New session, old baggage: Most pvt schools fail to submit fee hike info
The March 15 deadline has come and gone and currently, only 10,181 private schools out of the total 34,714 schools across the state have complied with the mandatory reporting requirements.
Parent organizations are calling for action against the schools for non-compliance. The schools have yet to submit their financial records and proposed fee adjustments for the academic year.
The state education department earlier issued clear directives to all private schools to provide comprehensive documentation, including their annual accounts, proposed fee structures, and justification for any increases.
This requirement stems from regulations aimed at ensuring transparency and preventing arbitrary fee hikes that burden parents and students.
Officials also noted that whether they were schools are in major cities like Bhopal, Indore, and Jabalpur or in smaller districts, they have both failed to comply with the directives.
'Not Enough Scrutiny & Too Many Unjustified Fee Hikes Burden Students'
Parents' associations have expressed worry about schools potentially implementing unjustified fee increases without ample scrutiny.

"The govt needs to take strict action against schools that fail to submit their details even after the extended deadline. As per the rules, schools should submit their details by Jan 1 every year," said parent association general secretary, Prabodh Pandya.
Parents have warned that schools failing to comply may face protests from them. "Govt should take possible action, including penalties. District-level committees should be formed to review the submitted documents and assess the legitimacy of proposed fee increases," added Pandya.
Schools Give Vague Excuses On Helpline: Parents
The education department established a helpline for parents to report concerns about unreasonable fee hikes, but that has also turned into a mere formality. Several schools have cited increased operational costs, infrastructure improvements, and salary revisions as reasons for seeking fee adjustments. "Schools must demonstrate that additional charges are necessary for maintaining educational standards and implementing quality improvements," said an official without quoting his name.
As per the rules, schools must maintain detailed records of their income and expenditure, which should be available for inspection by authorised officials.
Govt Should Maintain Accountability In Private Education Sector: Assn
The last deadline extension aimed to give schools additional time to prepare accurate documentation while ensuring that the fee regulation process remains transparent and fair. The education department should create a comprehensive database of school fee structures to monitor trends and prevent excessive increases, said the parents' association.

He came just to eat his favourite fruit, but he never returned
Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], June 14 (ANI): The grieving family of Ramesh Chand Patel, a British national who lost his life in the tragic Ahmedabad plane crash, arrived in India on Friday to take his body home and pay their final respects. Patel, a regular visitor to Gujarat and deeply connected to the country of his roots, had come to India for just nine days. His daughter, Priti Pandya, speaking with ANI, recalled the simple, heartfelt reason behind his short visit. 'He came here last Tuesday--that is the 4th of June--just for 9 days. He just wants to come to eat the Jambura fruit. He didn't come back home,' she said, her voice heavy with grief. This was a trip like many before it, yet unlike any other. 'He comes every year to India. He loves India. He has a house in Gujarat. He and my mother open the house and come here for 6 weeks. Have a tiffin service and enjoy there. This time he just came to enjoy the fruit,' she added. When asked about her last conversation with her father, Pandya expressed regret. 'I didn't. This is the first trip where I have spoken to him 3-4 times within a week. But when he video called me on Tuesday, I was working and I thought I would call him back, but I was never able to because I just got busy with work.' 'He wanted to come here. He loved this country. He died here, it was meant to be,' he added. On the reported compensation of 1 crore per deceased passenger being offered by Air India, Pandya said, 'The compensation is not going to bring him back. Money is not going to replace a life. Even yesterday, when we were trying to get our booking to come here, Air India was an option, and I said I am not coming on Air India. We can't lose 5 of us who have travelled to come here. We have left our children. Our children are by themselves at home. Kajal Patel, Ramesh Patel's daughter-in-law, also shared her last moments of contact with him 'Thursday morning, he rang me and then he said everything is okay. I also messaged him on both his phones, saying, 'I hope everything is okay. All your belongings are fine and safe journey.' He said, I won't ring you again. Everything is fine. Just relax. Don't worry about it. He still rang me again and said I am on the plane safely. It's on time. I said Okay, Dad, safe journey. See you in the evening.' Holding back tears, she added how she had been preparing for his arrival, calling in his favourite food: 'The Day before, because I know he was coming, I called his favourite food. He was looking forward to eating fish & chips as well.' She also recalled trying to dissuade him from taking this short trip. 'He was saying to us that I am going. I said, Dad, it's too hot to go. Don't go. Mum didn't want him to go, and then he asked Mum, Could I go? I want to go. I told him not to go, it's hot. He said, No, I want to go and then I said Okay, go, fulfil your wish for what you want to eat. I don't know, he didn't come back.' On the compensation issue, her heartbreak was clear: 'I give you the money, give my dad. That's what I am going to say. But no one is going to give Dad.' 'Our children are on their own. They said Don't worry, go. Just bring Dada back.' (ANI)

800-year-old Shiva temple of later Pandya period unearthed near Melur
An 800-year-old Shiva temple of the later Pandya period has been unearthed at Udampatti, a village in Melur taluk. Professor P. Devi Arivu Selvam, temple architect and sculpture researcher, says that though only the foundation of the temple remains, the inscriptions on the culvert are significant as they reveal how the temple had been financially independent. While documents published by the Tamil Nadu State Department of Archaeology in 1974-75 had described the existence of ancient temples in this belt, most of them are in ruins and some have almost disappeared. So, it came as a surprise to historians when recently boys playing in an open ground at Udampatti in the Malampatti panchayat stumbled upon a broken stone structure covered in mud. The villagers alerted the Village Adminsitrative Officer (VAO) and Ms. Devi. With the VAO's permission, the area was cleared. What emerged was the foundation of a temple with the stone base on the northern and southern sides intact. With the help of the engravings on the foundation stone and Silpa Sastram as reference, the temple was found to have been dedicated to Lord Shiva. C. Santhalingam, archaeologist and secretary of the Pandya Nadu Centre for Historical Research, who deciphered the two Tamil inscriptions found on the stone base, says they can be dated to 1217-1218 CE, during the reign of Maravarman Sundara Pandya. The inscriptions say the name of the village was Attur and the temple was called Thennavanisvaram. 'It is pertinent to note that Thennavan is actually a title used by the Pandyas,' says Ms. Devi. The inscriptions are a sale deed of a waterbody by one Alagaperumal, chieftain of Kalavalinadu, to one Nambi Perambala Kuthan alias Kangeyan. The waterbody, called Nagankudi, along with wet and dry land, was sold for 64 kasu (coins). The four boundaries of the land and the waterbody that had been sold have been defined in the inscriptions. It has also been mentioned that the tax due to the land should be given to the God of Thennavaniswaram of Attur for its day-to-day expenses. For historians, these inscriptions reveal the ancient name of Udampatti, which was then called Attur, and also the socio-economic dynamics that were at play during the later Pandya period.

Hardik Pandya in tears after brother Krunal fulfils promise of adding 9th IPL trophy in 11 years to the Pandya household
Amid the manic celebrations that broke out in the RCB camp, mostly revolving around an emotional Virat Kohli, Krunal Pandya somehow got left out. The Player of the match, the game-changer, Krunal was bought by RCB for ₹5.75 crore. A former Mumbai Indians all-rounder, who knows what it's like to win the IPL – not once but on multiple occasions – Krunal brought all his experience into play and bowled the four overs that turned the match on its head. Krunal gave away just 17 runs and picked up two wickets – of the set duo of Prabhsimran Singh and Josh Inglis. Krunal's two-wicket burst opened the gates for RCB to knock it down and get over the line by six runs. Krunal's win isn't just his or RCB's. It's a win for the entire Pandya family, where there's no shortage of IPL-winning medals. Krunal's win added a ninth IPL medal (not trophy) to the Pandya household. Hardik Pandya has won the IPL four times with Mumbai Indians (2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020) and once with Gujarat Titans (2022), taking the tally to five, whereas Krunal has won it thrice with MI (2017, 2019 and 2020), and now with RCB, extending it to nine. "When I joined RCB, I told them that I love winning trophies. After three and a half months, glad that I was able to fulfil what I said on Day 1. I literally manifested it. It has been pretty good. 10 years, 4 IPL trophies. I told Hardik on the phone that in the Pandya household, there will be nine trophies in 11 years," Krunal told Ravi Shastri while collecting the Player-of-the-Match award. Hardik Pandya and his Mumbai Indians unit endured a heartbreak, losing the Qualifier 2 to the Punjab Kings, which sent them packing. However, the captain did not get much time to dwell over the result, as Hardik was consumed by what his brother had achieved for himself, RCB and the family. On Instagram, Hardik wrote: "In tears right now. Proud of you bhai". Ahmedabad had produced seven 200-plus totals this year, most of which were chased down. So when RCB posted 190/9, it appeared a below-par score. Even Matthew Hayden acknowledged it on air. And to be honest, for the most time, it appeared so too. PBKS were given a quick start by Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh, putting on 43 inside the Powerplay. However, once the wickets started to fall, there was no coming back. Krunal used the sluggishness of the surface to great effect, mixing up taking the pace off the ball and firing some in. "When we batted, we realised the slower you bowl the better it is. In this format, you need guts to do it. I just backed myself, thought I'll vary my pace and keep it on the slower side more often. My biggest strength has been to learn what the situation requires. I knew I had to be brave to get wickets tonight. Thought I'd do that by bowling slow. If you'd have bowled quick, it'd have been a good wicket. But if you mixed it up it was tougher. Pitch actually got easier in the second innings," he added.
