
Looming over two cases threatening Musk's car company is a single question: Can he be trusted?
That Tesla has allowed the Miami case to proceed to trial is surprising. It has settled at least four deadly accidents involving Autopilot, including payments just last week to a Florida family of a Tesla driver. That said, Tesla was victorious in two other jury cases, both in California, that also sought to lay blame on its technology for crashes.
Lawyers for the plaintiffs in the Miami case argue that Tesla's driver-assistance feature, called Autopilot, should have warned the driver and braked when his Model S sedan blew through flashing lights, a stop sign and a T-intersection at 62 miles-an-hour in an April 2019 crash. Tesla said that drivers are warned not to rely on Autopilot, or its more advanced Full Self-Driving system. It says the fault entirely lies with the "distracted driver" just like so many other 'accidents since cellphones were invented.'
Driver McGee settled a separate suit brought by the family of Benavides and her severely injured boyfriend, Dillon Angulo.
McGee was clearly shaken when shown a dashcam video Monday of his car jumping a Key West, Florida, road and hitting a parked Chevrolet Tahoe which then slammed into Benavides and sent her 75 feet through the air to her death. Asked if he had seen those images before, McGee pinched his lips, shook his head, then squeaked out a response, 'No.'
Tesla's attorney sought to show that McGee was fully to blame, asking if he had ever contacted Tesla for additional instructions about how Autopilot or any other safety features worked. McGee said he had not, though he was heavy user of the features. He said he had driven the same road home from work 30 or 40 times. Under questioning, he also acknowledged he alone was responsible for watching the road and hitting the brakes.
Summarizing the testimony, Tesla said in a statement after the court adjourned that McGee had "stated the simple truth that we all know: If he had just paid attention to the road instead of searching for his dropped cell phone and pressing the accelerator —which he was doing for over a minute before the crash — this tragic accident would never have happened.'

Parbhani school assault: Absconding director couple arrested from Pune hotel
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Days after the director couple of a Purna-based residential school were accused in the assault and murder of a farmer in Parbhani, over a school fee and transfer certificate (TC) dispute, they were finally arrested from a hotel in Pune on Tuesday morning. The arrested couple have been identified as 48-year-old Prabhakar Chavan, and his wife Ratnamala (42), both residents of Tuljapurwadi in Vasmat of Hingoli district. The 42-year-old victim, Jagannath Hendge, was allegedly murdered on July-10. Parbhani superintendent of police Ravindrasingh Pardeshi said: "Since being on the run, the accused couple, in an attempt to evade arrest, kept changing their locations. We have found that the accused couple were staying at a Pune-based hotel for the past five to six days." Purna SDPO Samadhan Pawar, who is supervising the investigation, said the accused couple were brought to Parbhani and produced before the local court, which awarded them three-day police custody. The case pertains to the death of a 42-year-old farmer from Ukhald village, who visited a private residential school at Ziro Fata in Parbhani on Thursday to collect his daughter's TC and seek a refund of the fees paid. His daughter, a Std III student, had earlier withdrawn from the hostel due to adjustment issues. During the visit, an argument reportedly broke out between the man and the school management, following which the director and his wife allegedly assaulted him. The farmer sustained serious injuries in the incident and later died. One of the accused is a former education committee chairperson of the Hingoli zilla parishad.

HC stays action taken on basis of alleged letter from ‘RSS HQ'
Lucknow: The Lucknow bench of Allahabad high court recently stayed the suspension of licence of a fair price shop, questioning the authenticity of a letter allegedly written by the "RSS headquarters", on the basis of which the UP food and civil supplies department allegedly passed the order. Justice Pankaj Bhatia stayed the department's order on a writ petition filed by a Gonda resident, Manoj Kumar, and directed state govt to file its reply in the matter, fixing the next hearing after six weeks. The bench also directed the petitioner to implead one Dinesh Shukla, on whose complaint the department had initiated the proceedings. The sub divisional magistrate concerned suspended the licence of the petitioner's PDS outlet on June 30 on charges of distribution of poor quality food grains. He challenged the suspension order before the high court, alleging that the commissioner, food and civil supplies, had initiated the proceedings against him on the basis of an e-mail received purportedly from Nagpur-based RSS headquarters on Sept 5, 2024. The petitioner contended that state functionaries could not take any action against him on an RSS functionary's recommendation. The department's action of suspending his licence was mala fide and liable to be set aside, he argued. On perusal of the email and other documents, the bench expressed serious concern and questioned the govt counsel on how a letter written on a plain paper on behalf of a top RSS functionary could be taken to be authentic.

German car manufacturers have been struggling with this issue in recent times as the Asian nation contests for market share. 'The required cuts are not easy, but they are essential to secure the future of the site,' he said, according to the news agency's report. Losing the 'competitive' edge According to the agency report citing the autoparts maker, steering system sales were declining partly due to the sluggish uptake of electric vehicles. Other automotive suppliers like Schaeffler and Continental have made layoffs in the past year, while sports car maker Porsche last Friday warned workers of a 'serious situation' amid collapsing demand in China. In November 2024, Bosch also announced a 5,500-employee layoff across the company, according to the agency report. Bosch is a listed company in the Indian stock market, and the shares closed 1.37% lower at ₹37,750 after Tuesday's stock market session, compared to ₹38,320 at the previous market close.
