New Delhi: Industries and infrastructure development minister MB Patil Thursday pressed union civil aviation minister K Ramamohan Naidu to fast-track key aviation projects in the state, including finalising the location for Bengaluru's proposed second international airport.
"Once finalised, this would enable the state govt to proceed with follow-up works," Patil said.
He also sought central clearance for the inauguration of the Vijayapura airport, which is ready to launch pending the environment ministry's nod.

Emphasising the potential of north Karnataka for investments, Patil sought international status for Hubballi and Belagavi airports.
Both airports now have passenger terminals with capacities of 2,400 passengers per hour and feature night-landing and cargo terminals.
Upgrading them would "boost connectivity for north Karnataka, south Maharashtra and Goa," he said.
During the meeting, airport development in Mysuru, Shivamogga, Hassan, Karwar, and Raichur also came up for discussion.
Patil urged the Centre to grant Karnataka stakeholder status in the airport monetisation programme. "Despite Karnataka's key role… it has not been granted stakeholder status," he said, citing Rs 319 crore for Mysuru runway expansion, Rs 450 crore for land at Hubballi, and full funding of Kalaburagi airport.

MGNREGS: Central teams find ‘financial misappropriation', ‘procedural gaps' in several states

Central teams, during their special visits to monitor the functioning of the Mahatma Gandhi National Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) in 23 states in the 2025-26 financial year, found financial misappropriation and procedural gaps in several states. The anomalies ranged from 'work not found or not commensurate with the expenditure' to 'use of labour displacing machinery' to 'bypassing' of National Mobile Monitoring System (NMMS), an initiative to record workers' attendance digitally, The Indian Express has learnt. It is learnt that the Ministry of Rural Development, the nodal ministry for the MGNREGS, flagged the issue during the first Performance Review Committee (PRC) meeting for the financial year 2025-26, which was held on July 14 and 15. The meeting was attended by top Central and state government officials. The ministry has shared the findings with the states concerned, but over half of them have not sent any reply or action taken report (ATRs) to the Centre on the findings, said a source. The states were Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, said a source, adding that 48 Central teams visited 21 districts across these states. During the review meeting, the ministry also shared major findings with them. The findings were grouped in three categories: financial misappropriation, procedural gaps, and lack of good governance initiatives in the implementation of the MGNREGS. In the financial misappropriation category, the major findings were 'work not found or not commensurate with the expenditure' and 'taking up non-permissible works/activities'. Besides, procedural gaps, including violation of procurement procedure, use of labour-displacing machinery, and bypassing of the National Mobile Monitoring System (NMMS) — a digital initiative introduced for recording attendance of MGNREGS workers– were also noted. The findings are significant given the steps taken by the Centre to bring transparency and efficiency in the implementation of the MG-NREGS. The ministry had made attendance through the NMMS mandatory with effect from January 1, 2023. Apart from marking of attendance through the NMMS, two time-stamped and geotagged photographs of the workers in a day are also required to be uploaded on the scheme's portal. By invoking Section 27 of the MGNREGA, 2005, the Centre had stopped the release of funds to West Bengal with effect from March 9, 2022, 'due to non-compliance of directives of the Central Government.' Since then, no work under the NREGS has taken place in the state. The MGNREGS was launched in 200 most backward rural districts of the country in 2006-07 and was extended to an additional 130 districts during 2007-08; and to the entire country from the financial year 2008-09. The scheme saw a spike in demand for work during 2020-21 when a record 7.55-crore rural families availed the scheme in the wake of Covid-19 outbreak. The scheme became a safety net for migrants who returned to their villages during the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020. Since then, the number of families working under the MGNREGS has gradually come down — 7.25 crore in 2021-22, 6.18 crore in 2022-23, 5.99 crore in 2023-24 and 5.79 crore in 2024-25. The last three financial years (2022-23 to 2024-25) do not include MGNREGS beneficiary figures for West Bengal, where the scheme has been suspended since March 2022). India key driver of future growth for Nestle: Suresh Narayanan

New Delhi, Jul 27 (PTI) India will be a 'key driver of growth for the future' for Nestle which has 'faith" in the market that offers a 'large consumption basket', according to Suresh Narayanan, the outgoing Chairman & Managing Director of its Indian arm. The economic and political stability offered by India coupled with 'high consumer resonance' of the company's brands make it an attractive market, he told PTI in an interview. The Swiss FMCG major, which had faced an existential crisis with the Maggi fiasco in 2015, has long left behind the chapter and is investing to enhance capacity, product innovations, expansion of sales network to digitisation for having a 'value added journey", said Narayanan who will be retiring by end of July. 'I can foresee that even if I am not there at the helm, but the market attraction, the levels of investment and the future of Nestle will continue to be bright in this country," he said when asked how he saw Nestle in the next five years in India. Elaborating, he said, 'I think we will then become a much larger entity, a much more robust entity in terms of products that we have, a much more deeper entity in terms of the geographies and the manufacturing presence that we have, and overall, a much more impactful company than even what we are today. So by 2030 I think we will have a double-digit growth." Nestle India's compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) for the last 10 years has been about 10 to 11 per cent, and despite the current patch, which has not been good, particularly for most consumer goods companies in India due to consumption slow down in the urban market, Narayanan said, adding he expects to get back to double-digit growth path. 'Consumption will come back in this country and I think we will get back to the double-digit growth," he said. Asked if he saw India becoming among the top five global markets of the Swiss FMCG giant Nestle SA in the coming years, Narayanan said, 'India (market) is very well placed. India has had a very good track record." In the last 10 years, investment by Nestle India has gone up from about 2 per cent of sales to about 10 per cent of sales. 'So it's been almost dramatic. Almost Rs 6,000 crore to Rs 6,500 crore is the amount of money that we have invested in creating new capacities," he said. This investment is because of two factors – the performance of the Indian market and, more importantly, the 'faith in India" market of Nestle, he added. India offers a large consumption basket with economic and political stability, and the relative stature of the company is high in the country, he said, adding, 'the consumer resonance is high for our brands and therefore, we look at India as a very promising market". He expects Nestle India to be a 'more robust entity" in terms of its geographies and manufacturing presence, regaining its double-digit growth journey with a revival in the consumption cycle. When asked about the next phase of Nestle's growth in India, Narayanan said it will look to accelerate its penetration-led volume growth journey, which has yielded positive results for the company over the last decade. He expects Nestle India, which is now an over Rs 20,000 crore (nearly USD 2.5 billion) entity, to 'become a much larger entity, a much more robust entity in terms of products that we have, a much deeper entity in terms of the geographies and the manufacturing presence" in the next five years by 2030. India is among the top ten global markets for the Vevey (Switzerland)-based company. It is a globally leading market for food brand Maggi and the second largest for its confectionery brand KITKAT According to Narayanan, Nestle's 'thinking globally and acting locally" policy helps to customise offerings and to customise products to the local context. 'A lot of investments are guided by three things, opportunity, salience and future growth and returns that you can get all these three, I think India satisfies the checklist extremely well. So that's why I have the confidence that India can continue to be like it is for many, for some companies, can be a key, key driver of growth for the future," he said. Nestle India, which has been present in India for over a century, is now setting up its tenth factory, which is coming at Odisha. Narayanan expects it to be operational in next couple of years. About the next phase of Nestle's growth in India, Narayanan said it will look at accelerating its penetration-led volume growth journey which has given positive results to the company in the last decade. Nestle under its 'Rurban strategy" will continue to expand its presence in the small rural markets, as rural India is opening up. Nestle India is creating infrastructure for the portfolio in order to increase the penetration of its brands. Besides, Nestle India is also increasing its play in the premium segment, which is having fast growth after the pandemic, with shift in consumer purchase behaviour towards more value-based products. 'Premium products, which have been growing at about 16 per cent for us in the last 10 years, will continue to accelerate. Therefore, whether it is Nespresso or Nescafe Gold or premium chocolates or premium food items or premium nutrition items, these will get accelerated in the country," he said. Nestle will also amplify its activity in the digital and analytics side, which will take a 'quantum leap". 'We have already made progress, but I think there is a lot more that can be done in this field. The company is preparing itself for it," said Narayanan. Moreover, Nestle will continue to pursue innovation-led growth, which was paced up by the company after the Maggi crisis, which happened a decade ago. 'Innovation, which is today at about 7 per cent (of sales), we hope will reach about 10 per cent of sales," he said. ‘India's Poorest Man': MP Farmer Listed With Rs 3 Annual Income, Administration Says Error Fixed

A viral certificate showed Madhya Pradesh farmer Ramswaroop's annual income as Rs 3. Authorities clarified it was a clerical error; the corrected certificate reports Rs 30,000. A clerical error in Madhya Pradesh's Satna district went viral this week after a local farmer was issued an income certificate showing an annual income of mere Rs 3. The document, bearing the tehsildar's official stamp and signature has become the headline point among the netizens with the Internet dubbing him as the "poorest man in India". As the certificate went viral, authorities quickly scrambled to clarify that it was a 'clerical error," and went on to issue a new certificate, increasing the original income, reported PTI news agency. A photograph of the income certificate issued to Ramswaroop (45), a resident of Nayagaon village under Kothi tehsil of Satna district, complete with the tehsildar's signature, surfaced on social media this week. The document, issued with the signature of the tehsildar, Saurabh Dwivedi, implied that Ramswaroop earned 25 paise a month. As the pictures of the document went viral, officials came into action and by July 25, a new certificate was issued, reporting that the farmer's annual income is Rs 30,000, which is Rs 2,500 per month. आवेदक की स्व-घोषणा के अनुसार आय प्रमाण जारी करने में लिपिकीय त्रुटि हुई थी। जिसे तत्काल सुधार कर (निरस्त कर) नया आय प्रमाण पत्र जारी कर दिया गया है। #JansamparkMP @CMMadhyaPradesh #सतना — Collector Satna (@Collector_Satna) July 27, 2025 'It was a clerical error, which has been corrected. A new income certificate has been issued," Dwivedi clarified as reported by the news agency. Congress Takes A Jibe Meanwhile, the Madhya Pradesh Congress took to social media to slam the government for creating such a blunder. They shared a post along with the photo of the original certificate, saying that the government is on a mission to make people poor. 'In MP Chief Minister Mohan Yadav's rule, we discovered India's poorest man! Annual income: just Rs 3!" the party claimed in its post. 'Isn't it shocking? A mission to make people poor? Because now the chair itself eats the commission," it alleged. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
