She gave him Rs 45,000 when he was in need—He came back to kill: How garment shop helper butchered employer, son in Delhi's Lajpat Nagar home

NEW DELHI: A woman and her 14-year-old son were murdered at their south Delhi home on Wednesday evening, allegedly by a man who had taken a Rs 45,000 advance from her and stopped returning calls after falling out over repayment, police said. The suspect, identified as Mukesh, was arrested hours later by police in Uttar Pradesh while trying to flee by train. Police believe Ruchika Sewani, 40, and her son Krish were killed with a sharp object after she confronted the accused over the money. But Mukesh allegedly stopped reporting to work and avoided her calls. 'He agreed to return the money and a phone, but flew into a rage after being scolded by a woman,' a senior officer said, citing Mukesh's initial statement. The killings were discovered late on Wednesday night after repeated calls by Kuldeep to his wife went unanswered. He then sent a staffer from his shop to check on the family. The worker found bloodstains near the gate and called Kuldeep, who alerted police. Police broke open the gate to the ground-floor flat and found Ruchika dead in one room and her son in the bathroom, both with deep neck injuries. Neighbours said they had heard no noise due to the air conditioning running in the house. CCTV footage showed the accused leaving the building soon after the time of the killings, which reportedly took place between 7 and 7:30pm, shortly after Ruchika returned home from the shop. Her son is believed to have come in from cricket coaching minutes later and tried to intervene, but was also attacked and chased into the bathroom. An inter-state alert was issued for the suspect and he was caught at Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction railway station in Uttar Pradesh. Police are still looking for the murder weapon and are investigating whether the suspect had tampered with CCTV equipment before entering the home. A case of murder has been registered.

With today's rally, the stock price of CreditAccess Grameen has recovered 81 per cent from its 52-week low of ₹750.05 touched on January 27, 2025. It had hit a 52-week high of ₹1,369.25 on July 4, 2024. At 10:14 AM; the stock was trading 7 per cent higher at ₹1,329.60, as compared to 0.01 per cent rise in the BSE Sensex. The average trading volumes at the counter jumped nearly 10-fold, with a combined 3.82 million shares changing hands on the NSE and BSE. CreditAccess Grameen Q1FY26 update CreditAccess Grameen has reported a marginal 0.4 per cent quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) rise in gross loan portfolio (GLP) to ₹26,055 crore in the June 2025 quarter (Q1FY26), reflecting modest growth post write-offs of ₹693 crore. The microfinance institutions (MFI) had posted GLP of ₹25,948 crore in Q4FY25. Karnataka GLP increased slightly to ₹8,104 crore (vs. ₹8,068 crore in Q4), while other states' GLP rose to ₹17,951 crore (vs. ₹17,879 crore). Portfolio at Risk metrics showed improvement: overall PAR 0+ declined to 5.9 per cent (vs. 6.9 per cent in Q4), with PAR 0+ excluding Karnataka dropping to 4.4 per cent (vs. 6.1 per cent). The company added ~2 lakh new borrowers during the quarter supporting continued business momentum. CreditAccess Grameen said the Q1FY26 sets a new benchmark, driven by highest first quarter disbursement and strong business momentum. The company delivered a healthy QoQ growth of 3.1 per cent (pre write-off basis) while fully adhering with MFIN Guardrails. Considering the evolving business environment, the management in May month said that they are aiming for asset under management (AUM) growth of 14-18 per cent of which MFI growth will be 8-12 per cent and the balance from retail finance, NIM of 12.6-12.8 per cent, credit cost of 5.5-6.0 per cent, ROA of 2.9-3.4 per cent and ROE of 11.8-13.3 per cent in FY26. Brokerages view on CreditAccess Grameen Improving asset quality and gradual stabilization in performance post accelerated write-offs; sustained improvement in collection efficiency indicates gradual recovery. However, higher exposure in Karnataka amid concerns on collections remains watchful, ICICI Securities said in a note. A trend reversal is on the horizon in the MFI sector and is expected to play out over the next couple of quarters, with the sector likely nearing normalization by H2FY26. That said, Motilal Oswal Financial Services strongly believes that the upcoming three months present an opportunity to separate high-quality franchises from weaker ones, with performance divergence across the MFI sector expected to be increasingly evident. Backed by a strong capital position (Tier-1 of ~24 per cent), CreditAccess Grameen is well-placed to embark on a healthy loan growth trajectory as delinquency trends show further signs of normalization. CreditAccess Grameen trades at 2.0x FY27E P/BV, and its premium valuation over MFI peers is likely to sustain, driven by stronger confidence in its ability to return to normalcy ahead of its peers, the brokerage firm said. Nuvama, Angle One, BSE slide up to 7% after Sebi ban on Jane Street

Shares of India's capital market stocks took a hit on Friday after the market regulator barred US-based quant firm Jane Street from accessing the domestic securities market for allegedly manipulating the markets. To be sure, the direct impact was felt by Jane Street's local trading partner, Nuvama Wealth Management Ltd., whose shares plunged as much as 6.7 per cent, the worst since May 5 this year. Other stocks that saw a sentimental impact were BSE and Angel One, although different triggers also impacted the stocks. BSE's counter fell as much as 6.1 per cent, while Angel One's scrip plunged 7.3 per cent on Friday. Shares of listed depository CDSL fell over 2 per cent during the session. Sebi bans Jane Street after alleged illegal gain The Securities and Exchange Board of India barred Jane Street from accessing the domestic securities market for allegedly manipulating the markets. In an interim order, Sebi has also directed the high-frequency trading outfit to disgorge ₹4,844 crore made 'unlawfully'. Jane Street's modus operandi included building aggressive positions in the options segment and then influencing the price in the underlying stock market, where volumes tend to be relatively low, according to Sebi. The Sebi investigation found that Jane Street accounted for a significant portion of the net buying in the 12 Bank Nifty component stocks and their futures. The 'burst of buying' was intended to influence the price of these securities, which in turn allowed the firm to put on significantly larger and profitable positions in the highly liquid index options segment. As per the Sebi order, between January 2023 and March 2025, Jane Street earned ₹44,358 crore in options, lost ₹7,208 crore in stock futures, lost ₹191 crore in index futures, and another ₹288 crore in cash, pocketing an overall gain of ₹36,671 crore during this period. Angel One F&O option premium turnover falls Angel One reported a year-on-year decline in its futures and options (F&O) segment based on option premium turnover for the quarter ended June 2025 (Q1 FY26). The F&O option premium turnover fell 17.8 per cent to ₹13,500 crore, compared to ₹16,400 crore in the same period last year (Q1 FY25). The decline highlights moderation in the derivatives volumes after Sebi's action to curb retail frenzy. However, overall option premium turnover, which includes all segments, rose 40.0 per cent year-on-year (Y-o-Y) to ₹1,048 crore, reflecting increased interest in non-F&O segments and broader market hedging. Angel One also saw a notable slowdown in trading activity during the June 2025 quarter (Q1 FY26), as key operational metrics declined year-on-year. The total number of orders executed on the platform fell 25.8 per cent to 343.11 million, while the average daily orders dropped 27.0 per cent to 5.62 million. Additionally, gross client acquisition declined sharply by 40 per cent Y-o-Y, with the company adding 1.45 million new clients during the quarter.
