HSBC Amanah launches Shariah-compliant digital trade platform

KUALA LUMPUR: HSBC Amanah has introduced HSBC TradePay-i, a Shariah-compliant digital trade finance solution designed to give businesses access to trade facilities and enable seamless payment to suppliers, offering greater flexibility.
In a statement, HSBC Amanah said businesses that depend on short-term financing for working capital payments often face a lengthy and complex process, including document preparation and drawdown applications.
The new digital trade finance solution streamlines this by allowing businesses to upload a payment file and make direct payments to suppliers.
HSBC Amanah chief executive officer Raja Amir Shah said that amid global tariff and trade uncertainties affecting costs and supply chain risks, businesses are increasingly seeking flexible financial solutions to adapt.
"HSBC's TradePay-i offers the liquidity necessary to overcome this challenge while optimising trade flows effectively.
"This tool aligns with the growing demand in Malaysia for ethical, transparent and interest-free financing solutions within a supportive policy environment that encourages the adoption of innovative Islamic finance solutions," he said.
Raja Amir said this underscores the bank's dedication to providing Islamic financing solutions that align with changing trade dynamics and cater to the evolving needs of its clients.
"With digitisation reshaping the trade landscape, HSBC TradePay-i stands out as more than just a product; it's a catalyst for growth, speed and strategic advantage.
"Businesses can harness TradePay-i to trade with agility, finance with certainty and scale with confidence, even in volatile conditions," HSBC Malaysia head of global trade solutions Shreyas Krishna said.

'The Destination' shines a light on Saudi Arabia's new image as it moves towards a global future

KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): Saudi Arabia has launched a new documentary titled "The Destination", showcasing the country's sweeping transformation under its Vision 2030 programme, spanning the political, economic, sports, and cultural sectors. Produced by the Konoz Initiative under the Saudi Arabia Ministry of Media, the documentary goes beyond chronicling achievements. It offers a visual narrative of how Saudi Arabia-long associated with a conservative image-is now emerging as a competitive and modern global destination. In a statement issued on Sunday, Konoz said the film features mega projects, local talent development, and a cultural innovation boom, delivering a clear message: the Arab world is on the move, and Saudi Arabia is leading the way. "The documentary presents stunning visuals from across Saudi Arabia-from deserts to smart cities-telling the story of a nation's rise, now seen as a new benchmark in the modern Islamic world," the statement said. According to Konoz, the documentary will be broadcast on Shahid, STC TV, Saudi national television, and the official platforms of the Saudi Ministry of Media. Prominent figures featured in the film include Chairman of the King Faisal Centre for Research and Islamic Studies, Prince Turki Al-Faisal; Saudi Minister of Sports, Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Saud; Ministerial Advisor Mazen Al-Sudairi; CEO of the Diriyah Gate Development Authority, Jerry Inzerillo; and Head of Cardiac Surgery at King Faisal Specialist Hospital, Dr Firas Khalil. Meanwhile, Konoz said that for Malaysia, "The Destination" raises fundamental questions about how to construct an inclusive national visual narrative-one that reflects the nation's values and transformative changes, while speaking to the world in its own language. "Saudi Arabia's aspirations in developing local content reflect a strategic vision aligned with Malaysia's efforts to build a sustainable and borderless media industry,' the statement added. Konoz also noted that cooperation between Malaysia and Saudi Arabia in this area could be expanded, particularly in co-productions, media training, and expertise exchange in telling stories of social transformation. "Just as Saudi Arabia brings a new cultural message to the world, Malaysia too possesses a diverse cultural narrative capable of engaging in dialogue on equal terms-not in submission, but in exchange,' it said. - Bernama

HSBC's chair hunt going so poorly they're re-approaching people they already rejected

LONDON, July 20 — HSBC has relaunched its global search for a new chair after failing to finalise a shortlist from an initial pool of more than 100 candidates. The bank, which is Europe's largest lender, is trying to replace Sir Mark Tucker, who will step down in October to chair AIA, with people familiar saying the recruitment process had been slow, the Financial Times reported. Executives considered by HSBC include Zurich Insurance Group CEO Mario Greco, Goldman Sachs' Kevin Sneader and Richard Gnodde, and former Lloyd's of London chair Bruce Carnegie-Brown. However, several candidates approached were either unavailable or declined the role, with Zurich confirming Greco 'immediately said no' after being contacted by a headhunter. HSBC and its recruitment firm MWM Consulting have begun re-approaching individuals who had earlier been ruled out before the board could meet them. With no firm candidate in place, Brendan Nelson, the head of the audit committee, will take over as interim chair from Oct 1. The bank may consider appointing someone from its current board if it fails to identify a strong external candidate. A new chair will need to juggle deep financial experience with geopolitical sensitivity, especially given HSBC's presence in both the US and China. Familiarity with Asia, where HSBC earns the majority of its profits, and a willingness to commit to a demanding full-time role with extensive travel are seen as essential qualities. Despite starting the search last year and offering £1.6 million (RM9.1 million) in annual pay and benefits, HSBC's board, led by senior independent director Ann Godbehere, has yet to settle on a successor, with insiders acknowledging some criteria may have to be relaxed.
