Minerva narrowly fell short in final, but won hearts with historic Helsinki Cup campaign
Minerva played the game like a winner throughout the tournament and introduced defense along with attack. They played 10 matches in this tournament and won 9. Scored a total of 42 goals. Conceded only one goal, and that too in the final. This performance of the Indian team was historic among the great youth teams of Europe and other countries. Minerva became the first Indian team to reach the final of the Helsinki Cup.
Despite the narrow loss, the performances across the tournament earned admiration from scouts, coaches, and fans across Europe. From clean sheet after clean sheet to the relentless attacking style that produced thumping wins over sides like HJK, RCD Espanyol, GrIFK, LAUTP, and Stjarnan, the boys from India proved that Indian football isn't just rising -- it has arrived.
Players like Raj, K Chetan, Punshiba, Yohenba, Chetan T, and Azam showed maturity and enthusiasm much beyond their age. In every match, the team proved that Indian players can stand against the world's big football academies and clubs.
There is definitely sadness due to the defeat in the final, but the pride is even more than that. What these players did for the club, family and country became an example. Remaining unbeaten for 9 matches in Finland and conceding just one goal, that too in the final, is a great achievement by any standards.
Minerva may not have won the trophy, but it has definitely earned trust. Trust that world-class footballers can emerge from India too. It was not just a tournament; it was a message. And the world heard that message. Now, Minerva will participate in three more big international youth tournaments. This journey will continue; it will not stop. (ANI)

Sourav Ganguly biopic starring Rajkummar Rao to go on floors in January 2026; actor reveals team needed more time to prep
Rajkummar Rao , who is currently basking in the success of his latest gangster drama 'Maalik', has given fans something else to look forward to. The talented actor recently revealed that the much-awaited biopic on cricket legend Sourav Ganguly, in which he plays the lead, will start filming next year. The actor's update comes as 'Maalik' continues to enjoy a positive run at the box office. With audiences appreciating his intense performance, Rao has now turned his attention towards prepping for his next big challenge, stepping into the shoes of one of Indian cricket 's most iconic captains. Filming pushed to next year Speaking to Mid-day, Rajkummar shared that the team has decided to delay the shoot to ensure every aspect of the film does justice to Ganguly's remarkable journey. The film, which is still untitled, was earlier expected to go on floors this year. However, considering the scale of preparation required, the makers have decided to commence filming in 2026. 'Everybody is taking a lot of care in recreating Dada's life for a theatrical experience. We have pushed the shooting to next year as we needed some time for the prep. It's a big responsibility to play one of our most iconic heroes in cricket," Rajkummar said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is it legal? Techno Mag Learn More Undo According to Mid-day, the filmmakers want to ensure the script, currently in the final stages of development, captures every detail of the cricketer's storied career. They believe it deserves meticulous treatment, both for the subject's stature and for the expectations of millions of fans. Learning to bat left-handed For Rajkummar, preparing to portray Sourav Ganguly is no small feat. While he is comfortable playing cricket, embodying a natural left-handed batter like Ganguly poses a fresh challenge. 'While I know how to play cricket, being a left-handed batter is a different ball game altogether. The muscle memory is all about being a right-handed batter. So, I need some time to practise," the actor explained. Interestingly, Rajkummar also revealed he has not yet met Ganguly. 'I have deliberately not met Dada yet. I want to meet him when we fully get into prep mode," he added. Fans of both cinema and cricket will no doubt be eager to see how Rao transforms himself into 'Dada' on the big screen. 'It's a huge responsibility' Earlier, in a chat with NDTV, Rajkummar confirmed he would indeed be playing Sourav Ganguly in the film. Opening up about his excitement and nerves, he said, 'Now that Dada has already said it, let me also make it official – yes, I am playing him in his biopic. I am nervous… It's a huge responsibility, but it's going to be a lot of fun."

'Nobody Is Gonna Cry...': Ben Stokes After Exhilarating Lord's Test Comes To An End
England Test captain Ben Stokes is "all for" the aggression and tempers that flared during the third Test against India at the 'Home of Cricket', Lord's. According to Stokes, despite all the emotions that boiled over in the last three days, nobody overstepped the line or cried "themselves to sleep over what was said or done out" on the field. Temperament frayed, emotions ran thin as the element of spice entered the picture. In the last three days, India and England players engaged in sledging, which even led to Mohammed Siraj receiving a demerit point and losing 15 per cent of his match fee. After a thrilling contest concluded with England's 22-run victory, Stokes was quizzed about the heated on-field atmosphere. The English skipper didn't mince his words and claimed that it was understandable for emotions and tension to soar high when two behemoths are scuffling for victory. "No, I think in big series like this there's always going to be a time and a moment where the two teams are going to clash. I'm all for it. I don't think it really stepped over the line. I think at the end of it, if you think about it, there's 22 people out there playing for their country. It's the highest honour that you can do in our given sport. So you can understand that sometimes the emotions and the tension can get quite high," Stokes told reporters in the post-match press conference. It all started with India Test captain Shubman Gill screaming at Zak Crawley in the final moments of the third day. He felt the lanky English opener was trying to run down the clock to deny India the opportunity of bowling a second over. Fingers were pointed, words were exchanged, and the trend continued for the next two days. On Sunday, Siraj celebrated close to Ben Duckett in his follow-through after scything his wicket and made contact as the English opener began his walk back to the Lord's long room. "But I don't think there's anyone in the Indian dressing room or anyone in the English dressing room that's going to bed, going to cry themselves to sleep over what was said or done out there. Sometimes it gets a little bit over-egged from an outsider's point of view. I don't think it overstepped the line from the Indian team or from our team," he added. Even on the last day, Carse and Jadeja engaged in a heated altercation, which was soon subdued. In the 35th over, the two players collided while Jadeja sprinted for the first run. After the first contact, Carse had his arm around Jadeja's shoulder, which didn't sit well with the seasoned Indian all-rounder. Jadeja and Carse began a war of words, which led to Stokes intervening in the matter and cooling things off. Stokes didn't believe that there was a buildup to the heated moment and said, "There was always going to be a moment in a series like this when it was going to implode. It wasn't really boiling up to it, it just sort of happened. But look, that's the spectacle of England v India, isn't it."

Ravindra Jadeja Joins MS Dhoni, Rishabh Pant In Elite List After Valiant Knock vs England
All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja's lone-warrior effort at Lord's did go in vain, but nonetheless, he registered his name in the record books as he completed 7,000 international runs and joined players like Rishabh Pant, Sourav Ganguly, MS Dhoni and Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi in record books. Jadeja continued to prove his worth as a specialist batter, with another set of twin half-centuries at the 'Home of Cricket'. But Jadeja never really got to pull off his trademark sword celebration as Team India fell 22 runs short of what would have been one of India's best wins away from home. The veteran all-rounder completed his 7,000 international runs. In 361 international appearances, Jadeja has scored 7,018 runs at an average of 33.41, with four centuries and 39 fifties in 302 innings and a best score of 175*. In 83 Tests, he has scored 3,697 runs at an average of 36.97, with four centuries and 26 fifties, with his best score being 175*. This is his most successful format with the bat. In three matches during this series, he has made 327 runs in six innings at an average of 109.00, with four fifties. His best score is 89. He is the fifth-highest run-getter in the series so far. He has joined the elite company of Pant (five fifty-plus scores between 2021-25) and Ganguly (four fifty-plus scores in 2002) as the third player with four or more successive fifty-plus scores in England. Besides the legendary Vinoo Mankad (72 and 184 back in 1952), he is the only Indian with fifty-plus scores in both innings at Lord's. He has also joined MAK Pataudi (64 and 148 against England, Leeds in 1967 and 75 and 85 against Australia at Melbourne 1967), MS Dhoni (52 and 56* against New Zealand at Wellington in 2009 and 77 and 74* against England at Birmingham, 2011) to be amongst Indians to have multiple instances of twin fifty-plus scores in South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia (SENA) Tests while batting at number six or lower. Jadeja also overtook legendary VVS Laxman (28 fifty-plus scores), registering his 29th fifty-plus score batting at number six or below for India, third-highest by an Indian with Kapil Dev (35) and MS Dhoni (38) above him. England won the toss and opted to bat first. England was reduced to 44/2, but a 109-run stand between Ollie Pope (44 in 104 balls, with four boundaries) and Joe Root (104 in 199 balls, with 10 fours) and a counter-attacking 84 run stand for the eighth wicket stand between Brydon Carse (56 in 83 balls, with six fours and a six) and Jamie Smith (51 in 56 balls, with six fours) took England to 387. Jasprit Bumrah (5/74) was the highlight for India with the ball. In the second innings, India lost Yashasvi Jaiswal early, but a 61-run stand between Karun Nair (26 in 46 balls, with five fours) and KL Rahul and a 141-run stand between KL (100 in 177 balls, with 13 fours) and Rishabh Pant (74 in 112 balls, with eight fours and two sixes) took India close to England's score. A brilliant half-century from Ravindra Jadeja (72 in 131 balls, with eight fours and a six) and lower-order contributions from Nitish Kumar Reddy (30) and Washington Sundar (23) took India to 387, with nothing separating the sides. Chris Woakes (3/84) was the top bowler for England in this innings. In England's second innings, India continuously kept England under pressure, except for a 67-run fifth wicket stand between Root (40 in 96 balls, with a four) and Stokes (33 in 96 balls, with three fours). Sundar (4/22) delivered a game-changer spell, running through the middle-order and bundling out England for 192. India was set 193 to win. During the run-chase, Team India was reduced to 82/7. However, Jadeja (61* in 181 balls, with four boundaries and a six) was not in a mood to give up. He put up resilient partnerships with the lower-order batters that put England under tension, but Mohammed Siraj's unlucky dismissal, where the ball spun back to the stumps following its landing on the pitch hurt a million of hearts as India was bundled out for 170. India trails 1-2 in the series. Stokes won the 'Player of the Match' for his handy knocks of 44 and 33 and total of five wickets in the match, including a three-wicket haul taken in the second innings taken in tandem with Jofra Archer, who also got three wickets.
