Blink-182's Mark Hoppus claims US forces followed his advice to capture Saddam Hussein

Daily Mirror26-04-2025
The pop-punk star made a wild claim that he helped the US Army to capture Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein - but Blink 182's Mark Hoppus' story actually adds up
Blink-182 's Mark Hoppus has claimed he helped the US military to capture Saddam Hussein by coming up with a plan to track him down. The former Iraqi president was caught by coalition forces in 2003 and was convicted of crimes against humanity by the Iraqi High Tribunal, before being sentenced to death by hanging. He was executed in December 2006.
But Blink bassist Mark Hoppus claims the brutal regime was toppled after he gave the US Army admiral a few top tips on how to capture the elusive dictator. Writing in his new memoir, Fahrenheit-182, Hoppus, 53, explained how he believes he helped the military to locate Hussein, who had been in hiding.

He recalled telling the admiral: "Sir, I have a plan for how to catch Saddam Hussein." He went on to propose his idea of using drones that could broadcast ultrasonic frequencies, which couldn't be heard by humans.

Hoppus then said that the frequencies could be used to triangulate the former president's location when he released his video messages while in hiding. The musician suggested that if Hussein released a video, the time code could be captured to allow authorities to locate him.
He told the admiral: "Sir, what about having drones fly all over the region in carpeting patterns, broadcasting time codes above the level of human hearing but at the level that a video recording would catch it."
He went on: "Then, the next time he releases one of his videos, you can listen to it, pull the ultrasonic data, and triangulate the drones you have flying all over." Hoppus remembered the admiral was "genuinely taken aback" by his plan, saying he could pitch it to the Chiefs of Staff.
Hoppus wrote: "Four months later, Saddam was located and captured in Iraq. So, you're welcome everyone."
It's not the first time the bassist has referenced the bizarre exchange, having spoken to a Twitter follower about it in 2018. When asked to reveal the "least plausible story about himself that's true", Hoppus told his story to his social media followers.

He explained that while he was "on an aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf, I told a Navy Admiral on his way to meet with the Joint Chiefs of Staff my ideas on how to capture Saddam Hussein." Adding credibility to his story, Blink 182 played for US troops on the USS Nimitz in 2003.
Meanwhile, band mate Tom Delonge has also been of use to the US military, having teamed up with the Army to collaborate on the study of "exotic" metals. The guitarist's To The Stars Academy was reported to have signed a contract with the military, which committed to donating $750,000 to the organisation's research for a five-year collaboration.

The contract states: "Government shall: Perform assessments, testing, and characterization of Collaborator-provided technologies. The Government is interested in a variety of the Collaborator's technologies, such as, but not limited to inertial mass reduction, mechanical/structural meta materials, electromagnetic meta material wave guides, quantum physics, quantum communications, and beamed energy propulsion."
Kari DeLonge, TTSA chief content officer and Tom's sister, told Vice: "TTSA has acquired material from various sources and does not comment on the specifics of each sample."

Coronation Street fans left fuming after Kevin Webster's 'sickening' scene

Coronation Street fans were left fuming with Kevin Webster during tonight's episode - as it was revealed he was lying to his family about still having cancer Kevin Webster was seen telling a huge lie about his testicular cancer in tonight's Coronation Street - and fans were fuming with his behaviour. It's been a tough year for the Websters, but it looked like things had taken a positive turn when it was revealed in tonight's episode that he'd been given the all clear. However, it seems like he's keeping the good news to himself... ‌ Earlier in the episode, Kevin was seen heading to his appointment alone, as Abi was forced to attend a breakdown call. Abi was later left fuming when she realised Carl Webster could have attended the breakdown, meaning she'd completely missed Kev's "life-changing" consultation. ‌ Following his appointment, Kevin and Abi headed to Speed Daal for a date night, and it was there that we learnt that Kevin had been given the all clear. As Abi headed to the bathroom, Kevin was approached by Dr. Gaddas, who congratulated him on getting the all clear. As he thanked her, Kevin then asked if she could just keep it between them, as he hasn't yet told his family. "Of course not, I wouldn't break patient confidentiality," she said. Despite Kevin telling the doctor he'd be telling his family about the all clear, it doesn't look like he's planning on doing it anytime soon. "What was that about?" Abi asked as she returned from the bathroom. Fans of course, expected him to tell Abi the good news, but instead he let her believe he still has the illness. "She was just saying how sorry she was," Kevin told Abi, as she was seen getting emotional during his 'sick lie'. ‌ "Kev, what ever lies ahead, I'm here," an emotional Abi said, as the two expressed their love for one another. But how long will Kevin keep the lie up? Fans were disgusted with the character, as they took to X, formerly known as Twitter to share their disappointment. "kevin webster is on my hit list omg I HATE HIM!! #Corrie," exclaimed one. Another angry fan tweeted: "Woahhhhhh... not Kev lying, because he knows Abi will leave him if he is in the all clear. How MAD!" ‌ A third exclaimed: "Kev showing his true colours! How could he stoop so low?!" as a fourth said: "Sickening behaviour from Kev!" Kevin's lie comes after he continues to grow suspicious of his brother Carl and Abi's actions. Earlier in the week, Kevin picked up Abi's phone and spotted a flirtatious message that Carl had recently sent. However, spoilers from next week reveal that Kevin's lie is set to be exposed as he admits to his brother Carl that he's got the all clear and needs no more cancer treatment, despite his wife Abi Franklin being under the impression he needs more chemotherapy. Soon enough, Kevin makes up to his sister Debbie and pal Tyrone that his cancer is unresponsive and he has to have further treatment. But feeling the pressure of his lies, he admits to Tyrone that he lied and his cancer has gone.

Former This Morning presenter 'dumped' by ITV after wild conspiracy rant left her cancelled

Emma Kenny was a regular presenting on This Morning before she was 'cancelled' for her outspoke views on the covid-19 pandemic - leaving her stuck for money and nearly losing her house. Emma Kenny, a former presenter on This Morning, took a new direction in her career after being 'cancelled' during the Covid-19 pandemic. Earlier this week, she made headlines by revealing the birth of her fourth child at the age 52. Emma, a television psychologist, is already a mother to Tyde, 22, Evan, 20, and nearly two-year-old Etta Blue. ‌ She and her 34-year-old husband, Pete, have welcomed their newborn daughter. Emma shared a series of heartfelt Instagram posts announcing the arrival of baby Ella-Grey, writing: "Say hi Ella-Grey And then we were six! ‌ "Say hello Ella-Grey! This morning she entered the world with a very loud cry. The Royal Bolton hospital have been fantastic and ensured that we have both been looked after brilliantly." The arrival of Emma's baby comes after a challenging period in both her personal and professional life, the Mirror reports. Just a few weeks before giving birth, she experienced the sudden loss of her mum. Opening up about her grief, she stated: "I lost my mum suddenly a couple of weeks back, and it's really strange knowing that neither of my babies will get to know their grandparents…..they would have loved them as older my boys did before them." Years earlier, Emma claims she lost her presenting role on This Morning due to her controversial views on coronavirus. She revealed the fallout left her financially struggling, nearly costing her home as work dried up during lockdown. The mum-of-four posted a series of anti-lockdown tweets on X, formerly Twitter. Around that time, reports surfaced suggesting that ITV bosses were unhappy with her actions - claims that were denied at the time. ‌ Emma sparked controversy after publicly stating she would ignore government guidelines and advice on coronavirus safety in the lead-up to Christmas. She was slammed for tweeting: "I'm going to have parties, see my friends, invite EVERYONE around!" "I'm going to visit elderly neighbours and take cake. I'm not wearing a mask and I'm going to do what as a human I was born to do… socialise." ‌ Although the tweets were deleted, the TV personality was met with furious backlash. A source told the Mail on Sunday: "Those at the top put up with it for a few months but it got to the point where the backlash was too much." Addressing rumours about her absence from the daytime show, Emma shared on Twitter that she had recently signed a new contract with ITV. She told her followers: "Just to make it clear I've just signed a new contract with This Morning and count the staff and many presenters as friends. Thanks for the messages of support. Xxxxxx." And a spokesperson for This Morning revealed: "Emma Kenny is one of a host of expert contributors we continue to feature on the show." ‌ However, in a later interview with Johnny Seifert on the Secure The Insecure podcast, Emma revealed that she faced financial difficulties after being let go and even consulted a crisis manager. She said: "I was cancelled. So it wasn't a thing of, 'I might be.' It happened. And it's the reality of working in a field where there is a safe space that you are allowed to remain in. And if you step outside of that, there are consequences." The ordeal came at the worst time as her father had died by suicide just days earlier. Despite this, she returned to work as a freelancer six days later but soon after her contracts were getting cancelled after she spoke out. ‌ She continued: "I was also managing some of my family's struggles because people in my family just couldn't go back to work. I was helping manage that on a financial level. So there were all these things that were happening around me. And then COVID hit. "When I started to speak out, it was really difficult because I started to get all my contracts cancelled. And then my husband, who is a very lovely man, he also knew that I was the person that really brings the income in." "He works with me and he's amazing. Without him, I couldn't do what I do, but the point is it was me challenging our economic standard and I challenged it to the point where we nearly lost our home." ‌ Emma was advised by a PR consultant to issue an apology for her remarks, but she refused. Emma concluded: "I was told by a crisis manager to do things like take the vaccine live on TV. And I basically said that the consequence of that for me would be the end of my mental health. And also the end of my credibility as a human being for myself." Not everything was lost, as Emma shifted her focus to narrating true crime stories and launching her own YouTube channel, Emma Kenny True Crime. In a new post she opened up, revealing that she didn't think she could find happiness again after her father's tragic death. ‌ "When my dad took his life in 2019, I never thought I would be happy again, but in truth I couldn't have been more wrong, I've learnt we are more than simply built to withstand suffering, we are programmed to learn, and grow, and develop courage through it. I cannot change what happened but I can embrace the gifts that grief brought me," she wrote. Closing her post, she expressed her gratitude to everyone who supported her during the difficult times. She said: "Thank you to all of you who have spent years supporting me. You stood beside me in the dark times and you gave me so many new career directions that these days I don't need invites off the MSM! Thank you, all of you, for so much more than you could possibly know xxx." Emma kept her fourth pregnancy private until announcing it last week, sharing a mirror selfie showing her baby bump and telling her fans: "Last show before I give birth! 9 months pregnant, quite happy to go into labour on stage….so any of you with health care qualifications at my Killer Couples, Liverpool Empire show tonight please be prepared!" "Back on stage in September…..but for now it's time for baby, 2 year old, filming YouTube and Facebook and going on a road trip to Italy the minute this babies fast track passport arrives! X," she continued.
