ICAI asks over 14 lakh members to stand in solidarity with armed forces and nation
With a vast network comprising over 1.4 million members and students spread across 5 Regional Councils, 177 Branches in India, as well as more than 40,000 members in 52 Overseas Chapters and 33 Representative Offices across 47 countries, ICAI is uniquely positioned to make a significant impact in humanitarian efforts. In this time of heightened tension, the Institute reaffirms its steadfast commitment to national solidarity and stands ready to support the country and its people.
ICAI has a widespread presence across nearly 17,000 pin codes in India, including over 13 branches located near the India-Pakistan border. Chartered Accountants in these bordering regions are well-positioned to go beyond symbolic support by actively volunteering their time, expertise and resources to assist local communities and authorities wherever required. Through ICAI robust local networks, members and student volunteers can collaborate with government agencies, NGOs and relief organizations to deliver timely and effective aid to those in need.
Charanjot Singh Nanda, President, ICAI, lauded the heroic efforts of the Indian Armed Forces and made a clarion call to the entire CA fraternity across the nation to stand with our armed forces, he emphasized that the over 14 Lakh financial soldiers of ICAI are committed not just in words but also in meaningful action.
During his address to the CA Fraternity, he said, 'Operation 'SINDOOR' is a powerful message from a New Bharat, one that asserts there will be no compromise when it comes to protecting India's sovereignty. ICAI has always lived by the principle of 'Nation First'. In every storm that has shaken our country, we have stood strong as a pillar of support to our motherland,'.
The President further urged all ICAI members and students to rise to the occasion, remain alert and uphold the highest ideals of service by protecting the integrity and security of the nation.
'Let us come together in this critical hour. Let the CA fraternity lead by example, proving that we are not only financial stewards but also pillars of strength, compassion and resilience for our nation,' he added.

ICAI has a proud legacy of contributing to national causes and supporting citizens during times of crisis. During the 1971 Indo-Pak War, ICAI members provided pro-bono services to the families of martyrs. In the darkest days of the COVID-19 pandemic, ICAI extended support to grieving families, offered scholarships to students who lost parents and waived fees so the dreams could continue. Members of the Institute also organized food drives, blood and plasma donation camps and vaccination camps not only for our members but public at large. (ANI)

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday laid out an ambitious roadmap for India's upcoming chairmanship of the BRICS grouping, pledging to reshape the bloc's agenda with a renewed focus on resilience, innovation, and sustainability, while continuing to champion the voice of the Global South. 'Under India's BRICS Chairmanship, we will define BRICS in a new form. BRICS would mean 'Building Resilience and Innovation for Cooperation and Sustainability',' Modi said, addressing fellow leaders at the 17th BRICS meet in Brazil. He affirmed that India's leadership of the group, which includes among others Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, would build on the inclusive and people-first approach that defined its presidency of the G20 in 2023. 'Just as during our G20 Presidency, we ensured inclusivity and prioritized issues of the Global South, in the same way, during our BRICS Chairmanship, we will take this forum forward with a people-centric approach and the spirit of Humanity First,' Modi said. He stressed on future-oriented vision for BRICS anchored in multilateral reform, sustainable development, tech equity, and global cooperation. Speaking at the session on Environment, COP30, and Global Health, he emphasised that climate action for India is rooted in ancient tradition and moral obligation. 'For us, climate change is not merely an issue of energy; it is about maintaining balance between life and nature,' Modi said. Despite being the world's fastest-growing major economy, he noted, India was the first to meet its Paris climate targets ahead of schedule. However, he warned that without affordable financing and technology transfer, 'climate action will otherwise remain confined merely to climate talks.' Calling the COVID-19 pandemic a sobering reminder of shared vulnerability, he added, 'Viruses do not arrive with visas, nor are solutions chosen based on passports.' Modi urged BRICS nations to deepen cooperation on global health. On economic and institutional reform, Modi welcomed Brazil's emphasis on reworking the international financial system and stressed the need for the BRICS New Development Bank to support development through demand-driven, sustainable, and transparent financing.

India and Russia signed an agreement for the project in 2015. Later, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and Russian Helicopters formed a joint venture called Indo-Russian Helicopters Limited (IRHL) to carry it out. 'The Russians have had their own issues with their war with Ukraine and subsequent sanctions on them. They faced issues securing parts - particularly those previously sourced from Europe. Even the engine was coming from Europe. Now they are testing with their own engine,' HAL CMD DK Sunil said to Times of India, adding that HAL has been told the status of certification would be shared by the end of this year. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Sunil said the Russians had even agreed to the requirement of 70 per cent local manufacturing for the helicopters, but they needed more time. Of the planned 200 helicopters, 135 are for the Army and 65 for the Air Force. 'We've asked them for more details. Right now, things are uncertain. We'll wait to see their certification status before deciding,' Sunil said. With the joint venture still stalled, HAL is focusing more on its own helicopter projects — the Light Utility Helicopter (LUH), Light Combat Helicopter (LCH), and the upcoming Indian Multi-Role Helicopter (IMRH). Sunil said HAL's new helicopter complex in Tumakuru, Karnataka, is already producing the LUH and will gradually become the main hub for future helicopter production. 'We've built eight LUHs there so far. The LCH will also move there in phases. Eventually, our 12-tonne IMRH will be built there too,' he said. Once fully operational, the Tumakuru facility will help reduce the workload on HAL's Bengaluru helicopter division, which will continue making the Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Dhruv.
