the third season running. ‌ You can get all the news you need on our dedicated Rangers page and sign up to our newsletters to make sure you never miss a beat throughout the season.
